Kaoru's heart thudded in her chest. What... what does this mean? Why does his smile make me think of... hers? Am I going crazy? They're totally different people...
But looking at his face, she wasn't fully sure.
"I trust you too," she said softly. "I think it's important that we find someone we can trust. If we continue like this, all mistrusting one another, then there'll be a murder for sure. But by working together, we can find our own dynamics and families."
Families...
"I'd be happy if you were a part of my... well, Hope's Peak family, Lucian."
Lucian Arbred's POV
He realized, he didn't actually know all that much about Kaoru. "Have you ever... gone camping?" he asked, feeling like Sawyer for asking such a random question.

Kaoru Kajiwara
Ouch. Kaoru tried to hide her flinch, but it was too late. For some reason, that kinda... hurt. Was she missing something?
She shook the thought off and smiled at him. "Never. I lived out in the countryside, but I was primarily indoors. Not much free time." She ran her fingers over the beads. "Always liked to spend times indoors. Stained glass, carvings..." she trailed off, realizing she might be saying too much. "Anyway," she quickly covered. "I haven't. How about you?"
Lucian Arbred's POV
He listened intently to her story. "Wow," he breathed. The things she trailed off about...
"Ah... well..." He trailed off himself for a moment, seemingly drifting somewhere else.
"...city life. Apartment. We were always moving."
...always moving.
"My family's... complicated." That's one way of putting it.
"...so I guess you could say, we were always camping."
He twisted a lock of hair around his fingers, avoiding eye contact.

"Complicated?" she echoed. The butterflies stilled. "What do you mean by that?"
She tipped her head to the side. Her gameboy glowed on the bed, hidden beneath the sheets. She quickly shoved it back in her pack before he could notice.

The sudden remark Idris made was enough to make Mei burst into laughter once again. "Heh, got me there." Ok, nevermind, Idris was someone she was willing to be around. He seemed funny enough, took her lame af jokes well
Too bad Sawyer and Saeko were kinda ruining it.
She felt her arms being tugged by the chocolatier and the weird nerd, and she didn't dare protest. Sure, Mei could easily overpower them and go about her day, but she figured that this was worth seeing through. She watched as the two friends walked away, and the other two drag her away. Mei didn't stand up or anything, that would be too easy for them, she instead let her legs drag along the floor.
All she did was loudly whistle an odd tune in hopes that it would annoy them, or at least fill the silence.
Lucian Arbred's POV
He clutched at the blanket on the bed and studied it (not where the gameboy was hidden).
"...my family, they yelled a lot, they fought a lot, we moved a lot... they'd say hurtful things. If you ask me, they all needed a good therapist." He laughed. "It's funny, I... was wondering if I might actually be needed here. Considering our situation."
("LUCIAN, YOU'RE SPEAKING TOO MUCH!!" Dorky screeched.)
("...what do you want me to do, say it telepathically?")
("YES. EXACTLY.")
("...how am I supposed to do that, this roleplay has at least some logic?")
("...-sigh-... fair point, carry on.")
Sawyer Laurens's POV
"STOP COPYING MY LINES, SAWYER!!"
"Hey, wait, you said that earlier?"
"...something like that." Darcy glanced away.
"Hey, is it just me, or is our "hostage" weirdly quiet?"
"...why are you calling Mei a hostage?"
"I dunno, isn't that kinda what this is like?"
"...why am I helping with this again?"
"BECAUSE, the challenge is important and I must fight for everyone's hon-!!"
"Okay, I get it," Darcy interrupted. "Sometimes I wonder if you have a Savior Complex or something."
"Well," Sawyer shrugged, "You've known me this long, I guess."
Darcy Harper's POV

"You're needed," she whispered. "It's not funny. It's right. I want you to stay here with me, and be Lucian, the way that you are?"
She released his shoulders. "Okay?" She gave him a hesitant smile.
I mean it... I just hope it's what he needs to hear right now.
Lucian Arbred's POV
"...thank you. Kaoru, why are you so nice to me?" He stared down at the bedding. "I'm supposed to be the therapist here. So why aren't we talking about your issues?"

To answer your question... Well, I guess these butterflies might be guiding me. Leading me to my truth.
By talking with you, maybe I'm helping myself.

At least Mei could use this slow walk to think about things.
...Like how much everyone probably hated her.
Oh well, at least this was a fun, informative, and totally useful experience.
"Heyy... Can you guys drag me into the gym a biiiiit quicker? It's getting a bit boring..." Mei grumbled, not doing anything to help them. "Seriously, the gym isn't that far, and I don't wanna listen to you guys babble on anymore!" A groan was made soon after her comment, then she went back to whistling. The pitch was lower, the rhythm inconsistent, and a few grumbles could be heard in between, but it was still the same tune from before.
Sawyer Laurens's POV
"...are... we... hfff... almost there?" Darcy asked.
"Yeah, I think so! Is that an infested beetle nest or the gym?"
"It's the gym, Sawyer. Why the heck do you always see something else?"
"Aww, that would have been fun though. Alright, we're here!" Sawyer stated, because the narrator was also getting tired of Sawyer and Darcy's arguing. "It is time for our challenge! ANY QUESTIONS?" they asked, dramatically turning to Mei who they and Darcy plopped down on the floor.
Darcy was panting. "...how... was... that not hard for... you?"
Sawyer shrugged. "I dunno! How was it hard for you? You had another person helping you do it!"
"Well jeez, no need to flaunt your muscular status to me, SOY BEAN."
"Soy Bean" ignored the last comment. "Anyway! Um, do you have any questions about the challenge?"
"...you just asked that."
"I did?!" Sawyer looked genuinely surprised.
"Can I go now?" Darcy asked nervously.
Sawyer shrugged. "Do you want to?"
"yes, but the character interactions in this instance are too valuable to waste."
"Okay! That's a no, then!" Sawyer exclaimed, ignoring the weirdness of that statement.
Darcy Harper's POV

"No, I won't, I'll be fast. Why am I doing this..."
"Oh, okay!"
Lucian Arbred's POV
He slowly took her hands in his and nodded. "...okay. So, what should we do about... this whole Killing Game situation?" He looked at the wall. "...I thought I'd try to stop anyone from being killed." He took out the decent-sized, non-lethal book. "You know, just in case. It wouldn't kill anyone to use. But I can't be everywhere at once. ...I have a bad feeling..."
He breathed out heavily.

Something about Lucian's hands in hers made her heart pound. She tried to ignore it.
"Maybe we can go talk to different people," she suggested. "We can form like... patrols and whatnot. And we go talk to different people, trying to figure out who we can... befriend, you know."

They were still bickering? Ugh... At least they were finally here...
"You guys are so weak... I'm not even that heavy!" To be fair, she really wasn't... One person could easily lift her up, really. Maybe it was all those chocolates that made Darcy so prone to exhaustion... Mei hadn't had chocolates in a while, especially not good ones. Actually... Mei hadn't eaten hardly anything for a while, her biggest meal in a few years was the meal Monokuma gave them. Yeah, she might've had a slight problem with eating, so what? She was "healthy" enough, and that's all that mattered.
Mei laid on the floor like a starfish, face up and mindlessly tilting her head back and forth. The drop hurt a little bit, but she'd live with the slight headache. She raised her hand up in a suspicious, historically accurate position before replying to Sawyer's question. "Uh, yeah, I have a few. What's the challenge, and why can't you guys shut the hell up for once?"
Well... Now she felt bad... Darcy had offered up chocolates, and Mei was being a jerk... Oh well.
"Ooh ooh! Yes please!"
And was that... Those voices... Since when did they decide to follow?
"Hehe, don't worry about it! I'm peeerrrrfectly fine! Oooh, chocolate girl, grab some popcorn while you're there!" Mei called out to the now gone Darcy, lifting her head slightly to look at Idris and Saeko.
Darcy Harper's POV
Wait a minute, did the fire alarm ever go off for Horatia's knife soup?
Why was Dorky's wondering inserted into this post when Darcy had no knowledge of this? Oh, never mind.
She took out some ingredients and got to baking the chocolate. Had she had to be so rude about it?
Darcy did grab something from the kitchen for herself.
...
No, that wasn't what she was looking for.
Sawyer Laurens's POV
Sawyer didn't consider the fact the question literally didn't begin with a question mark, and may have been more of a statement. Whatever.
"Oh, right, kinda backwards today. Basically, you answer some questions, and based off of it, we do certain things for the challenge! Because-- the questions determine it. Yeah. That!"

Idris looked down at his feet. His fingers ached for the familiar feel of a pen between his fingers, the paper he sketched on, or the cool surface of his tablet.
But he didn't long to be back at home, at his usual life. Even though this whole 'Killing Game' sucked, he didn't want to be at home.
Here, he wouldn't wake up to a raging alcoholic screaming at him, would he?
"OOOH! Uhhh- hmm....HOCKEY! I hate hockey!" Saeko exclaimed. "That counts as one, right?"
