Lida bowed her head with a huge smile. "Thank you for the offer. I haven't found a way to close that crack, so the metaphorical door is always open to you and yours." She stood up out of her chair with a big stretch. "I was going out to gather some more books and other supplies I find. You're welcome to come along, it'll just take me a minute to change over."

Eve cocked her head, looking at the crack in the haul. "Hmmm....I may be able to fix that. Not the best, but what about a wall of vines? Perhaps not all the way out there. People would wonder why nothing was growing then suddenly a wall of vines on the side. But perhaps along this line? They could be pulled back during the day to allow light in for both you and their growth. Then allow them down at night. They would at least provide a barrier," she said, her voice softer and more animated as she talked about the plants. "I'll go with you. I can't shift. At least not yet. Maybe I can if I practice. But I don't mind waiting."

"You can't shift? Yet?" Lida chuckled before snapping her neck and popping both shoulders. "As for the wall of vines, I would really appreciate that. As for people wondering about them, let them wonder. If they intrude and mean harm... They won't last long." With the last sentence, her expression sobered leaving no trace of her smile. "Do you think that if more of us die off that those who survive will gain more powers? I'd overheard a small group of people talking about that sort of thing... I wasn't, and still am not too sure what I think about it..." She reached down and picked up her saddlebags holding them over her shoulders, which had started to get broader. "I still haven't learned how to communicate when I change over, so I apologize if I'm not very easy to understand..." With that her smile returned as her face got longer and she bent over, her hands now easily reaching the ground. Slowly her feet and hands fused and became hooves, her back and neck grew long, and she took on the shape of a sleek black Arabian horse with a blaze of white between her eyes. The saddlebags had settled over her back and she whinnied softly.

"Well, I feel like my powers have grown...certainly after I killed off particulatly... unreasonable or handsy people who thought they could take me out," Evangeline shrugged. "I don't want humans to be wiped out. The aliens need to be taken out. But from what I know of how we were before...perhaps it is good there isn't overwhelming numbers of us. As for communicating, we'll find a way," she said, smirking softly. "I'll get some vines going when we come back."

She nodded her large head and snorted softly as she walked out, her hoof falls echoing oddly in the ship. Once outside she raised her nose into the air to sniff a little, glancing back to see if Eve was following before trotting off at a gentle and easy to follow pace. The direction she was heading would lead through the woods into a town a couple miles out.

Eve took off after her, managing to keep up easily. She certainly couldn't outpace Lida but for now, she was handling better then your average human. Years spent living outside in the wild had helped with that.

Lida tossed around the idea of giving Eve a lift ride, however, she seemed to be doing alright. She'd offer if the need arose, for now, she was totally content trotting along. Soon enough the trees began to thin, and through the branches the town came into view. It was definitely a bit overgrown, in the process of being reclaimed by mother nature. Some of the houses closest to the woods had been overtaken by creeping vines and a couple had collapsed. She slowed to a walking pace, her ears perked up and alert, listening for the faintest sound of the aliens. The spire of the library stood out among the buildings, only a few streets down. Parts of the roof were in disrepair, looking as though at one point they had been on fire. The doors hung off of their hinges, making it easy for the horse-sized Lida to get through without issue.

Eve followed, unsure about the city until she realized it was in fact being reclaimed by nature. She smiled, looking around the open space. "This is nice," she murmured, padding after Lida.

With a soft snort, Lida began walking through, treading lightly and picking her hoofsteps carefully so as to not step on rotted wood, or knock into anything. She went over to a specific bookshelf and gently nosed through some of the decaying books. These were books on animals. Most were pretty gross from the weather, but the couple she found were pretty good. She then moved over to another area to look at nature books, everything from camping and wilderness survival to gardening was there. As before, most of it was unusable. She did find a book on edible plants that was in a pile in a corner. She'd pick up the books delicately in her big prehensile lips and put them into her saddlebags, making sure to distribute the weight.

Eve watched her, curiously. She tried to find a book that the other might use. She wasn't sure she could read these. But she recognized letters and smaller words. Looking around, she found little of value for herself. However, she found a couple of backpacks stashed away in a back room. Rummaging through them, she found a couple of notebooks. They were in pretty good condition, safe from the elements. Flipping through one, she found drawings of the aliens. She didn't know what was written around them but maybe Lida could read them. Padding back to the horse, she called, "I think I found something."

At the voice, Lida's ears and head swiveled in that direction before the body shortly followed. She moved over to Eve, her hooffalls barely making noise aside from the faint creak of the floorboards under her weight. She turned her head to get a good look at the notebooks before nodding her large head. Using her lips she lifted the flap of her saddlebag so that Eve could put them inside. She couldn't quite see the writing, but the pictures were of the aliens, even if they were just drawings, she could study them.

Eve place them inside, careful not to bend them or damage any of the ones she had already gathered. "Any place I should check in particular?" She asked curiously.

Lida shook her head and motioned toward the door, she'd grabbed enough books for the moment. She headed out the door and started off a little further into town. She knew there was an apple tree near where the old school was, and by now there should be a couple up there.

Eve followed, her pack spread out to watch for any aliens and to do their own thing. She felt she could take the shapeshifter if needed. But she had absolutely no desire to do any such thing unless needed. This human was different. This woman was different. A kindred spirit. As they approached the apple tree, she smiled softly, guessing what was to come. Sending out a tendril of power, she urged more apples to grow.

She raised her nose to the air and smelled no aliens nearby. She glanced back to Eve to make sure she was still with her, though she trusted this individual, she still wanted to be careful. When she looked back to the apple tree she was slightly startled to see more apples growing. This was an old tree so most of the apples were higher than a human could reach, but not too high for a horse standing on its hind legs. Lida reached her head around and removed her saddlebag to place it on the ground before doing just that. She gently grasped an apple in her teeth, pulled it down, and turned to offer it to Eve.

"Thank you. If you'd like, I can get the others down. Should just take a tap. Gently, of course. She's an older girl. I'm actually surprised she managed so many. She should be feeling more spry now," Eve said gratefully before motioning to the tree.

A rather enthusiastic nod shook the long black mane after Lida had handed off the apple. She walked over and put her saddlebag back on so she could gather some of the apples that fell. If any of Eve's pack wanted apples, she wanted to make sure they got first pick.

Walking forward, Eve gently slapped her palm against the trunk. Not hard, just enough to let the tree know to drop the ripe apples it now bore. A few of the pack came forth to claim an apple but most were left to the girls. Eve helped pick up and pack the them away to eat later.

Lida had spent many an hour practicing this shape, so she was quite good at picking up the apples in her mouth without bruising them, or getting them covered in slobber. Once they had picked up the apples, she looked to Eve as if asking if she was coming back to the ship, or if she had anything she needed to do.

Eve had nothing pressing going on. She spent her days wandering and protecting the land and animals she thought of as hers. After taking a bite of the apple Lida had given her, she stationed herself at Lida's side. "I'm good to go."
