Agathe raised her face up to the sky and held out her free arm.
"You did good Shaye! Come on down!" She called out up to the bird
who replied with a screech and dove down to pull up and land
lightly on her arm. "Sasha said you can have the head of the fish,
is that enough?" The bird cocked his head to inspect the fish and
he cawed his reply. She giggled and nodded. "He said it will be
plenty, and I think he apologized, or gave the bird version of an
apology for not catching a rabbit."
Sasha shook her head at Shayne. "No need to be sorry, Shayne. You
did your best. Even if Agathe hadn't caught the fish, I would have
been more then happy to share the fruit and veggies we picked.
Thoughn I don't think you'd be content with them. They aren't meat.
I am more then happy to have you at the table as a friend, Shayne,"
she told the bird as she picked up the rest of the fishing
supplies. "Shall we go get dinner started?"
Agathe relayed the message to the bird who chirped and cawed his
reply. "He wouldn't really appreciate the fruit and veggies, but he
would've found his own meal. He thanks you for the offer to eat at
the table, and hopes that we won't take offence to the way he
eats." She chuckled and followed Sasha hoping to not step on her
tail. "As long as you'll teach me to cook, I'll help you get things
ready."
"I am grateful for his help. He spent all that work on finding a
meal to share, I don't expect him to spend more time on finding his
own meal too. And how you eats is just what it is. Hopefully how I
eat isn't weird for you, Shayne. I must seem weird eating with
bowls," Sasha said, seriously. Once she had put the fushing
supplies back, she grabbed the fish to clean it by the beach. To
scrap off the scales and pull out the guts. Though, she could
probably leave those in, bringing them for Shayne.
Agathe followed Sasha around, and wasn't bumping into anything. She
seemed to either be following the trail that Sasha made with her
tail, or she was following the sounds of her voice and movement.
She relayed messages and made sure things were clear for both bird
and friend. "He just asked what you're going to do with the tasty
bits. Honestly I don't really know what he means since I can't see
what you're doing, except I have an idea as to what he just
referenced." Shaye chirped and moved further up her arm to her
shoulder an around to her other arm to be closer to the fish and
the guts.
Sasha giggled, coming to a stop. "Well, I have stopped so I can
scrap off rhe scales. As for the tasty bits, I am going to bring
the whole fish to the temple. I'll gut it there so I can put those
and the head and bones on a plate. Shayne can have anything and
everything he wants from that. I'm going to cut up the fish before
putting it into the brother with the food we picked, sans
strawberries, and let that cook."
Shaye chirped and trilled making Agathe giggle. "He said thank you
again, but he seemed to be having a little trouble forming his
words. I can safely say he's excited, but I can say the same about
myself. What you just said sounds like it'll be very good."
"Aww, I am really happy to have made you both excited. But it's
nothing big or anything. Just...I don't know, me cooking," Sasha
said, blushing as she sucked her head, shyly. "I just...I can't
believe I'm actually talking with people. And yes, Shaye you most
definitely count as people. You are an intelligent being, much like
Agathe and I."
Agathe told Shaye that Sasha considered him a "people", and the
bird ruffled his wings and chirped a reply. "He said that even
though you have no feathers you are like a sibling to him." She
chuckled and held out her arm a bit more so he could stand higher
and spread his wings. He let out a very loud shrill caw and this
made Agathe giggle. "He just announced it to I think the entire
island that you and I are bird friend. If you ever had issues with
birds, consider it gone."
Sasha giggled, standing back up. "Thank you, kind sir. A sibling,
hmm? A big day indeed if I have gained a sibling. He is always
welcome to meals and wherever he would like to go in the temple. I
wish I did have feathers like him. He is such a handsome fellow.
I'm going to lead the way back. If you need any help I will be just
here, within arms reach."
Agathe relayed the comments and Shaye puffed out his chest at the
compliment and chirped. "He said he will give us our space, but is
thankful for the freedom of the temple. He also made a comment that
he can help me around if I need it, since I lack good eyes." This
part made her giggle. "He's not wrong about that."
"A seeing eye bird...somehow, that fits perfectly," Sasha laughed.
"I love it! And am glad he is happy. We'll have to see if we can
make or bring in a good perch and nest for him." Sliding back onto
the marble flooring, Sasha relaxed. Life had changed for the
better. "Would Shaye be willing to act as a lookout? Not as a
permanent job but if he saw someone on the island or a boat nearing
it, if he could let us know with a call or something, I would
really, really appreciate that. A heads up to when people come to
attack would be good..."
"I think if we gave him a spot he would want to make it himself...
That way he fits it just right." Agathe then asked Shaye Sasha's
question and he chirped his reply. "He said he would. When he's not
with us and while he's out flying he'll keep an eye on the sea."
"I was thinking that myself. At least the nest part," Sasha agreed.
"Thank you...oh, I could hug him right now but will refrain. I
don't know how well that's go over." She made her way over to the
kitchens, settling down rhe fish before grabbing what she would
need to flat the fish and put Shaye's meal in.
"Could she hug you?" Agathe asked Shaye who cocked his head and
cawed softly. "Sasha, hold out your arm. Other than that, don't
move." Once Sasha held out her arm, Shaye flew over and landed
gently on her forearm before carefully walking up closer to her
shoulders and nudging her jaw with his head. "He said that his kind
don't hug, but they do do whatever he's doing to you."
Sasha watched his wide eyed, thankful that her snakes stayed put.
One of them, not the bitter, to her relief, reached out to nuzzle
the bird. "Well...I...I'm honored and beyond grateful...thank you
Shaye, and Agathe!" She said softly.
Shaye chirped and flew back to Agathe's arm who repeated Sasha's
words. "He says that you have done him good, and that you earned
it." She lost it and started laughing. She'd always loved
interacting with birds of prey. Each species a very proud race.
Sasha laughed. Her day had made such a drastic turn, she couldn't
help but laugh along to Agathe's infectious laughter. "Oh, good! I
hope I can continue to stay in his good books." Continuing on, she
made quick work of disecting the fish and setting out Shaye's share
before getting the water in the pot. "Agathe, would you like to try
cutting the celery? I'll show you what to do and then you can give
it a try. I think you have a good idea of where your body is in
reference to the things around you so cutting, while needing
practice, should be something we can do together."
"I don't think it'll be too hard to do that, especially since I can
help you communicate." Agathe smiled, happy to have made someone
laugh. It was something that rarely happened. "Until I'm
comfortable with the knife, I think having you there would be a
good idea. Shaye, I'll need both my hands for this." He cawed and
flew up to perch on the top of a column so he could watch.
"Do...should I stand behind you?" Sasha asked shyly. "My tail might
brush against you...it's not really different from snakes or
lizards. It's just...different from normal human people. Not that
I'm human...but it could still bug you or something," she babbled.
