Rose smiled. "If you're so willing to help me, I want to be able to
help you, and it helps me get away from Hunter as well" she replied
as they walked over to her father.
Kovu bowed his head a bit with a smile. ''I can't thank you enough
and offer all the services I can offer.'' He smiled before looking
at Stryke and his cousin.
Kona smiled at Kovu, waved to him and waved towards Stryke before
she left.
Stryke looked at Rose and Kovu, worried over her state. ''Are you
alright?'' He asked worriedly. ''Where did you go? Did you fall
off? What happened?"
Rose sighed. "I'm fine father. I didn't fall off. I rode into the
forest to get some fresh air. I was sitting on a rock when a dragon
flew over and scared off my horse. I promise I'm alright. I even
hid in a bush, but that's not what we came here to tell you" she
said as she glanced at Kovu. "We heard Cyrus talking to Hunter" she
began.
Kovu looked at Rose then towards Stryke with a nod. ''He was
speaking harshly about Hunter becoming the Tribe Leader. Though
Hunter does not care for Rose at all, yet his father truly just
wants him to be the leader. Forcing him.'' He tried to explain to
Stryke the best way he could so he would understand.
Stryke looked at Rose then towards Kovu with a shaking head. ''So
Cyrus is forcing his son to be around you so he can take over being
a Tribe Leader? Yet doesn't care for you?" He looked over at his
daughter.
Rose nodded. "And Ive known this for a little while, but I couldn't
bring it up without someone else hearing it too" she replied. "I
planned to tell you today anyway, but after Kovu came looking for
me, we both heard them."
Kovu agreed looking at Rose with a nod. ''Yes, it was rather
shocking to hear this.'' He sighed. ''Hunter wasn't so kind with
his wording and I will be glad to tell him to back off. I can if
you two so wish? I can tell him to stay away?" He asked.
Stryke shook his head, waving his hand. ''I am sorry, I didn't
think he was a problem. I thought for sure he was a kind boy and
would have made a wonderful Tribe Leader with you dear.'' He looked
at Kovu. ''I can handle it if he bothers you Rose. I don't want him
around you if that is the case.''
Rose nodded. "Thank you father. I know Hunter was forced to be near
me, but he never spoke to me which told me he didn't want to be
with me. I shall let you know if he is forced to be near me again"
she replied. "And, I also heard what mother said about her wanting
the person who kills the dragon to marry me" she said. "I don't
want that. I wont marry someone just because the killed a dragon.
Its not right."
Stryke sighed, glancing down at the ground to hear that Rose knew
what her mother had said. ''Rose, I know it doesn't sound good to
you, but it could be rather beneficial. I do not have too long to
be leader, your mother and I need time to relax...and truly I feel
if we are no longer the leaders she will return to her old self.
Though I refuse to step down and make you leader by yourself
without a husband to help. I do not want you to take on that much
reasonability. However, if this man kills a dragon they will have
the means to defend this village and care for the people. He would
be perfect if he is able to kill our enemies.'' He nodded. ''Though
if Hunter kills a dragon, he will not be your husband....but if
another does and I feel he would be a wonderful husband, Rose I am
doing this all for you. I want you to have a wonderful husband and
a strong one.''

year old hatchling, about when Sarkany hatched. Stayed with Kalores
who adopted him after the loss of her hatchlings. His mother claims
that he is the hatchling of Ratholas. Yet Ratholas has no idea who
she was and has never had a mate in his life. Did not wish to
bother with Kanguard, almost as if he was accepting that he was his
if he did adopt him. Treats him just like the rest, but doesn't
believe he is the father. However, Kanguard does believe that he is
his father after his mother explained how horrible Ratholas was
when he was younger. His mother left actually a few years later
after dropping Kanguard off and explaining that she couldn't be
around Ratholas any longer due to his violent temper.
Rose shook her head. "And what if its someone who has horrible
means for the tribe when I am forced to marry him? I cannot risk
our tribe being in danger to a greedy man and I wont do it. We have
plenty around here ready to protect the village, but none know how
to take care of the tribe the way it needs."
Roda saw Rose near her husband and was almost angry to think that
Kovu would have told her. She walked back to him and their
daughter, looking at Rose with a glare almost. ''What is going on
here?" She asked. ''Where were you off to? I am sure trying to talk
to dragons as that is all you care about. We had an attack last
night and you went off without a care. Foolish.''
Stryke was going to say something to Rose, but Roda had cut him off
completely and put a hand up to him so he wouldn't speak.
Rose glared at her mother. "I wasn't being foolish. I went on a
ride to the forest before you could trap me in the village again. I
was near a herd of yaks before a dragon showed up. My horse took
off before I could get back on to ride home" she said.
Roda crossed her arms. ''Then you admit you were looking for
dragons as the safety of the village isn't good enough for you. I
don't understand why you think running away from the village will
make you a wonderful leader. That is why you have no choice, as you
do not think before you act. You better listen to me and stop being
disrespectful.''
Rose shook her head. "I wasn't looking for the dragons. I was on a
peaceful ride. Nothing more. And I wouldn't be so disrespectful if
you didn't only talk to me when it was convenient for you!" Her
eyes changed to a darker blue showing she was angry. "You never
talk to me unless it benefits you! if you hate me so much then
never talk to me again! And I wont listen to someone who doesn't
care about how her own daughter feels" she snapped before she
stormed off to take care of her horse.
Roda narrowed her eyes as Rose took off. ''I will not have such a
foolish child!'' She yelled after her, looking at Stryke. ''She has
no say in anything. This just gives us an example how she thinks
only of herself.'' She moved away to the house, furious.
Stryke had no idea what to say and looked at Kovu who equally was
silent.
Rose found her stallion by the stables and sighed as she walked him
into the barn to groom him. She quickly put his tack away and
mumbled to herself. "I wont listen to her. She has no right to talk
to me the way she has, even if I am her daughter" she said. The
stallion bobbed his head as though he agreed and nuzzled Rose,
wanting to calm the girl down, though not knowing how.
Sarkany ate a little bit of the yak before she left the cave to
look at their new home. She had never been much farther up the
mountain or really anywhere as her mother is afraid to let her go
anywhere. She was allowed to stay within eye sight and go nowhere
out of it without one of her parents. ''I am just going up the
mountain.'' She warned her mother. ''We're merely at the top! Maybe
I can spot a ledge that can look down at the humans.'' She saw
Kanguard and joyfully went after him. ''Come on! I see you are
finished eating! Ratholas must have brought you up here as we
didn't see you this morning.'' She nodded.
Kanguard shook his head, glancing up at Draig who was eating with
him. ''No, Draig did. I was looking for a cave myself as I can't
stay with your family forever.'' He smiled.
Stryke really didn't want his two favorite people to be fighting
and worried about them equally. ''Kovu, since she is likely mad at
me as well...Can you go to her?" He asked.
Kovu sighed and nodded, walking towards the stable. ''Yes,
sir.''
Sarkany rolled her eyes with a little smile. ''When you are a grown
dragon you can have your own cave. Right now, your my best friend
and brother.'' She moved away to look up again at ledge above.
''Come on.''
Kanguard moved after Sarkany with a little nod. ''Fine. It would be
rather cool to see what we can find. Maybe we can even spot the
humans!"
Kovu moved into the stable, looking around for Rose before finding
her. ''Are you okay?" He asked cautiously.
Rose slowly looked over at Kovu. "Yeah. I'm fine. Just upset at her
for just assuming I would go find the dragons when that's not what
I had planned, at least not today. She doesn't understand me, and
I'm pretty sure she doesn't trust me."
