Faolan positively beamed, tugging her in close as they walked. Once in the kitchen, he pulled out a chair for her to sit in. Hecate was already seated next to her beloved Nathana. Azazeal was still attempting to steal morsels to eat. Stella looked up as they came in and walked over.
"Khaalida! I was hoping I could ask you about something important," Stella said, smiling at the woman. "It has to do with what Death did."
Khaalida started to sit when Faolan pulled out a chair for her, but as Stella called out her name she shot right back up. "What do you want to know?" She didn't really want to bring it up, seeing as she'd be sitting there at the table not eating while everyone else was, she didn't want it to have more attention brought to it.
Nathana held one of Hecate's hands, her thumb lazily stroking along one of Hecate's fingers.
Stella smiled softly, almost shyly as she said, "I just wanted to let you know I will be taking over as the sole goddess of death. And if you'll let me, I'd really like a chance to undo what he did. And give you your health and immortality. So that you don't have to survive off of blood if you don't wish to. But I won't force this on you. I want your okay, your say so before I attempt anything. For now, just know you are safe."
Faolan watched, hope for Khaalida surging. She wouldn't have to have this curse plague her and make her feel bad anymore.
Hecate smiled, nuzzling her neck and whispering soft sweet nothings.
"You can fix me?" Khaalida croaked out, her voice cracking. She could stop needing blood, she could stop taking lives, she wouldn't have to live off of others. "Please," She took a step towards Stella looking like a child would when they've finally made it home after getting themselves lost. "I don't want to have to kill anymore..." She managed to retain her pride and tears, but her voice was reduced to a whisper.
Nathana looked up to Khaalida and Stella relief settling over her. "Though she never needed fixing, she makes it sound as though she was broken..."
Stella smiled, holding out her arms for the young woman. "Never again," she murmured. "You do not have to suffer from the pain he caused. Come here, child. I'll make it right," she said softly, her voice pulsing power. But it wasn't cold or malevolent. It was warm and comforting. Like a mother's hug in the dark after a nightmare.
Faolan smiled, looking overwhelmed but happy. "She never needed fixing. She's perfect," he whispered in response to Nathana.
Hecate nodded, giggling. "She is wonderful. And you two are adorable together."
Khaalida stepped into the hug, her heart almost hurting with the anticipation. She was going to be freed of the curse she'd lived, no, survived with for decades. She'd be able to be like the others and eat regular food. She wouldn't have to refuse Melez's cooking. She would truly be free.
Nathana kept her giggling to a minimum so as to not spoil the moment. "I have to agree with Hecate, you two are very cute as a pair."
Stella hugged her, whispering something in her ear. It was ancient and powerful. Her own, dead language. Of course Death would now pull her power from the words of her dead language. Smiling, Stella added a little more to the spell, letting Khaalida's dead parents embrace her and help with the spell to reverse the adverse effects of their deal with the past death.
Faolan blushed but puffed out his chest, happy.
Khaalida could feel her mother and father holding her and she tried to hug them back, though she only held Stella a little firmer. She hadn't noticed that she'd begun to cry, but all of the emotions that were flooding through her were a bit much to try and control. "Father... Mother..." She whispered, she could feel them, they were so close, perhaps they could feel how much she missed them...
Nathana grinned and went back to her snuggling with Hecate to allow the couple their moment.
Stella told the young woman that they loved her dearly, were so proud of her and happy she'd found someone who made her laugh. After a moment, the spell finished and the spirits of her dead parents left the room, leaving a lingering aura of love and happiness around Khaalida. Stella squeezed her once, whispering, "You are under my protection, honey. And anyone who messes with you is messing with me. I protect you all. You are all family." Then she stepped back, letting Faolan swoop in and swing her around joyously.
"How do you feel, Lida?" he asked, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Hecate grinned, kissing Nat. "I'm so happy," she whispered.
Khaalida laughed as Faolan swung her about, her arms holding him tightly. "Alive," She was crying tears of happiness and relief. "I feel alive," She tilted her head to kiss him smack dab on the lips. She'd later try to think of some way to thank Stella properly, perhaps with a gift, but then what gift does one give to the now sole goddess of death?
"As am I," Nathana replied, returning each and every one of Hecate's kisses.
Faolan laughed, dipping her into a highly romantic kiss. "You were always alive, my dear rose. From the moment I met you, you've been the most alive being I've met. You definitely look happier," he told her, grinning.
Stella grinned, enjoying the scene. Azazeal put his hand that wasn't wrapped around his bride on his mother's shoulder, squeezing lightly. "Oh! Khaalida, I could not and would not remove your healing factor. That was the original gift of your parents and I believe you still very much need it."
Hecate smiled, snuggling into Nat. "Hopeless romantic in me is singing. Now for those two..." She whispered to her scaled girlfriend, looking over at the two men who'd just come in.
"I am happier," Khaalida said with a smile, her tears finally stopped, but the wet trails down her face still remained. "Much happier," She felt warm and full of energy. She looked over to Stella and only separated from Faolan to hug the goddess tightly. "Thank you,"
Nathana hummed as she looked over to the two males in the doorway. "I think I see what you mean," They were still holding hands for one, and for two just the way they interacted. Zorn was more of the lovesick puppy, and Zach still seemed to be falling.
Stella smiled, hugging her back just as tightly. "You are so welcome. I should have done more before...should have seen past him and his abuse...thank you for letting me make it right."
"They are certainly something to keep an eye out for. I am not going to push them but keep an eye out. Check in on," Hecate murmured, smiling at Nathan before kissing her.
"It all worked out, I guess fate might be cruel, but in the end it played things right." Khaalida let go and wiped away her tears before she gasped as Melez brought a large bowl of the curry chicken with onions in, and the breaded steak with rice and beans being carefully held in her wings. "I can eat..." Melez set the dishes on the table and glanced between Khaalida and Stella. In an unspoken question she found the answer in Khaalida's expression. Stella had righted the wrong done to Khaalida by Death.
Nathana nodded and gave her one more quick kiss. "Food's here," She chuckled, her stomach gurgling quietly.
Drayce walked over to Melez and asked her something in a whisper. She nodded and served two large plates of food before handing them to the dragon who retreated back into the tunnels. "Drayce has invited us to come visit after the meal, there's something we need to see he says, nothing bad, but something important." Melez grinned excitedly, she knew what they'd be seeing.
Faolan smiled, holding out Khaalida's seat. "Come here, Lida. Enjoy this amazing meal. You won't be disappointed," he said, then watched Drayce, curious. He had an idea as to what exactly it was.
Hecate licked her lips, nodding. "Oh yes. Go ahead, Khaalida. You go first!" She, too, watched Drayce before grinning excitedly. Had Eona had the eggs already? Oh! That'd be a sight!
Azazeal watched Drayce head back, holding out a chair for Melez. "That so? Well, we'd best start enjoying this delisous food, then."
Khaalida scooted over and sat down before looking over at Hecate. "Go first? We can't all just eat together?"
Nathana chuckled. "This is an occasion! You take the first bite Khaalida, this is your first real meal in a long time, so you first." She wasn't sure what she was more excited about, Khaalida's first meal, or the eggs. It was probably a close tie but little baby dragons would be terribly cute.
Melez served Khaalida's plate first then everyone else's before her own. "Yes, I agree, Khaalida, you start."
Khaalida sighed in defeat, a smile on her face as she took a forkful of the chicken and onions and took a deep whiff of it before putting it in her mouth and chewing. She could have cried again. After tasting nothing but blood for over a hundred years, what she was currently eating tasted like ambrosia to her. She hesitated before swallowing, the habit of not eating solid food still nagging at the back of her mind. "Melez, I don't think I can fully explain how this tastes..." She grinned, her canines a normal size.
Hecate smirked, happy the woman got first bite. She leaned into Nathan's, enjoying her own first bite.
Faolan put an arm around Khaalida's shoulders and smiled. Khaalida got to eat food again! She no longer had to fear hurting people. Things were looking up.
Azazeal leaned into Melez, kissing her temple. "I love seeing you happy," he whispered. "I have a feeling you are about to be overjoyed."
Nathana began eating after she watched Khaalida and kept her giggle to herself.
Khaalida turned to give Faolan a quick kiss on the cheek before she resumed eating the rest of her first meal. There would be so many other things to try! And she had family and friends to try it all with.
"I'm glad you like it Khaalida, and I'm honored that it's your first." Melez nodded to Zach, knowing he could hear her thoughts. Of course, "Oh I know i will be, I'm gonna be an auntie," She chuckled and ate her meal.
Hecate couldn't help but giggle at Melez's happiness at being an aunt. "I am so excited!"
Faolan took his own small bites, leaning in to paint a picture in Khaalida's head. "We can go out foraging together and try all sorts of fruits, nuts and vegetables. I am not a master chief but maybe we can learn to cook together."
Azazeal kissed her cheek, chuckling. "Little baby dragons...can't wait."
