So as a fairly new player I've started to collect all old event Pokémon. I've gotten most by buying from other players via the auction house. But recently I've only seen absurdly high priced old event Pokémon on there.
I know they are available in the event shop, but they can only be bought with nuggets, and the market price of them is also insane at this moment. (Technically event points but those are rare to get on its own so really buying them with Nuggets is the only reliable way). So without spending actual, real life money, it would be hard to get certain event Pokémon right now.

This is where my question comes in. Will all old event Pokémon make their return somehow, eventually? Notably I'm asking for Santa Birb, which is the Ditto April Fools event of years ago. Since I don't think April Fools jokes are repeated per year, I am worried I'll never find this fella for an acceptable price.

Save for some event pkmns, many of the event pokemons here are not tied to a specific holiday; so there are really no reasons for them to be redistributed. This is since we already have a method to get them (event shop as u said or by breeding - though there are some that can't be bred). Hence, it would be wise to save ur event points for those pkmn that cannot be bred.

However, I do like the idea of an annual event where we are able to encounter them again (and maybe for an increase shiny chance).

For those event pokemons that cannot be bred nor be able to obtain though the event shop, they will return again as confirmed by Riako here (though i wish this would also apply to those mons that can also be bred. Im looking at u dhelmise).
