"As am I," Agathe stood beside Sasha and held out her hand and
nodded. "Okay. I won't do anything until you tell me to." She
wanted to make sure she did everything right and didn't get anyone
hurt.
"That was my plan. To guide you through the motions. Okay, here is
the hook," she said, guiding Agathe's hand once she had the pool.
"I typically fish with worms. So you have got to hook the worm on
the hook. I'll hook it then you can feel what it feels like," Sasha
said, grabbing a worm beforr doing as she said. "Here it is."
Guiding What he's hand back, she placed the hooked worm in it.
Agathe made sure to move her hands slowly so she didn't impale her
or Sasha on the hook. She felt a bit bad for the worm, but she
couldn't hear its' voice, so that was a bit better. "Thank you,"
She said as she did things right.
"You're welcome. Now comes the hard part. You've got to throw the
line into the water. If you pull it back like this," she said,
coming to stand behind Agathe. She swing the pole back slowly with
her. "Then jerk it fast out to the side and forward like this,"
Sasha said, slowly swinging through the motion with her before
pulling back against and actually casting the line.
"Whoa..." Once the line was cast Agathe giggled. "That felt and
sounded funny..." She was grinning, and was already feeling the
line for a fish. "It should feel like a pull right? Because the
fish would have tried to grab the worm, but would have gotten both
the worm and the hook right?" She was trying to understand the idea
of fishing so that she could apply the idea and know what she was
doing.
"Exactly right. Sometimes they nibble or just nudge it. If you feel
a lot of small movements, they might have eaten the worm. So we
just have to be careful of that. If you do think you have a fish on
the line, reel it in with this," Sasha said, putting her hand on
the reel.
Agathe nodded and kept her hand on the reel, but moved a finger so
she could rest it on the line. "Okay. Do you think giving it a tug
when I feel something would hopefully keep them from swallowing the
hook?"
"It could but it may lodge in their gills or lip. But that is
easier to get out. It could be painful for them though," Sasha
said, sliding towards the water. She couldn't help but be drawn to
it. The water called to her with Poseidon's blood running through
her veins. She wasn't a demigod but close to it.
"Well, we are going to eat them, so perhaps we can kill them before
we remove the hook?" Agathe lightly jiggled the pole to move the
worm. "Pain is just something to remind us that we're alive." She
commented absentmindedly as she focused on the line.
"As long as they are big enough. I tend to release any that are
under ten inches long. I try to kill them as quickly and painlessly
as I can. That is a good point, though. It isn't fun but a lot
better then being dead," Sasha agreed.
"Uhm, you're gonna have to be the one to measure since I'm not very
good at eyeballing it." Agathe chuckled at the joke. That's how she
usually tended to be, not letting her disability get the better of
her. She jumped slightly as her line moved and she gave a small tug
and it started to go crazy. "I GOT SOMETHING!" She shouted as she
grabbed the reel and started to pull it in. Her feet sunk into the
sand several inches as she clung to the pole as the fish on the
other end went nuts.
Sasha had chuckled at the joke then hurried over to her side to
help however she could. "Keep on reeling it in. I'm going into the
water to check on it when it gets close enough. If it's big enough,
I'll tell you. Then I'll kill it quickly and unhook it. Give it
some line if it feels like the line will break. Better to let it
tire itself out then let the line snap and it swims off with a hook
in it's mouth."
"Okay," Agathe grunted as she let out some of the line and then
pulled in a little. This pattern continued for a minute until she
could reel in more than she let out. "It seems like it's coming
in!" She called out not knowing where Sasha had moved to. She
didn't want the fish to bite her or to get Sasha caught in the
line.
"Yes, it appears so. Doing good! I've got a net and am going to
catch him when he is close enough. If he's big enough, I'll kill
him fast. If not, I will get the hook out. Do you want to hold him
in the water if he's too small?" Sasha asked, getting ready to
catch him as she watched the water.
"If it's safe for me and the fish, then yes, I'd like to hold him
if I can." Agathe said through a clenched jaw as she fought the
fish to bring him in. Soon enough the water began to show signs of
the fish still fighting a bit. It seemed to be a decent sized fish.
"He's plenty big enough. Unless you'd like to hold him alive now,
I'll go ahead and finish him. You can still hold him after if you'd
like," Sasha said, scooping the fish into the net.
Agathe stood for a moment before shaking her head. "No, you can
take care of him. I don't want him freaking out right before being
killed..." She took a deep breath and steadied her hands that were
shaking from the strain of pulling in the fish.
"Sounds good," she said. A quick twist and Sasha had ended the
fishes life. She replaced him in the net before pulling out the
hook and heading to Agathe's side. "I am going to replace tbe
hook."
"Okay." Agathe took another deep breath and chuckled. "I don't
think I've struggled like that in a long time." A loud cry came
from the air as Shaye started circling above them. "Huh, he said he
found some rabbits, but couldn't get one. We have the fish, do you
think that'll be okay?"
"I think so. He is a decent sized one and with the other stuff we
picked, we should have plenty of soup for the three of us. And he
is welcome to whatever we don't use of the fish. I typically don't
eat the head. I put it out for scavengers or fish in the water,"
Sasha said, hooking the hook back around the pole.
