Kel ran across the rooftop, bare feet sliding along the damp shingles. His mist cloak flapped behind him, mixing with the dense mist that was all around. He noticed too late the edge of the rooftop approaching. His foot landed on nothing, and he fell.
Reaching into his coin pouch, Kel brought out a boxing, the smallest form of currency. He threw it down, then burned steel. Translucent blue lines sprang up all around him, connected to his chest and seemingly pointing at random things. A small fire blazed in his stomach as he chose a blue line, the one pointing directly below him. He pushed on the blue line, and felt himself being flung into the air.

For most of his life, all he really knew was darkness, the familiar arms of Sleep more comforting that his mothers embrace had ever been. Even now he sought affection in those shadowy arms, always walking hand in hand with it. Even while slipping through the mist in an effort to hurry back to the place they had been using as a place to sleep, Sleep held their hand guiding them. Drawing the cloak close around his ratted dress, he drew a heavy hand to rub at his heavy eyes, attempting to squint through it all. Ah, but it was much too hard to keep their eyes open. As Sleep gently placed a warm hand over their eyes, soft and so unlike the cold and unknown around them, they let that familiar hand take their own and closed their eyes again, the heaviness a welcome security and the warm burn of bronze against their collarbone a grounding flare.

Somewhere in the back alley of a misty city, Minsoo toppled back into sleep, a light thump going unheard by the rest of the city
