Sign ups

As the car pulled to a stop, Melody quickly opened the car door and hopped out. However, she immeadiently regretted it, as the thin soles of her worn-out sneakers did little to protect against the hot sand. Hadrian, always the drama king, did a little hop-dance as if he was stepping on hot coals. Melody rolled her eyes and Hadrian stuck out his tongue. Ah, sibling love. As Melody's mother, a short plump woman who always dressed in blue, which caused her to look like a bluebird who was constantly chattering directed the movers, and her father helped in his silent, solemn way, Melody looked around her. Her stomach dropped as she realized how boring and plain Princeville was. Every house looked the same, and there was nothing interesting anywhere! Hadrian had a more dramatic but similar reaction. He groaned loudly. "That sign was right!" "What sign?" Hadrian pointed to a faded sign that seemed to have once been colorful and vibrant but was now faded and grey. The thing that stood out was the spray-painted black letters, The Town for Peasants. "I can't help but agree..." Melody sighed. How in the world was she going to survive this?

Stalken stood rigid. The trees in this town were just barely big enough for him to hidebehind (wink), and he watched the passerby, practically invisible. He touched a street lamp with fae like elegance, and flowers bloomed around it, making the light go out. He bolted around the darkness in surprising speed, and bunched up in an alley, his bright blue eyes the only thing visible. He stayed there, the darkness masking his burnt umber bark. He tracked every movement, every word, everything that would be important. He made flowers bloom to pass time, waiting for someone interesting to pass by. He sat in waiting so long vines covered in pink blue and orange flowers were wallpapering the alley, like a beautiful mural. He trailed a finger along the petals, and cocked his beastly head “ah. The Beauty yet insignificance of my powers” he rasped, his voice like surround sound as he rumbled. “Maybe the humans will believe it’s another happy social project” he murmured, picking a blue flower with white petals mixed in “anomalies like this flower. If only I could find any”

Kieran finished off tidying up the garden of a lady's house. He was comfortable doing this job; she'd been more friendly than most when he appeared in town. If she'd seen his ears, she hadn't said anything. Kieran had learned that most humans couldn't spot the difference between a monster and another one of their kind, but he liked to be safe with his hoodie. He collected his payment with a grateful nod, and slinked out the door like a fox, which wasn't far from what he was. As he headed towards his little house, an unfamiliar scent reached his nose. "Huh...." There was a car he'd never seen a little ways down the road. Kieran switched his direction mid step, but stayed off to the side. It wasn't every day the town of Princeville had visitors. He chose to investigate.

Melody looked up. Who was that? She blinked a couple of times. Did he have ears? Nah, it was probably the summer heat messing with her. She thought about helping her mom, but she would just ignore her as always. Hadrian had joined her father. Somehow, Hadrian always knew what to do and say around their parents. Meanwhile, Melody was the complete opposite. So, as she snuck away to try and explore more, no one noticed she was leaving, even though she said loudly, "I'm going to explore!". They simply nodded and ignored her like always. Oh well. Melody was used to it by now. She trudged down the road, occasionally kicking at a rock.

A small family... interesting. Were they here to stay? Judging by the looks of the luggage, his guess was correct. The girl shouted something about exploring, and his canine ears folded back further into his hair from the harsh noise, making them even less visible. He winced. That was just one of many disadvantages of being a were-raccoon dog, or were anything for that matter. He'd rather just be a human or an animal, no need in complicating things by being both. He trudged back home, payment tucked securely in his pocket.

He heard the echo of a rock being kicked, and his blue eyes flared open “what was that?” He asked, branches cracking and vines ripping as he twisted around. “Human? Is there a human?! I cannot let this happen” he groaned, quickly morphing vines and flowers in front him to look like a fence garden, hiding his figure.

Greyfalcon stretched his mighty wings, before looking down ‘new people?’ he thought, before freezing in place to look like a gargoyle ‘never reveal, they won’t hunt’ he grumbled

Melody was sure that she had heard something, but who knew? She was pretty tired. She noticed that someone was leaving, and immeadiently Melody's extroverted personality kicked in. She had spent days cooped up with her family, and she was eager for a new face. Besides, why not try introducing herself, if not to know more about the town? Even though it seemed like they were constantly moving, Melody always tried to know something about each place, even if it was a small detail. She waved. "Hey! What's your name?"

He sighed slowly “good. She didn’t notice me at least” he said, making the vines go back down. He put out all street lamps on the street, and ran back to a billboard, coiling his body and growing in size untill he matched the frame perfectly. He slammed his eyes shut, and waited. If anyone saw him, he was done. His size was intimidating. They would bring fire like the others.

Greyfalcon watched them “good. No seeing” he said out loud, before flying up, and skimming the cloud bottoms, watching the new girl talk to someone else “interesting, making friends allready?” He murmured, curling around and landing in the shadows of a tree near them

Winnie waved goodbye to the librarian as she stepped outside, just in time to hear the sound of a car pulling in. She briefly glanced at the family that owned it: A couple and a girl, probably not too far from her own age. At first, the brunette was unsure whether to go over and introduce herself. She had been told she needed to be more social people her age, after all. However, when the girl yelled, Winnie flinched. She turned around, muttered "Too loud." And started walking back home.

Tony was out on his morning walk about town. His winklepickers skid-skid-skidding across the pavement, kicking the occasional rock or two, taking a long drag on his cigarette here and there. Same faces every day, greeting with an "'Ello there" to whoever was out and about near his path. When he got to the usual dull "FOR SALE" house, however, the first thing that he had noticed was that it was now occupied by a new family. Not an uncommon sight for him, as people had been moving in and out of that house for as long as he could remember.

He stopped to scan the new folks individually. The mother, short and stout dressed in blue. The father, a typical-looking businessman. The son seemed like a helpful and well-mannered kid. But something was off about that girl.

Hyperactive.

Tony merely took another drag on his cigarette and continued walking past, acting like he had seen nothing. However, it was too noticeable that he had stopped to observe.

Kieran's ears folded back further. By this point, they were practically invisible. "Hmm?" He whipped around, a little defensively. "Oh, I'm Kieran." 'No need to talk so loud,' he muttered. "And you?" He'd learned to be careful around strangers. Not everyone was friendly, and some had bad reasons for doing things.

Inwardly, Melody gave a little triumphant, YES! She hadn't scared him off! With her mom's traits, Melody tended to do that a lot. She smiled. "My name's Melody. So, tell me, is it really as boring around here as it seems?" Every second, Melody was trying hard not to panic over every little thing. Was she being too loud? Too rude? Too...anything? She didn't want to mess this up.

There was a fair chance that Melody was just an excited and curious person. Kieran mentally scolded himself about his defensiveness. It was a useful trait to have, but friendliness was one too, he supposed. "It's fine here, I guess. I think theres enough stuff to do, but you might find things.... a little lacklustre," He searched for the correct word.

Melody nodded. "That describes a lot of the places we've lived so far." She jammed her hands into her pockets, rocking back on her heels. She didn't usually do that, it was a nervous habit. And being in a new place, talking to new people, it could make her nervous since she was so desperate to please. Even though she was a naturally extroverted person, her brother usually had a huge group of friends and had participated in at least one theatre club every time they moved somewhere, while no one noticed as Melody dumped her lunch tray and left with the lunch aide every time they got the call to leave school early, since they were moving again. Maybe this time would be different, but then again, maybe not.

"So, why did your family choose to come to this place?" He gestured towards the gloomy looking town, half joking and half asking. He always asked this question, or found out the answer through other means. Kieran thought it was important to know if someone was a threat, and if they weren't, like in this case, Kieran was naturally curious.

Kumei and her mother had arrived in the gloomy town well past the time they planned, but that was the usual for them both. She had always either forgotten something important, broke something, or they just had terrible luck. Kumei’s loud and obnoxious snores filled the car as it parked. Her irritated mother sighed and looked up at the ceiling above, wondering what lead her to come here. “Ku... we’re here...” she mumbled, gently nudging her in hopes of waking her up.

Darreon strummed a tune, a very different one from just moments earlier. It was upbeat, quick, almost something a Mariachi band might play. Turning a corner, his appearance shifted. He'd heard conversation ahead and quickly swapped appearances, turning into the human, boring Darreon. He'd also swapped songs once again, now strumming something slow and quiet. After a moment, the nimble fingers stopped strumming, the fancy tune stopped drifting across the wind, and the disguised daemon stopped walking. He nearly smiled, before quickly correcting himself with a somber, thin line for an expression. He'd walked up to where Kieran and Melody were conversing. "Morning. Err, afternoon?" A moment's pause, then, "I think, just.. Hello.." Darreon glanced at Kieran, an apologetic look on his face. Then, looking at Melody, he smiled. Then frowned. Then apologized, turned, and left. He could be heard quietly cursing himself as he briskly walked away. Serrated teeth had been shown in the smile, and it was clear they were inhuman. It was also clear that was why the man had apologized and cursed himself. Turning the corner once more, Darreon quickly shifted and leapt into the air, making sure to stay under the rooftops. Hitting the ground, the daemon ducked inside an alleyway, sat down, and cursed himself again. "Don't smile like that," was the harsh whisper that filled the alleyway.
Ah, so you, O Mysterious and Curious Soul, have come to seek answers in the abyss?

Do you know what lies beyond?

Do you want to?

Or has your curiosity reached a nervous end?

Ah, it was the... Kieran actually wasn't quite sure what sort of monster he was, but his scent gave that fact away to Kieran. Kieran had seen him busking around town a few times, and considered talking to him, only to always continue on his trek to wherever he was going. If Kieran had been more extroverted, he would have gone back to say hello. He turned to face Melody again, and shifted from foot to foot, waiting for an answer.
