He laughed, a smile coming back on his face.
"Friends, sure. She says that, but I doubt it."
He started to walk ahead on his own.
"Like I said, best not to bother her."

Kendo didn't know her story. He had no right to pretend he did. But she had probably overreacted. It wasn't like the students didn't know her secret reputation of undercover pranks and tricks. She'd panicked thinking Kendo would tell, when she really didn't have any proof. And the fact that he was on the roof further supported the idea that she could trust him. At least for the time being. So... It really was her fault for shouting at him. He could have been nicer about it, but anyone would have reacted the same way.
Guess she owed someone an apology.

The Headmistress was getting ready. Orientation was extremely important. She had to make a strong impression on the students, and hopefully there would be no interruptions this year.

Athena tuned out after that, trusting her subconcious to record any important bits of information. But she didn't expect there to be any. She was to be proven wrong.
"... This year, we'll be doing something a bit different! We're going to have partners! Each new student will be asigned an older partner and mentor to guide them, they will be in special classes and work together on their projects. Partner lists can be found on the notice board as soon as Orientation is over."
And the rest was useless again. Just the usual reminders to stay on the school grounds, follow the Minder's instructions, etc.

Ducking out of the crowd again, she stood on the edge and searched for Jack.

The headmistress, a truly ignorant woman, was giving some speech about mentors. So Jack would be assigned a student. Ogd, if the woman even thought about making her mentor cross-house...
Jack also needed to check up on Kendo at some point. He was sitting next to Ayran now, but she was worried about him. She had always known that Kendo treated himself harshly. And in those times, she had tried to be there. Forcing him to work on potions homework together, engaging in long, absurd, hypothetical conversations, making sure he surrounded by people that liked him. It was all that she knew to do without asking him outright. Yet maybe it was time. Jack was used to scars; she had about three dozen tiny ones from dueling. They barely fazed her in a field where everyone pushed themselves to the limit. But Kendo had no excuse get one over the summer. She would talk to him outright.
Returning her attention to the assembly, Jack leaned against a pillar. She wondered who the headmistress would pair her with. She cast a vision spell to see the postings. Athena Lumina Lediana. Now to wait for the princess to come to her...
