Kaori walked into the dorm silently, and sat down on a black chair and pulled out a black case from under the chair. She flipped two silver switches and opened the case dramatically. She pulled out a Wednesday-themed Violin and a black bow. Pulling out rosin, and rosin-ing the bow, she slowly tuned the violin.

She tuned the violin for a couple minutes, until she was sure that the violin was in tune. She slowly lifted her arm, holding the bow, over the strings, and played a single note. Then another. A string of notes started blending in, making a song. A ballad, hymn, a song in that style. Slow and dark, dramatic and mysterious. A song that Wednesday Addams would approve of.

The song went on for a couple minutes, and during those couple minutes, the other houses were having their fancy inspirational speeches, and which one had a couple grammar mistakes. But this song, ballad, hymn, whatever, it would be the replacement of an inspirational speech, as they were all aspiring musicians, whom all understood the musical language of drama. The song wove its way into the musical part of their brain, where they learned of the darkness and tragedy of life.

When Kaori finished the song, the room went silent. ~~Totally not because nobody was there.~~ Kaori packed up the violin and walked outside, and went underneath a large tree. She bent over and started counting the blades of grass, one by one. As a way of 'rejuvenation' from playing a not-as-dark song.

Kaori noticed that there was now another new record for the fastest time in ending the sorting process, and that record was previously held by the famous Jackery Soot, now an eighth year and the best magical duelist. 'But now', Kaori thought, 'She has a challenger. A rival, or an equal...' Her thoughts trailed off when the sorting was over, announced over, in fact.

Kaori turned away from the glass and walked over to an empty table in the corner, and merely started counting her fingers over and over again. She counted her fingers whenever there was nothing for her to do, which was around 90% of the time. So she couldn't count it as a nervous habit, unless she was triggered, again, by the small details people overlooked.

Kaori kept counting her fingers. 'Ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine, one hundred... One, two, three...' It was a habit. Once she reached one hundred, she would restart. That way, she could go as long as she wants.

Kaori watched silently through the glass, at the little level ones squirming in the maze. Her back was turned away from everyone, so that they couldn't see that she was twisting her fingers in one direction. A couple small flower petals slowly appeared in her palm, and she blew them into the room, where the petals flitted around, fixing up slight mistakes in the making of the shadows, until Kaori was 'pleased' with the orderliness and properness of the shadows.

Pleasure was never an emotion Kaori had felt. Her entire life was misery, sadness, loneliness, all of the above. Just an empty world, with no emotions, and no pleasure. Just black. No white. No gray. Everything was the same blandness, except for those small outliers in the straight stream of order. Those small little differences were everywhere. And Kaori's need and longing to fix them only got worse, and then one day, she found out the truth, the reason why her life was so... empty. Her father. A good-for-nothing, useless, and cruel man. Who left her and her mother to survive alone. To find a way out of their mess of a life by themselves...

Lost in her memories, Kaori no longer payed attention to the selection process, but she snapped out of her trance when a small ball of light in her peripheral vision caught her eye. She turned towards the light, which seemed to have come from one of the level ones. A female, going around and freeing the others. 'Well, this is different...' Kaori thought as she focused her attention on the girl...

Her 'art' is performed through playing her violin. Whenever she is around, the shadows are too. And when they hear her music, they transform into mythical and dangerous beasts. ~~Luckily she is able to control them... but only for now...~~ When she has trouble controlling them, she either a) stops playing, or b) puts on a special necklace that completely drains her powers temporarily.

Kaori has a pale face and an empty face. She shows no expression or emotion, and seems to only feel one emotion: emptiness. Her black hair is a little messy and long, and her purple eyes are slightly dull. Kaori seems as if her head is always in the clouds, yet she seems to show no emotion, and her blank stare seems as if she is staring into your soul... But her stare is important, as it greatly enhances her eyesight, and makes her able to see things that many others can't.

Kaori is mute, and very shy. She prefers to not say a word or make a sound, and seems to be constantly stressed about something. She is diagnosed with OCD, social anxiety, and is an extreme perfectionist, but she is able to control her nervous habits. She is emotionless, and shows no emotion, and rarely feels emotion. She feels only emptiness, and has never shown an ounce of emotion in her life... But she is very intelligent, and just has a very awkward time relaying it. She is also rather gentle- when she isn't busy stressing over tiny things. Kaori also has a slight ~~hatred~~ disliking of men, after a moment in her past, involving men, had ruined her life forever.

~✿ Backstory: ✿~
Kaori came from a very poor family who was stuck in paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Her parents were always working random jobs, trying to pay off the debt. But since her parents had not gotten degrees or such, they were unable to find stable jobs with good pay. And the once-in-a-lifetime chance of getting a good job was ruined when her parents had been fired within an hour. And because of this, her parents cared a lot about Kaori's education and got even more in debt to pay for Kaori's school lessons. In fact, the total amount of debt that needed to be paid off was well over three hundred thousand dollars.

Due to this, Kaori left school on her own and tried to find work to help her parents by the age of 9. She tried many different jobs, and finally, when she got denied entry because of her age, she went to her last resort: to work as an assistant janitor for the school she used to attend. The job was difficult and rather unsanitary, but Kaori got paid, so she stuck with it. Until a couple of months after she got the job. Due to the unsanitary and rather dirty conditions of her job, she grew sick easily, and her mother forced her to resign from the job.

And soon after Kaori resigned from her 'job', her father lost hold of himself and started beating Kaori, agitated that she decided to quit the one job she had that paid her. After a while of this, Kaori's dad understood that Kaori wasn't going to go back to the job. And that infuriated him even more. He started having large fits of anger, beating Kaori and her mother, and even became known as the 'madman' of the Kim family. Soon, both of Kaori's parents lost their jobs and they were also evicted from their small apartment. Her father's madness grew worse and he turned to alcohol, which left him having even worse control over his temper and is fists. He started beating both his daughter and his wife, and eventually, his madness practically became him, and all he did, day by day, was drink and beat his family. Eventually, he lost grasp of life and commited the thing, leaving the debts to fall to Kaori's mom, who was dangerously ill. The stress completely overtook Kaori's mother, and her mother completely gave in, and lost grasp of living (AKA commited the un-alive). Kaori was extremely upset, and due to that, she almost committed the un-alive, too, but she didn't, as the debt still needed to be paid off. So she decided to work as many jobs as possible, gain enough money, and finally pay off the debt that started her entire life of misery. But by then, she lost hold of her emotions and ability to speak...

Shaking. Even more shaking. Then a sigh of frustration comes out, and two arms yank the blanket off the bed, revealing a skinny and pale girl lying in the bed, awake. A yelp of surprise echoes around the house, and two adults rush into the bedroom, with alarmed looks on their faces. But those alarmed faces slowly morph into relieved ones, then once again to those 'not again' faces that have no word that I know of using. The man speaks up, "Kaori... not again. When you are awake, come out of bed. Don't lie in bed and scare your sister... you know how much it scares her... And besides. Today's the day of the Reaping. There's a chance your sister might get chosen to be a tribute!" Kaori stares blankly at the man and points upwards, towards a slight red smear among the old wood on the ceiling. Kaori is fidgeting with her fingers, obviously triggered. Her parents sighed and left the room, leaving Kaori to get ready for the Reaping. Which meant to lie in bed until they had to leave.

Just thirty minutes later, the family were in the square, watching as a lady pulled out a slip of paper from a glass bowl. The audience quickly silenced as they listened for a name, any name, the name of the unlucky person who would have to participate in this year's Hunger Games, different from all the others.

The citizens held their breath as the lady slowly opened up the slip of paper, and held the paper out for everybody to see. Holding the mic close to her face, the lady called out the unlucky person's name. And that unlucky person happened to be Kaori's little sister, whose mouth was wide open in shock. Tears fell as she slowly went towards the stage, but an arm held her back. Kaori. Kaori pushed her sister back to their parents, who were sobbing quietly, and walked towards the stage wordlessly. The crowd parted, and made a path for her, a path that led all the way up to the stage, where the lady was smiling down at her. Whispers were everywhere. People were trying to understand why Kaori, the emotionless girl, was volunteering for her sister. They all wanted to know. But they went silent when Kaori reached the stage.

After a moment of silence, the lady held her mic up to Kaori and asked eagerly, "What is your name, little girl?". The entire crowd sighed. Everybody knew that Kaori never spoke, and for all they knew, she hadn't said a word her entire life. And just like they expected, Kaori said nothing. The lady tapped her foot impatiently, and asked again "What is your name?", and held the mic closer to Kaori, trying to force words out of her.

One of the citizens of District 11 ran up to the lady and whispered in her ear, "Her name is Kaori. Kaori Kim. And she doesn't say a word. Don't expect her to. She won't." Hearing this, the lady sighed and faced the audience once again. She spoke loudly, "We have a tribute! Kaori Kim, District 11, Team BLUE!"
