"A story of two? Well, kind of, my mother's... well, everyone views her as a saint but she is far from that." Iteral replied, finally taking out the bread from the oven completely and smelling it. "Mmmmh, so fresh... now how do I get it all upstairs..."

"Dumbwaiter," Jack said pointing languidly. "Your answers are very political, but we are on the high seas. You only need politics when dealing with the tedious landers and their nations. Just say whatchu mean to say, chef." Captain Jack had three loves: dueling, food, and secrets.

Iteral looks a little dumbfounded at the bluntness of the captain. Admirable... somewhat annoying in the long term but still. "Right. Well, if you wanna know... I'll tell you while I sear." The witch started handling fish, with one hand always having a pan in the hand while the other had a pair of clamps. Though if Jack attempts to steal food, she'd snap with the clamps closer to their nose.

"I am, technically speaking, a demi god. My mother, well, biological I must add, is the goddess of the stars and earth from where I come from. But... well, she is a hypocrite, to be honest. Loves everyone and cares for everyone but she picks favorites every time and ignores the rest. So, in the sea of adopted children and recruited units, the fact that she ignores her actual daughter the least is... not good, not good at all. Coupled with her main character syndrome, constant secrecy for the most important of details and pretentious attitude, I long for my mother back in Rome. And then she does things like stabbing herself just because she was proven incorrect. I hate sounding cliché but the one about gods always being [REDACTED]? Yeah, she fits the bill and leaves a tip." A short pause. She needed to calm down a bit, so she went to flip some fishes again.

"The cooking you see here, right?" She holds a piece of hot and seared fish in front of Captain Jack. "That goddess never appreciated. Barely ate. Same with her favorites. But I enjoy it. And the fact that you're fond of it... kind of warms my heart."

"Well, this crew hasn't had anything decent to eat since Chef Salcedo left, so of course we'd eat it. And it's absolutely amaaaazing, so you have nothing to worry about."

Jack sighed, reflecting on parents and other philosophical family figures.

"I never had any parents. Most of the crew doesn't have any either, and those that do would rather forget them. We were a children's ship... started young and sailed together awhile. You'll find no love lost for authority here. You're in great company now!" She had a knack for seeing the positive in things. Jack wanted her ship to be a happy one.

Iteral smiles a little. "Well, then me having two sets of parents, one dead and one disliked, should give me an advantage, right?" She takes a little plate and takes the smallest fish she finished, pours a yellow sauce on it and hands it over to Jack. "Here's a little... teaser. Don't worry, it's finished soon."

Jack snatched the food faster than the human eye could catch, and snarfed the yellow sauce fish. A maniacal grin split across her face. "Chef Iteral, dear, we are going to get along famously. Absolutely divine, love."

The Captain straightened her hat, fluffing the white feather that stuck straight into the air. Moon could handle the upper deck, right? She could totally stay in the kitchen longer.

Somewhere abovedecks, a golden-haired navigator rolled her eyes. Her Captain was an absolute child.

Iteral nods and looks at her own attire. "Wish I'd have time to prepare... still got my old buccaneer outfit back home." She laughs a bit and keeps cooking, occasionally checking her belt, before seeing her wand on the nearby kitchenette. She wasn't used walking around without it.

"You're too sweet, capitano. I'm just enjoying my craft after being outshined by peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by a goddess. They weren't even cut right." She laughs a bit and points behind Jack. "Mind handing me the spice behind you real quick?"

She lifted the iar to the light, dusting off the seal. "Or-eg-ah-no..." She said, before passing it to her new chef. "Sounds like something the witches of Wilderlore would use to boil children."

To stave off the look of incredulity most newcomers gave her at that pronouncement, she added her little justification. "We are, well were, a crew of children. We have to be fluent in the rumors of the child-eaters."

There was an entire conspiracy map in her quarters, containing and not limited to markings about the islands of children eaters. Nevermind scrawls depicting the rumors of mythical beast sightings from Q, wind and current diagrams in Moon's steady hand, and scores of childish insults surrounding the island of Ghar Bagihra she had written a year ago. That map was one of the best and most thorough of greater Skysaeia. It was also the cause of more than a few of their problems...

"Well, boiling children was something they rumored in Europe before they started hunting us. Well, they did not officially do until 1563 but..." Iteral rambled a little. "Oh, yeah, you dunno, ehm... my childhood was with a different set of parents in a different time period. A seafaring merchant and a lovely seamstress... about five hundred years in the past. The goddess pulled me out one night to help her cause and I... never returned since." She shook her head, trying to get back to topic.

"Sorry, sorry. No no, this..." She sprinkles the spice over the pans without a care if something missed. "Is just for ordinary food."

"Magic really just explains everything, huh?"

Lydia glanced around.

"Man, what a cool place. I could probably spend a few decades around here..."

She laughed.

"Man, sky whales! Thise would be awesome!"

Moon sighed. "Well, you're kind of stuck here unless a door comes back for you. Learn to enjoy it. That's what I did..." This place was pretty... cool. But Lydia was still way too entusiastic.

"Want to lend a hand instead of standing around ogling at the world? I have a spare spyglass... at the very least, you could keep an eye out for our destination." She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, unsure how the girl would respond. But Jack had said that she was part of the crew, and she would need to do the duties of the crew. Besides, Moon was in charge of the crew right now, since Jack was skulking around the kitchen.

===

"Past, present, future. It's all relative, Iteral, dear. How old do you feel? That's the real question. I myself feel six at times, but twenty-six works just as well."

She smiled, watching her new chef cook. Jack would need to check up on her other recent aquisition, but for now, Moon was likely handling it just fine. This was going to be very fun, watching her dear crewmates deal with them...

"Well, I can phase through realities, so I won't be stuck anywhere, but this is cool! I want to stay here for a bit!"

Lydia kinda just bounced around.

"I'd love to help! Never used a spyglass before, but you can always learn, right?"

"I know it's relative. Before I abandoned my time powers, my age was fluctuating between 20 and 79." Iteral now had a more stern look on her face. "I'm 21 right now and the clocks are less responsive. It's as you said, your world abates my chronomanipulative nature. But I don't mind." She puts down everything and dials the heat down, seems like she's finished.

"Alrighty, how do you do it? Everyone get down here with a plate or do I take everything and serve?"

"Yes," Moon said, her voice sounding a little strange. "You can always... learn."

She stepped closer to Lydia, and handed her the spyglass tucked in her pocket.

"Hold it like... this." She put her hands on Lydia's and showed the girl how to position the spyglass.

"This knob will increase the magnification," she said, their fingers brushing the larger ridged cylinder, "And this knob will alter the focus. Use it to make the image clearer." She guided Lydia's hand to the smaller cylinder.

"It's fairly intuitive. You'll get it." She stood there for a second longer, gazing out to the horizon.

And then just as quickly, the moment had passed, and Moon stepped back quickly, almost as if she had been burned. She looked starboard, her eyes avoiding Lydia.

"I-I'll leave you to it, then." She shook her head as if to clear it, and then was off, sweepibg of to the upper deck.

===

"Twenty-one, that's a good age..." Jack trailed off. "What were you saying? Oh, just put together platters of food. They'll go up the dumbwaiter, and the crew'll grab'em up above. Everyone just makes plates for themselves."

Jack grinned, adjusting her hat again. "Need a taste tester before sending anything up?~"

Lydia was completely oblivious of anything going on with Moon, poffing herself high up into the sky, just... floating.

She fiddled with the spyglass, peering through it.

"Woah, this is cool!"

"How can you fly?" Moon said, looking back. The physics of the ship moving would leave Lydia suspended over open water unless she flew with the ship, but she wasn't moving, and she was staying with the ship, and-

Magic defied the laws of physics. She knew that. All the earthen teachings she had known were relative. Earthen teachings. Genghis Khan. Did Lydia come from... Earth?

"Magic."

Lydia shrugged. Somehow, her voice was just as loud from all the way up in the air as it was down on the deck of the ship.

She teleported back down to Moon, smiling.

"This isn't fair," she grumbled. But the land would equalize her powers soon enough. She had seen gods become less than mortals, mortals become Skysaeian gods. "Lydia... where did you come from? What was your... homeworld... like?"

"I'm part of a race known as the Monsters. Not quite human, not quite animals. We were sealed underground by the humans a millenia ago. I lived in a little town that people just called 'the town'."

She sh4ugged.

"No but I am sure you'll want to try everything so, before I get everything out there, you get first pick." Iteral smiles a little, crossing her arms. "Just leave enough for the crew, bottomless Jack."
