Great Mother in the Sky: No Love in the House of God

Cat person didn't come back. But his food did. And it was, just as he requested, sushi. A paper cup of warm water. And a package of instant coffee.
He felt a smile creeping up on his face.
Adrik tipped the cup over, spilling the contents onto the floor. He wiped it dry as best he could with his shirt, then stood up. His legs were still wobbly after the hours he spent unconscious. He told himself to suck it up, and made his way to the corner.
He inhaled. He only had one shot. And if this went wrong and it literally blew up in his face-
Well, so much for having a brain, huh? He'd be lucky to end up a vegetable.
Using his nails, Adrik painstakingly peeled a portion of the stone wall away.
This would be his only chance.
He kneeled down on the ground and felt for the manacle. It was steel. And in a sense, it was all or nothing.
He brought the rock down with a CLANG and the sound ricocheted in the room. He cringed, waiting, but no one came.
Adrik worked at it for the next ten minutes. Occasionally there'd be a spark on the cup, but it wasn't working. Nothing was catching, not long enough.
He grew sweaty, until finally- there! It was alight.
He placed the cup down on the ground, heart pounding louder than it'd pounded in his life. He picked up the pack of powder and hesitated.
How explosive were coffee grounds? Should he start a fire in the vents and use the panic to escape, by lubricating the doorknob with the sushi?
No.
He couldn't pick locks. He had to take the risk. And if anything, if his cell went up in smoke...
They couldn't want him dead, could they?
Adrik placed the flaming cup in front of the single barred window and tossed the coffee grounds into the air. His arm flew up to shield his face. They fell in slow motion.
And then the entire wall exploded and Adrik was thrown backwards.

It must've only been 30 seconds before Adrik came to.
A whole thirty seconds for the guards to come to his cell. Adrik struggled to push himself up, despite tasting blood and ash in his mouth. He had to get going. Move, move stupid legs, before people came to investigate the explosion.
Through his ringing ears, he heard shouts down the corridor. But that didn't matter.
Because the entire wall was gone, and he saw sunlight.
He stumbled towards it like a dying man, reaching out for it with his good arm. The other hung limply by his side- he prayed he could still use it.
The whole world hit him in a blinding sensation. Then he started staggering on his weak limbs, barely reaching a guard tower and curling up inside it. He prayed he didn't leave a blood trail for the few seconds he had before he hit unconsciousness.

Selaphiel nodded and left the main chamber, waiting for the king's decision to be made. "Hopefully this works in our favor."

Setsuna Jun
Setsuna looked up as the voice approached. Dark hair bounced with the wind, falling in rippled waves to the person's shoulders. Something in him shuddered in revulsion as those amber eyes raked over his form.
"You look like hell," Kubo said simply.
"Been there, done that," Setsuna replied. Both stared at one another for a long moment.
"What're you now, a soldier, or a statistic?"
Something in Setsuna's chest broke at those words. "I-I-" he struggled to find something to say. "Screw you," he settled on. "I don't owe you anything."

Lean looks over at Caspian, then to Henry. She gave it a thought. "... as much as I dislike the idea, I can kind of see where they are coming from. A lot of power emanates from our young King. I can sense it."

Chiara returned with Ghost and Kemozi and looks at Setsuna, as they were crossing the bridge. A quick exchange of looks to the two... then, she approached her. "Set? Is that you?"

Setsuna Jun
"Set... is that you?"
Kubo's eyes sharpened. "Answer her," he said softly. "Why don't you?"
Setsuna shivered internally, then turned around to give her a small wave. "Oh- hi, Chiara. I didn't realize you were sent back. Thought you'd still be at base camp." Somehow, the words were bitter on his tongue. He wanted to yell at her, ask her why she wasn't there- but he knew it was unfair, so he kept quiet.
"Are you two friends?" Kubo spoke up.
"Of sorts," Setsuna muttered.

Selaphiel silently braced herself for the conversation she'd have, and then turned to Iteral. "Fine. Just make it quick."

Setsuna Jun
Am I? Setsuna wondered, and again the creeping feeling came over him. What had he been... about to do? Why was he at the bridge? Why was he gripping the railing to tightly like he was about to climb on top of it and-
Kubo's hand landed between his shoulders. Setsuna cringed away, but was internally grateful for the contact. "We were just talking," he said coolly. "You're not interrupting anything."

Iteral pulls Sela away from the others, just enough that they're out of sight. She takes a deep breath... and then hugs her tightly around her waist. "I... eh, wanted to thank you. I know life's not been kind to you and I am sure I am not doing you any favors either but you returning to me and trying to help me. It was... relieving. It wasn't much, I know and you were the cause of it to begin with... but I think deep down, you do care for us. And I'd like to thank you for showing it to me." Despite her being drenched, the embrace was a lot warmer than expected. A heavenly warmth, almost.
