She tilted her head. Just what was he doing now? Did he think this was a game? "You there, tell me your name!" She had a very authority-demanding voice when she needed it. "Just who are you?"

"Hmph. A magician and a swordsman?" Well, nevermind. He could actually be useful. "And what are you doing out in the desert so late at night? Are you with Legion?"

"What, am I not allowed to take a stroll through the f***ing desert?"

He said, sarcastically.

"No, a mysterious force dragged me out here. I don't know why, but it's gonna kill me if I stop walking~"

"Well, if I explained it, you would probably think i went insane or something."

He sighed, slumping.

"So basically, we're all just lines of text on a pokemon fan-game site's roleplay section."

"Yeah, no clue what you're talking about. Don't even elaborate." She huffed, looking around and trying to sound as casual as she could. "If it helps... I guess... Would you, like, want to join me? Of course, you probably shouldn't. It's way too dangerous of a task that I've received- actually, nevermind. Forget I said anything. Continue your walk, human."

Kingdom of Snavia

Isla Greer

---

It was on the 2nd day of the new world that Isla learned that her reign was to be challenged by outside influences. And what a day it was- bundled into her office, with some brat stuttering broken Ayerielian at her face.

"O-Oh! It is honour to meet you miss! Hello! I Adrik... Here for interview?"

"Speak Snavian," she sighed, leaning back in her chair. "You're in Snavia, kid. Ayeriel is long off."

"Oh..." he trailed off. "I thought something was wrong. I thought the driver... yeah... Well!" 'Adrik' practically climbed on her desk, staring intensely at her. "I'm here on a mission! I need to discover the political ramifications of the new Queen of Snavia. I'm here to ask you, as a fellow citizen, to share your opinions with me!"

He faltered a bit. "I'm a budding journalist," he added helpfully.

Isla inhaled sharply. That reminded her of something her spy networks had reported, just that morning. Outside interference from the Ekothia alliance- they were to supply her with powerful magicians in exchange for information on the central powers of Macedon.

Was this what this child was here for? Was he to be her backup?

He didn't look like much- but then again, powerful magic users rarely did.

Watching him intently, she said, "I find the base structures of magic interesting. Isn't there some... snowflake or rock that results from spells?"

Instantly, he was on high alert. "You mean the crystalline remnants that form the base for a soul spell's carapace? The structure is similar to a snowflake- but it's generally considered more accurate to compare it to the wear done to the Etchka Cliffs by Ekothia, due to the complex shaping done by the magic that pours over the framework and the skeleton it leaves behind. Snowflake is fairly accurate for a beginner's magic lesson, but most scholars use different metaphors to compare, since the way a snowflake comes around is entirely different from how-"

"I get it," she cut in. A reference to Ekothia. Her suspicions were confirmed. "How about we make a deal?"

"O-Oh!" he stammered. "A deal? That sounds fun." To anyone else, he might look embarrassed, but she knew it was only a mask. This was a highly trained soldier, sent to support her in conquering Snavia.

"Yes. A deal. Information for... magical information." She clasped her hands together, leaning across the table. "Say, Adrik- you wouldn't happen to be-"

Then a grunt burst through the door. "We're under attack!" he cried. "The Royal Guard-" Both Adrik and Isla turned to stare at them, one gaze far deadlier than the last. The soldier's legs shook and he gave a whimper, but plowed on. "The Royal Guard- we're being attacked from the North! Manecdon has turned on us."

Everyone in the room went deathly still.

"Adrik," Isla said calmly, not looking away from the man. "Can you do magic?"

"U-Uh- yes?"

"Good. Then we're off."

And so, Queen Isla-Aviva Greer, a legion of soldiers, and Powerful Magician Adrik Volkov went off to war, to fight for the new queen of Snavia. Unfortunately, the story can never be that simple.

Adrik Volkov

---
Adrik hadn't meant to get sent to the office of what looked like a very, very High General. He was on a school project, in all honesty. And like the stupid overachiever he was, he decided to get an actual "interview" for his project on the ramifications of the political disturbance of the new queen's reign- something that had been kept under lock and key.

He'd gotten the sense that there was something wrong the entire time he'd been talking to the guards. They only spoke Ayerielan and kept talking to each other. And they said something about magic? And the queen?

He was honestly considering abandoning it alltogether, especially if he had to do translation work afterward, but before he knew it, he was plopped in a desk in this strange military office staring down this woman who looked like she wanted to kill him within 5 seconds of meeting him.

Then she was asking questions about magic and, well, great! Adrik had never had people really interested in his weird hyperfixations, so he was happy to share-

And then things got kinda weird.

And now he was in a cart? Going off to a battle of some kind? And he didn't have any weapons whatsoever and-

Oh god, this wasn't good.

From the way everyone was talking, Adrik got the sense he was supposed to be a healer of some kind. Made to take care of people on the back, and support with ranged attacks if anyone got up and close.

And then somebody started asking him about barrier magic.

"Well- basically, to do barrier magic-" he stammered, and then they weren't looking at him and were just saying weelll, he can do it. It doesn't usually take more than one person, right?

More than one person?

For powerful magicians, maybe. But he, certainly was not.

Y'see, the thing was-

Adrik had never used magic in his life.

He'd lied his entire way through magic school. He used mechanisms and contraptions to feign a weak strength power in order to blend in. Never had he thought he'd be put in a situation of combat before- especially when he didn't have anything on him.

Basically, he had to tell an entire legion of soldiers that he was completely unmagical and they were all going to their deaths, or face down an entire army next to the angry lady who everyone seemed to cry at the sight at.

And the worst part?

They spoke Ayerielan. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

Kingdom of Ekothia

Setsuna Jun

---
Setsuna for once had no words to describe how much this sucked. Honestly, that was an achievement. Five languages, an obsessive interest in Mythology and dictionaries and all the boringness of the world.

This place smelled like an outhouse, everyone was yelling, and he'd just stepped in what looked to be the cremated ashes of whatever somebody's dog had regurgitated on its twelfth engorgement of the day.

Why was he here?

Oh right.

Independence. Growing up. Military career.

He should've picked college.

"Up and at 'em, boys!" his commanding officer barked. "If you're the Legion's foot, then it needs an amputation! You smell like worms, you hear me? YOU SMELL LIKE WORMS!"

Worms, as far as Setsuna knew, smelt like dirt, which smelt like rocks, which smelt like nothing at all. But the words seemed to have an effect on the rest of his fellow army-mates, so he quickly drew himself up with a salute. One of his good bedmates "accidentally" elbowed him.

"It's okay, I know you did that on accident," he whispered to him. "Can I see your lambie later? It looks super cute. I wish I knew to bring my toys."

The soldier hissed at him so Setsuna flinched away. He muttered something about screws being loose, though Setsuna didn't quite catch where the constructional defect was.

"You've been here for two months, and what've you learned? NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!" He swivelled on his heel and pointed at a random man. "You! What have you learned?"

Setsuna had learned how to get yelled at and not cry. Did that count?

"Nothing sir, nothing."

"EXACTLY! NOTHING, I SAY! NOTHING!" He continued pacing around. "Because you worms are incapable of receiving an education, we've set up some live lessons for you." He paused. "On the border! Do you understand?"

"YES SIR!"

Setsuna stayed silent. Live lessons? He already shot dummies. He wasn't fully sure he understood what was going on. Were they going after moon-people or something? He'd had a book on that...

"Prepare for battle by 0600 hours! Return to your duties, men, work won't wait!"

And then pace returned to normal around him. "I wonder what that was about," he whispered to one of his fellow soldiers.

The man sneered at him, and joined the others in making a wide berth around Setsuna.

Oh well, that was a nice answer- Time to get to work, Setsuna guessed. Or hide in the ammunitions closet again. Even though that's kinda sad.

"Yes sir, yes sir," he mumbled under his breath as he resumed stocking. He sure wished being a soldier had proven to be as enlightening as it was in the books. Nothing seemed to really make sense yet.

Tom Ridgewell leaned back in his wooden chair, strumming away on his bass guitar, which he affectionately calls "Susan". He had been coping pretty well with everything that was going on in the outside world, and he was just fine with bouncing from Kingdom to Kingdom, from Alleyway to Alleyway, just to find a place to live for a few days and then move to the next one.
Yeah, life was good for Tom. He hadn't seen or heard from his arch-enemy, Tord Larsson, for quite some time. He felt somewhat happy without hearing from Tord, and happy was an emotion that Tom rarely ever genuinely felt.
Tom sure was enjoying his current life...

"Like I said before, your body would be incapable of carrying it out. I need powerful people, such as paladins and war heroes and wizards with strong abilities." She turned in the other direction and began to walk away. "Legion has Her Majesty under his control, if you can't recall from his cocky announcement a few months ago. I need to free her."

"Well, yeah, actually. But, if you insist, then fine. I do expect to see your prowess later, so I can assess you." She motioned for him to follow her, using her wings to fly instead of walking the whole way. "We're going to need others than us. I'm only so strong on my own, given my classification and status."

A hooded figure was traversing the desert as well, making slower steps at a time. The figure looked like it was barely moving but skipped a surprising distance, though the noises in the distance distracted her. Then they saw the teleporting person who kept reappearing over and over. "... can't be..." The figure started running towards the angel and Kendo, speed inconsistent and somewhat unpredictably fast.

She turned to the figure running towards them, unfazed and holding her hand out to attack. A bright light glowed from her palm. "Begone! Ark!" The stranger was encased in a shining orb that deteriorated them, it's potency depending on how much they have sinned.

The orb... it at first did it's job correctly, but then the target disappeared, reappearing where it was two seconds earlier. "I'm no foe!" A female voice exclaimed, though that voice has some weird ticking noises attached. They take off the hood, revealing an ordinary black haired girl, with a clock strapped in her hair to act as a ponytail. "Kendo? Have we met before?" What an odd question...

Ghost walked over to the man and stared at him some more. They then see a bug and start watching it instead, after the bug flew off they turned back to Ayran and wait.
