“Because we are dabbling in dark magic...otherwise known as elder
magic, we need to train you, in utilising your thirst for
knowledge. Now...are you prepared? The consequences of dark magic
are quite severe if messed with...”
"I... don't know..." Audax responded. "Theres a lot of things I
don't know, yet. But as I learn, I think I'll be ready for
different things, so when it comes to it, you'll have to ask me
again. And I think I'm ready to begin."
"If you don't have the resolve, you will lose yourself to the
darkness. I'm thankful that I've been able to prevent it and steer
students away before that happens, but the warning still stands.
You need to have resolve and face the darkness that is ahead of
you." Thea said sternly
“Very well...that’s all for today. I will also give you this tome.”
She handed Audax a purple book. “This tome is called Nocturne. This
is the most basic dark magic in the kingdom. All I want you to do
is...to meditate and focus your spiritual energy, and then trying
to read the runes in the book.”
Audax nodded. "Thank you," He slipped the book into his bag. It was
no heavier than any of his other books; so he carried it relatively
well. With another nod to Thea, he trotted out of the classroom and
school. This time, he headed back to his home; to try practicing
what Thea had said.
Audax looked at the book, puzzled. Was it some sort of code to be
deciphered? He remembered his assignment: Meditate, and focus his
spiritual energy (whatever that was). Hmm... Feeling a bit awkward,
he sat down on his couch and tried to clear his mind, like he did
when he tried to sleep. Whenever a thought came into his mind, he
pretended he wrapped it up in a box, and threw it in the sea. It
helped to clear his mind... now he had to hope he was doing this
right and didnt accidentally fall asleep.
Depending on how successful Audax was at meditating...already,
perhaps he could already feel some effect. Something rising within
him...still can't read the tome yet though!
Maybe it was working, then? Audax continued meditating for another
while... how long had it been? A minute? Ten? And hour? It was hard
to tell. He blinked open his eyes again, and looked at the book
pages.
He continued meditating,'throwing his thoughts into the sea' as he
liked to call it... it honestly felt quite calming, after his day
of surprises and new things.
Audax squinted at the runes. They did look... a little different
than before, maybe? He wasn't sure; he would check back in a bit.
For now, he continued meditating
It wasn't so much that the runes had changed but rather his
perception of them. The more that perception changed...the easier
it was to read them. And that was made easier with the fact that he
was slowly getting more in tune with his mana. Of course, even if
you look at them from a distance, these runes were somewhat basic
