UMBERCLOUD Umbercloud was slinking around camp, making sure every den had been fine. She wasn't too enthusiastic about the idea of leaving, especially since this place was all she'd ever known. She jumped slightly, realizing she was spoken to.

"The kits becoming Apprentices early.." She shivered, ears pinning down. "The Code forbids it. We'd risk StarClan's wrath if we took that path. I can't stop you, but I can't say I approve."

Her whiskers twitched slightly, an unsure look on her face. "I'd even be willing to carry the kits on my back the entire journey, if it came down to it."

She sat back on her haunches, having to pause her checking up on the dens for this. So much for her and Mushroompaw being able to make them sturdier for the season..

"Yes, but the kits are almost 6 moons old. Just 2 moons early won't kill them. Plus, having a mentor would strip their curiosity and refrain them from making ill decisions" Frozenstar argued. "But it is true, StarClan forbids against it... Well then, we won't begin their apprenticeship early, but give them basic teachings. What do you think? Besides, the kits are getting WAY to jumpy. It'll be good for them to have something to do."

Skywhisper watched Frozenstar. He did not like the idea of breaking the warrior code, but he understood the necessity. He only hoped that their ancestors would understand too. He believed that the idea of informal training was a good one. As one of the quieter members of the clan, he was often overlooked. But it was fine, Skywhisper preferred it this way.

He carefully approached his leader, and bowed his head in greeting. "Frozenstar, do we have a direction for our journey yet?" His knack for tracking and wayfinding had made him the navigator on many a hunting party, leading the swiftest and strongest of his Clan to food. This would be a grand challenge even for him.

My unfinished symphony, forever unfinished! If I can't have this, then no one can.

Frozenstar flinched, having not thought of that yet. "Not yet. But do not worry! We will send out patrols to map out a route! Of course, we will need brave warriors. Umbercloud, do you have any selective cats you wish to journey to find a new home for us?" Frozenstar called out. "If not, I would love it if Firepelt, Skywhisper, and Poppyscar to choose a couple apprentices to accompany them to find a new home. True, it will be dangerous, especially for the apprentices, but it will be a good learning experience and will teach them to control themselves."

Firepelt looked up, surprised. 'Frozenstar wants me to lead a quest with Skywhisper? But I'm so new! And young!' he thought.

Snowykit looked up, hearing it. "Darkkit! Listen! Frozenstar wants Firepelt and Skywhisper to go on a quest and take a couple apprentices! I wonder if we might be chosen!"

“Okay, Bearpaw. You will need your mentor’s permission first.” Frozenstar contradicted “and if your mentor says yes, then you need either Firepelt or Skywhisper’s permission.”

Mothpaw, now Mothcloud, listened as plans were made and young kits whispered among themselves. She worried a little at the mention of some of the kits being made apprentices so soon. Would Starclan allow such, for the sake of the Clan?

Darkkit purred. "Wouldn't it be grand," She started, "to have an important mission immediately upon becoming an apprentice? She longed for this for a long time. She would prove herself to her clan!

She tilted her head.

"Though, if all of the Apprentices go, we'd certainly have to pick up the slack on their duties around camp. I'm sure I can manage, but for those that stay behind, we'd need to stay vigilant."

Adding on, "I believe that Bearpaw and Mushroompaw, as the eldest Apprentices, would be worthwhile cats to bring along."

All of this was said quietly to Frozenstar.

MUSHROOMPAW Mushroompaw had been entirely distracted, just working her tail off to restructure the Nursery. The snow had battered it down, and she figured that the Queens would appreciate it.

The ginger and white she-cat pressed her broad muzzle to the freezing brambles, trying to loosen some of them to reattach differently. She hadn't even noticed the Clan having a discussion, having entirely buried herself in den-cleanup.

Skywhisper had always liked Mushroompaw; the apprentice was hard-working and experienced. He padded over to Firepelt, and looked at him as if to ask his opinion.

"I would agree that the two eldest apprentices would be a good choice. We may wish to take a third warrior with us depending on how far we plan to travel. But I value your opinion, what do you think?"

"I agree" Frozenstar said. "Take the two apprentices. As for the third warrior... How about Poppyscar? Would that work?"

Firepelt replied, "I'm fine with Poppyscar if Skywhisper's fine with her".

Snowypaw did her best to hide her disappointment. She had longed to go with them so badly! But she composed herself, and congratulated her friends (now), Bearpaw and Mushroompaw. "Darkpaw!" she hissed. "Hide your jealousy and congratulate them!"

Mothcloud smiled a little. The chosen ones to go on the quest would do well, she knew it within her chest.

Darkpaw wanted to snarl, to yowl in anger. Instead she cooly nodded to the chosen Bearpaw and Mushroompaw, not trusting her voice to speak kindly to them.

Umbralscar stayed away from the cats if possible, just overhearing their conversations if possible. She didn't like talking to other cats since she had a fear of messing something up and making others upset, so she chose to remain silent. She laid down next to a nearby tree, her gaze fixed directly on Darkpaw and Snowyheart.

MUSHROOMPAW She let out a confused little, "Mwrr?" as she tore her attention from den-weaving. "What's goin' on?" She glanced between Darkpaw and Snowypaw, her broad snout slightly scrunched.

"Sorry, was workin' on somethin'. Is, uh, sum'n goin' on?"

The rosetted she-cat sat back on her haunches, slightly shivering in the cold air. Her short pelt was no help against the chill of the mountains.

Poppyscar purred honored to go on the journey. She wandered to the fresh-kill pile and picked out a scrawny squirrel. The weather was getting worse, and all the prey were starting to leave the area due to the weather.

Umbralscar shifted her gaze to Mushroompaw and Poppyscar, the two newly-spoken cats. She slowly slid out of the shadows, being careful with every step. She slowly slid up to Mushroompaw, as that was the first cat that caught her interest, yet she did not say a word, just listened.

Snowfang and Blackheart whispered to each other. "It's really happening! Frozenstar is leading some clan cats on a quest to find warmth! Will the new apprentices survive the cold journey?" Snowfang whispered. Blackheart listened and meowed, "I don't know, but I don't like this sound. Is she really leading some young and old cats on a dangerous quest? We might lose even more clan cats by doing this." Blackheart slowly rose and sauntered off to the fresh-kill pile. He took a small rabbit to share with Snowfang. The bigger prey shall be left for the other clan members. Blackheart carefully walked back to the den, the snow making him sink with every paw step. "Here, have some rabbit," mewed Blackheart as he dropped the prey next to Snowfang's paws.
