Derek blew a raspberry at Rover, then raised his hand to ask a
question. "Yeah, uh, where's breakfast?" His grin grew, his eyes
flashed, and... His stomach growled. "If you're not gonna feed me
before this I'll end up eating Rover instead." He seemed to
be joking. Mostly.
Tundra strode through a clothing distributor in the Food and
Clothing District. She'd been assigned to return home with a new
outfit today. Quiet and shy... so something long sleeved. She held
back her disappointment; her taste in clothing had always been
considered unbecoming by her mother, who thought she would do
better to wear dresses and otherwise-refined clothing instead of
close fitting shirts and torn jeans. Though she was drawn more to
the white variety, she decided to go with a navy sweatshirt, as it
seemed to fit her emotions more. Selecting plain navy jeans and
dark blue flip flops to go with it, she then stopped at a food
outlet to pick up the assigned meal for her and her mother; sushi.
Emersyn walked along the docks ,She saw a man ,It seemed like Felix
to her ,Maybe she was seeing things..afterall she didn't have a
proper Breakfast..She moved ahead ,Now she was pretty sure that was
Felix ,So she called out "Hey Felix!" Hurrying towards him. "How
are you?", She said grasping for Breath
"Derek, you touch my robot and I will personally make sure that you
have a stun gun attached to your head while you sleep." Dooley
grabbed her robot and hugged it tightly. She was rather protective
of her Rover and the next person to even suggest harming it would
get quite the earful. "You should've gone to the Canteen if you
were hungry." She smirked. "What did you do, oversleep?" She blew a
bubble with her gum and popped it loudly.
Derek laughed, then laid back and let his body relax on the ground.
"It's not my fault that little clock stopped working last night.
The alarm didn't go off. And if I'm not mistaken, you made that
clock, Dooley. So technically it's your fault I'm late, so you have
to buy me breakfast somewhere! Ha!" He sat up and, in a single
fluid motion, leapt to his feet. "You know, I saw there was this
new place that opened up on the other side of the city.."
Dooley rolled her eyes. "We're about to ambush a government
shipment, and all you can think about is breakfast? Typical. And I
might just buy you that breakfast, but only if you stop thinking
about it long enough to finish the job." Dooley hadn't even thought
about eating-truth be told, she was a bit of a workaholic and often
had to be stopped so that she could get some sleep or eat. But she
had Rover, and that was good enough. Something flashed in her head,
and she chewed hurriedly until it faded away. Not again..
"Bah, fine. But I'm gonna hold you to that, even after this whole
raid. Remind me when it's coming by here?" He crossed his arms, his
face becoming serious. This was how he acted when he was either
about to do something Marshall had told him explicitly not to do,
or when he finally gave up trying to make somebody laugh. However,
despite his massive size and suddenly assertive demeanor, it was
clear he knew not to make any orders. He still knew where he stood
in the clan.
Dooley sighed. "Finally, getting back on track." She bent down and
poked the projector, changing the images. "According to the
security cameras, they're only just getting ready." She pulled up a
map of the city, zooming in so that it showed the buildings and
roads in a rather 3-D way. "The trip from DL Headquaters to the
South Quater, here, is about 2 hours. That gives us plenty of time
to set up, but we need to use it wisely. She moved the map to City
Hall and pointed to a large street. "This road is closed, so I
think that's our best guess as to where the shipment is going," she
pointed to a large grey building, "especially since that's the
X-Loyalist's dorms are for the soilders that guard this area. If we
head out now, we have a good head start on them and easily have the
advantadge." Dooley's eyes had lit up, and she was completley
focused. This is what she loved, planning and stratagizing. Well,
she adored all things Tech, but this was her leauge.
Derek watched and listened patiently, then nodded. "Well, let's go
kick some -" He was interrupted by Rover, who had made a loud sound
and distracted him. Clenching a fist, he spoke to the robot. "I
swear, if you interrupt me again-" This time, he was cut off my his
own stomach. "Oh, forget it. Let's get moving.
Dooley looked up when Tazu spoke, and couldn't help but laugh.
"Don't want to have to admit you're hungry? All right then, grab
your gear and let's go." She pointed at a table near the back of
the room, surrounded by machines. "But everything you break you
have to pay for." She stood up and brushed herself off. "Rover,
transport mode." The little machine flew to her feet, transforming
into a sort of hoverboard thing, and she immeadiently hopped on.
"I'll be waiting outside, then." She weaved her way through the
machines and through the door.
Derek watched her leave, before muttering, "Show off." After
another moment, he popped his knuckles. "Alright, let's hear up and
move out. We've not for a lot of time." Walking up to his gear, he
started picking up the objects and organizing them carefully in a
backpack.
Tazu also put her stuff (except the goggles, which she had put on
to go around her neck) in a black backpack, which was of a size
that she could wear in her raven form, then headed out.
Dooley was waiting patiently outside, sitting on the hoverboard.
"Took you long enough, come on then." She had her own gear ready
and was spinning the goggles on one finger. "You slowpokes ready to
go crash a government shipment?" Marshall called from the sandy
courtyard, "And you better get on it before I replace you with some
speedier people."
"Come off it, Marshall! We've got a little time to spare!" Pulling
on his paint mask and goggles, he chuckled. "We'd best get going,
then." The large boy bumped Dooley in the shoulder before
shouldering his backpack again. "I still want that breakfast after
this."
Dooley lost her balance and almost fell, but Rover, not wanting him
to have that satisfaction, caught her before she hit the ground.
"Keep that up, and I might reconsider buying you breakfast," she
muttered. Just to get him back, she stood up on the board and flew
around him and all the way to the entrance. "Have fun walking all
the way to the ambush site without help!"
"I'm sure I can jog there and still make it with an hour to spare!"
That was likely true. With his long legs, Derek was a very fast
walker. Starting off at a sprint, he started towards the ambush
site.
"With all the noise you make, you would most likely have half the
X-Loyalists after you before you even got there," she retorted.
Slipping into an alleyway, she quietly made her way between the
buildings towards the ambush site, successfully attracting little
attention save the occasional curious glance from the buzzing
sounds from Rover.
Cryo walked cooly past the power plant on his way to his next
assignment. It was odd to him that his assigned route didn't take
him around City Hall, but he knew better than to question it. If he
recalled, his younger brother had mentioned something about a
coming road closure at dinner the previous night. He clenched his
fist and stared down at the ground. Hilo had also been born with a
mutation, and their parents couldn't have been happier. Aside from
the statistical improbability of there being multiple children with
mutations in one family, this reaction was due to their younger
child having one that was actually useful. Hilo was on track
to become one of the highest ranking policemen in Stockholm City;
he could induce paralysis in others at will. Cryo had once tried
not to be jealous of or hurt by his brother's success or their
parents' favoritism, but that no longer proved feasible. The boy
pressed his palm to his forehead, trying to block out those
familiar emotions.
Tundra stood at the stop for the bus just outside of the Food and
Clothing District. She was glad that her mother hadn't been
assigned to drive her from here to her next assignment today;
spending time in a space as small as their family car alongside the
woman made her anxious. Making sure that her body language was
closed off and unobtrusive, Tundra leaned back against the wall of
the stop, checking her phone to make sure she was on schedule.
