I just realized that all I have to do to get numbers 152 through 251 in my Pokédex is to let one of my Swinubs evolve and wait for my Ho-Oh egg to hatch. Will I get the Pokédex reward for Johto after that, or do I have to complete Kanto first? It’s just the numbers that you need, right?

Each dex completion is independent from the others so you don't need to have the previous dex completed to get the reward for completing one. So, after your swinub evolves and your Ho-Oh hatches, you should get the Johto dex completion provided that you own each pokemon for Johto at that moment.

(Additionally, dex completions won't be revoked after getting them if you trade one of your pokemon away or one evolves.)

That’s great! I just want to make sure that all you need is the numbers because, you know, I don’t have all of the different Unown forms. You only need one Unown to complete the Pokédex in the games, but I was afraid it wouldn’t be the same here.

I am also wondering if having an event version of a Pokémon counts. For example, would Seatran count for Heatran, since it has the same Pokédex number?

You need all the unown forms and event forms do not count as they are part of a different dex and dont count as the same mon

Shadow pokemons count in the Shadow Dex, not the Pokedex.

Shadow Pokemon does count towards the PokeDex completion, not just Shadow Dex only
In PokeDex tab, there's no separate category for Shadow Pokemon like Emera Pokemon (aka Event Pokemon), and it counts as if you've already owned its normal counterpart, like Shiny Pokemon

Huh, I stand corrected then.

Are all the different forms of Rotom needed to complete the Sinnoh Dex? Or is just one normal Rotom enough?

You need all Rotom forms in order to complete Sinnoh Dex
(Except Emera-exclusive ones like Drill Rotom, Monitor Rotom, PokeDex Rotom, etc..
Basically you only need Heat, Wash, Mow, Fan and Fridge ones)

Okay, thank you for telling me. Now I’m wondering if you need to have the Primal forms of Groudon and Kyogre and the Black and White forms of Kyurem to get the Hoenn and Unova Dexes completed.

I actually have both Groudon and Kyogre and both the Red Orb and the Blue Orb, but I only have one of each. Do I need to get another Groudon and another Kyogre to be able to have one pair holding the orbs to complete the Hoenn Dex? And I have one Kyurem and both Reshiram and Zekrom, but do I need to get two more Kyurems and the Black and White DNA splicers for them to hold?

I’m guessing that all of the Vivillon forms except for the Pride Vivillon are needed for the Kalos Dex. It’ll probably be really hard to find the Poké Ball and Fancy forms, though (not least of all because I can’t hunt for them myself because I can only use my phone, not a PC). And I’m also guessing that all of the Zygarde forms are required. And probably all of the Deoxys forms for Hoenn, too, right?

Wait a minute, I just realized that the alternate Zygarde forms didn’t exist until the Alola games. And I think two of them are Emera-exclusive. So now I’m questioning which Zygarde forms are required for which Pokédex completions.

@LALVOE Well..

1) Groudon and Kyogre in Primal forms (aka holding Orbs) aren't needed in order to complete Hoenn Dex
However, White and Black Kyurem are needed to complete Unova Dex

2) Pride, Poké Ball and Fancy Vivillon aren't needed as they're Event-exclusive mon
All Zygarde forms are required, including 100% to finish Kalos Dex
And you don't need Deoxys, as it is obtained after you finish Hoenn Dex

Oh, yeah, I forgot that Deoxys is the reward for Hoenn. Oops. And I’m glad to hear that Poké Ball and Fancy aren’t required, and REALLY glad to hear that I don’t have to get another Groudon and another Kyogre. I’m surprised to hear that all of the Zygarde forms are required, though, because the Zygarde Core and the Zygarde Cell forms aren’t Pokémon in the games at all, they’re Emera-only, so I was thinking that only the 10%, 50%, and 100% Zygarde forms would be required (which I already have, except for the 10% one).

A good way to check what counts for dex completion is to check the pokedex for the region you're trying to complete. You just gotta fill in all those question marks (aside from the dex completion reward pokemon).

Which is why I'm a bit confused by the claim that the Pokeball and Fancy Vivillons don't count for dex completion as they're listed under Kalos in the dex. (While the Pride Vivillon is definitely an Emera (event) pokemon and not needed for Kalos completion.)

Ahh that was a horrible mistake of mine to say that Poké Ball and Fancy Vivillon aren't needed for Kalos Dex. I didn't notice that while scrolling through my PokeDex
I apologize for spreading this misinformation :'c

Coming back to this post because my Johto Dex is full, 127/127, but I’m not getting any reward... I thought I’d probably get the reward from the Lab, but there’s nothing there about it... Please tell me what I’m supposed to do, or if it’s glitching how to fix it.

Edit: Never mind, there was just a delay, I guess. I waited for quite a while and refreshed the page many times and it’s finally popped up.
