Atticus burst out of the room, extremely worried. "Cath? Are you alright." He grabbed hold of her trying to steady her. "What happened? Where were you? Why were you?.... [d]uck. That came out wrong."

Scarlett blinked awake, the pre-dawn light assaulting her through her window. She lifted one hand to block it before realizing she was pinned. Panic flooded through her before she realized it was only Ayran holding her. Gently, she lifted his arms off of her and climbed out of bed, her feet hitting the floor with a light thump.

She turned to look at him, eyes flooding with love and pain. She gave him a quick kiss on his head before changing into tights and a skin-tight shirt, snatching a dark masquerade mask from a hidden compartment. With a swift, guilty look to make sure Ayran was still sleeping, she pulled a shadow blade from the compartment before shutting it. She strapped a holster to her hip and slid the blade in. An arrow holster was slid over her shoulder, a bow in her opposite hand.

Pelt Hunters loved Drayken and Dragon scales more than almost anything. A single scale attached to a cloak could increase the wearer's life span by 100 years. Coupled with a Werewolf or Fryvern cloak, the wearer could consistently count on an additional 300 years of life. A Kitsune cloak.... She shook her head. She had already lost one lover to the Pelt Hunters; it wasn't going to happen again.

Her throat constricted as she realized what she was going to do, the words she would be leaving unsaid, the possibility of never returning. But this was her responsibility - It was her fault they were still so common. With one last look at Ayran, she hopped out the window, shutting it silently. She walked calmly to her twisted trees in the forest and opened the portal to her home. This time, on the inside, she shredded a rose. A portal opened to the outskirts of city in the South. "I love you, Ayran." She whispered as she stepped through.

"Hey. I'm alright..." She was confused at his reaction, and raised an eyebrow. Yes, Cath was kind of a mess at the moment, but she was fine. Or at least, that was what she was going to continue to tell herself. Minus points for emotion and profanity, she thought to herself.

"What about you, Mr. Redding? I hope that you made your way back to campus safely?"

She peeled his hand off of her shoulder, and tried not to flinch at the human contact. She was refocsed, single-minded once more; Cath could not indulge in friendship.

Lucinda yawned and woke up, she heard movement in Ayran and Scarlett’s dorm, but she was too lazy to check it out, she still didn’t know which quest to go on but number four and two were sounding good to her. She took out her sword and examined it, it might need polishing. She polished her sword and headed to the corridor, hoping that more people were up.

Atticus cringed. "Sorry. And yeah," he paused,"I made it back alright." He looked over her. She had a sort of distant look in her eyes. "To be completely honest, when I woke up and couldn't find either you or Rin, I got scared and fell into a tree." He showed a few scrapes on his arm. "But I'm fine otherwise... Be honest, what is going on?"

She closed the door behind them, and cast a few shadowspells to ensure they wouldn't be overheard. After checking to make sure the room was empty, Cath turned back to Atticus.

"The truth is relative, Mr. Redding. This is the first lesson any critical thinker learns. And honesty is often... tactically unsound."

She ran a hand through her hair, thinking. Friendship, honestly, deception, lies. There really wasn't much that she could tell him.

"I was hoping that you could tell me what was going on anyway... I slept through most of it last night." True enough. He didn't need to know that the sleep was against her own volition.

"I'm not sure either... but I believe a few missions are over and the pelt-hunters have been taken down." He closed his eyes and thought. "The octopus thing has disappeared for a while now, but I'm not sure it will stay that way. I believe that Rin is connected to it in a critical way, but I think it most likely traces back to her family."

"Miss Rin and the octopod are definitely connected. She said that 'it comes when it's called'... whatever that means. And then she mentioned her sister Carlise..." She trailed off. Cath rubbed her eyes absentmindedly.

"I would love to continue with the diplomacy mission, but I'm not so sure about Miss Rin's intentions. We'd need to keep an eye on her."

She watched Atticus curiously out of the corner of her eye. Annoyed by the clutter and mess on the other half of the room, she started making Rin's bed. "Messy idiot..."

Something was tugging at the corner of her mind. Ah yes, Atticus's past.

"And yourself, Mr. Redding... Are you doing okay in the aftermath of your recession to the haven of your office? I'm here if you need to talk..." Cath was selfaware enough to know that she the last person who should be giving advice. But she could always listen.

Scarlett looked around the town that she had once called home. It hadn't changed much, unsurprisingly. Citizens paced around in their normal manner only... They seem worn down. A man with brown hair caught Scarlett's interest.

Her feet refused to move. That was Hellina's dad, standing right there. He looked old. Much older. Hadn't she left only 3 years ago?

He spotted her, and she just stood there, the two staring. Then recognition flooded over his face. He walked- No, he limped over to her. "Scarlett?" She flinched, waiting for the reprimand. "It's been so long... I thought you'd never come back." Her head jerked up, confused, but his eyes are soft. "We," He corrected himself. "Thought you would never come back. You've been gone for 50 years."

Fif-Fifty years?? No, that can't be right. She was 19, wasn't she?

"You look much older now." He holds up a bit of her long hair. "Not like the 14 year old I remembered." Scarlett looks around. "Where's Silvana, Noel?" His face falls. "They got her yesterday." Furry ignites in her. "Those b@sst@rds are going to pay." Noel nods, but clearly doesn't agree. "Come on, I'll take you to the house." Hesitantly, she follows.

Atticus flinched. "I am fine." He said it automatically. He shook his head, more to himself rather than her. "No, who am I kidding. Too many memories..." He reached in a pocket and brought out a wooden carving. It was a butterfly. "Reina carved this for me. That was the week before she killed herself." He closed his eyes and clutched the little charm. "We got in an arguement. She said that I needed to follow along with my father's plan and marry her. She said that maybe then I would actually love her. I was her lifelong friend, but it was through business. My father and hers were powerful and wanted to share wealth. If we got married, we would form a family line, but I begun to hate her after my father brought it up. I told her that no matter how much she pleaded, I would refuse to love her as long as she lived so she..." his voice caught," She asked if I would love her if she was dead." He sighed. "She jumped in a well that very night."

Cath didn't know what to say. She opened her mouth, and closed it again. She was no stranger to tragedy - everyone had a story - but that didn't mean she was any less saddened by Atticus's. She put a hand on his shoulder. Human contact was said to comfort people. What was she supposed to say? She was the socially inept one. Always observing emotions, never participating in them. She could never understand Atticus's full pain.

But maybe that was the point.

"You've probably heard enough apologies to last a lifetime, hm? People pretending to understand." She paused. "Death is hard. Suicide and sacrifice are harder. I can't say for certain, but from a logical standpoint, you are not at fault. Perhaps your comment hastened the inevitable but from my... experience... those who want to do so will do it. You are young. No one expects you to have all the answers. It wasn't your job to protect her."

She gazed at him intently, looking for something.

"What I've said... these are all the things we whisper to ourselves so we can go to sleep at night. Guilt is hard. But sometimes it helps to hear an outside source reaffirm what we hope to be true."

Cath paused again, her brain catching up with her words.

"Ogd, I probably messed that up, didn't I? I've found that sympathy and pity are the worst, so I instead try to deal with logic. What I'm trying to say is guilt is a dark path. I've been down there and back again. Please don't define yourself by one event. Atticus, you have so much potential."

Logic was her substitute for emotion. She didn't wish that curse on anyone.

Atticus nodded. "Yes. Thank you." He tried searching his mind for something to say, but he couldn't. He hadn't felt someone sorry for him in a while. Reina's father might count, but it was mostly for himself. "I'm going to go for a walk." He smiled sadly and unlocked the door.
