Fog groaned as the heat levels rose, he hated hot weather. His energy left him so he couldn't cool himself down with some ice. He lay down in his tent, covers thrown off him as he tried to cool down. No chance of that happening, he thought, It's probably that weird voice thing's doing. A small book suddenly fell out of his rucksack, a book about his homeland. His curiosity peaked, it seemed as if everyone had a book about their homeland too. Fog opened it and read it curiously, and flicked to a page where an old nursery rhyme was show, one that his mother used to sing to him.

Deep in the water
Under the blue ice
A bed of weeds
A soft green pillow
Lay down your head
And close your eyes

He started singing softly, his voice barely more than a whisper. Fog's eyes filled with icy tears as he continued,

And when they open
The moon will rise
Here it's safe
Here it's cold
Here the fish guard
You from every harm

Little ice figures danced around him, showing pictures of him and his family swimming in a snow lake. The scenes shifted and it was him playing with his siblings. The ice figures changed, to him in a cage, surrounded by wicked looking scientists and to him fully transformed, people cowering in fear. Then him running away and waking up in the caves. Then a single, melting figure of DD, who he thought was the most beautiful person in existence.

Here your dreams are sweet
And tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place
Where I love you....

Fog finished singing, tears running down his blue face. He stifled a sob as he curled up in his tent, sweltering in the abnormal heat, overcome with sadness and love.

DD felt sorrowful, having wandered about the cave looking for... something. She wasn't sure why, but she didn't know what to look for. Was there a tunnel? Was, there some secret entrance of some sorts? What could they do to escape?! When she heard Fog singing, her heart went out to him. "He must really miss his home..." she thought. She decided to look through the other intact tents, maybe there was some sort of clue? She pulled one open to reveal...

-wakes up- "Why is it so hot..?" -gets up and dusts off self- "This dang heat is getting on my nerves.." -Sees DD- "Who..are you?"

Fog heard voices speaking and went out of his tent, drying his tears. He saw DD, (which made his heart do a somersault) and she was talking to an unfamiliar looking girl. He went up to them, "Hey, DD...who is this girl?" he asked, unsure on how he should approach her. The heat was beginning to come unbearable now and his gills started to droop. He sighed and looked around the cave for a place to start escaping. There was one tunnel, but there was blood coming from it and whatever lurked in there, he never wanted to see.

A very tall, dark skinned girl. Who was this person and why hadn't they seen her before? Turning to Fog, she said, "I'm not sure, I'll ask her." Turning back to the girl and clearing her throat, DD replied to the girl's question, "My name is irrelevant, but you can call me DD." A little stern now she continued, "But who are you and how come we haven't seen you around?"

Fog laughed slightly, he hadn't heard DD talk in a strict voice since she introduced herself to him. As an afterthought he stood next to DD and added, "Hello, um...my name's Fog...Fog Karaudo. Who are you?" he asked, curious about the new girl. Fog's gills suddenly tensed, he sensed evil around. Suddenly a creature appeared out of the shadows, a grey-skinned winged beast with teeth the size of knives and eyes the colour of blood. It snarled and swooped down, claws extended as it attempted to attack the girls.

Fog quickly created a wall of ice to protect them and shouted at the beast, "HEY! Why don't you pick on someone your own size!" He transformed into his giant, albino axolotl. It stared at the beast with ice-blue eyes and roared. The beast snarled back and extended its claws for another attack. It flew at Fog, and scratched him on the neck. Beast-Fog cried a shrill roar and launched at the beast, pinning it to the ground. With a quick tap of his tail, the creature turned to ice. Fog crushed it with a giant leg and turned around, where the two girls looked at him, mouths open wide. Oh god, he thought, I just transformed in front of them didn't I? . Without another look at them, he turned tail and ran into an opening in the cave, out of sight. The ice wall around DD and the girl disappeared and shards of the now-ice creature littered the ground.

DD...had no words... Fog had transformed into a giant creature. Sure it had been to save them, but...Was this the secret Lady Morain had been alluding to? She then realized something important. Fog had just ran down the bloodied tunnel! Alone!! He could get in danger!! Thinking quick, DD pulled out three black knights, five white knights, and four red castles. Summoning their true forms, she commanded, "My friend has just entered dangerous territory, we must help him!" Pointing out the black knights and three of the white knights, she said, "You six are to stay here and protect Miss Jackie and Lady Morain. If there is one monster here, there are most likely more." Pointing to the castles, who had become House Stewards, she said, "You four are to take care of things here, for I will be away." Turning to the final two white knights, she said, "You two are to come with me to find Fog." The chess pieces called out, "Yes, my queen!" before setting off to their tasks. Satisfied, DD and the two knights headed down the tunnel that Fog had run down, determined to save her friend.

Fog heard footsteps coming down the tunnel. He saw the familiar Knights that DD had. He roared at them, "Go away!" The Knights didn't move so he ran past them, and into the campsite. His giant tail knocked over some some tents as he ran to and fro, trying to find a place to hide in. There was no such place, the Knights were occupying the tunnel and he was in plain sight in the campsite. He looked, scared at DD and the shocked face of the other girl. Beast-Fog whimpered and lay down, covering his face with his webbed hands. Frost spread across the ground as Fog lay there, distraught.

DD felt sorrow as she watched Beast-Fog run to and fro trying to hide before simply hiding behind his...hands?... Even in this form, he was still Fog, the boy she cared about. Slowly, carefully, she made her way towards him, heels crunching over the frost that covered the ground around him.

Fog noticed DD walking towards him and he closed his eyes sadly and whimpered. The beast shifted and snow began to fall. The hot temperature was long gone and a tear ran down his snow-white face. Then slowly, he lifted his face and looked at DD, his eyes full of sorrow. "DD..." he whispered. He thought of how his...crush saw him. Him....a monster.

Gently, DD put her hand on Fog's large head and slowly pet it. His skin was smooth and rather cold, likely due to being a creature connected to snow. "It's alright Fog. Everything is ok." she spoke gently in a soothing tone. "Thank you for protecting us from that monster earlier. You were very brave."

"R-really?" he asked, looking up at DD's pretty face. He transformed back to semi-human, shivering and panting wildly. He sighed sadly and blacked out.

DD quickly caught Fog before he could hit the cave floor. "Really." she whispered, before turning to Jackie and asking, "Do you think you can help me get him back to camp?" They now had two passed out people out of four and they needed to find a way out of the trap they were in.
