"Aww." Copper whined.
Sliuril clapped her hands over the basin. A few moments later, its energy signature was once again masked. "So out of all Seven, only three of us are currently active - you, me, and Draugnur."
"I guess you're taking it, then?" Copper asked. "I suppose we could fight over it, but I'd lose."
"I know." She replied, eyes beginning to glow gold. "But it only says that the bowl can't be moved from the pedestal, which is fused to the ground. No one said I couldn't just take everything."
She muttered a spell, and the pedestal - and the ground in a seemingly bottomless, perfectly round hole beneath it - disappeared. Sliuril didn't move for a few seconds, feeling her breath coming in short and the telltale dizziness of having used too much magic.
"Well, let's go. We still have an AI to track."

"Of course you are." he muttered, glancing wearily at the others and then the hole. "Do I want to know?" he asked.

Sliruil winced. "Yeah, well. Better carrying it around in a pocket dimension than letting Draugnur win, don't you think? I'm sorry you missed everything, but there wasn't anything fun." She added to Didact. "Just a corpse, but Faith already ate that."
"Seconded." Glaurug quipped, walking past Didact. "Say, how to we track down Cortana now?" He added, halfway back to the surface.

Jack emerged outside and began walking towards the Cryptum. Beowulf hesitated for a moment before lowering the ramp to allow him to board. It seemed like the AI would be getting used to these new people on what he resolutely thought of as 'his' ship.

The Immortal shrugged. "I suppose we could try syncing the tracker I placed in the chassis, although I don't entirely believe that Cortana would have allowed it to remain within her body for so long. Are there any nearby Temples we could use? Or, better yet, Didact, is your ship connected to-"
((Say, how did they track Cortana? I do sort of need her to activate the Guardians.))

Didact hesitated. "Well. Yes?" he said. "Kind of. You are aware that this was re-purposed as a prison ship, right? The connection is weak. But," he shrugged, "if anyone can use it, it should be you guys." he said.
"Yeah, because you're just bad at it." Beowulf interjected.
"Shut up." Didact replied.
"I love this working relationship you two have." Jack said. "It must be really healthy for you to spend all your time in this enclosed space with each other."

"Remember when you didn't even know what a keyboard was?" Faith asked, grinning.
"That was a long time ago." Sliuril muttered. "And I was mortal. What did you expect?"

"He's aware we could kill him, right?" Jack whispered.
"He's aware that he would be in no position to do anything about it if you decided to do so." Beowulf hissed back.
"I can hear you." Didact muttered.

"Of course, Copper." Glaurug answered, joining Copper. They slipped outside. He helped Copper climb up onto the top of the cryptum. The Immortal then removed one of the access panels on the craft, exposing much of the underneath mechanism. She stared in befuddlement at them for some time - her original design was recognizable beneath the modifications, but only barely.
"Don't worry." Sliuril reassured. "You're usefulness is mostly making up for the annoyance."
"Mostly." Faith added, not entirely joking.

Jack muttered something that sounded suspiciously like 'were you so lucky'. He had moved away from his study of the displays and had once again sat down with his back against a wall, one arm draped across a raised knee while the other one tapped a small rhythm out on the floor of the ship.

"<You know, you've gotten a lot better at this engineering stuff since we last met.>" Copper told Sliuril, making sure to include the other Immortals and Jack. She also threw out a line to Didact, although Copper wasn't entirely sure the Forerunner could mentally communicate the way they did.
"<I suppose I wanted to atone for what I did to you.>"
"<It was entirely unnecessary, and far more emotionally driven, then?>"
"<I suppose.>"

"<Excuse me, what the->"
"<Mental communication.>" Jack told him directly. "<Considering the fact that you seem to be able to communicate via your mind now that those areas of it have been touched, you'll probably end up getting used to it.>"
There was no direct response from Didact, just a general set of thoughts that were loosely curious, questioning and confused. Already mixed in with that was also a wondering at what this newly discovered skill could be used for. Jack switched back to sending out his thoughts to everyone.
"<Emotionally driven Immortals. Because that's never gone wrong before.>"

"<Focus, Didact.>" Sliuril instructed him, sending a string of further instructions to erect a basic ward around his mind. Now that his mental capabilities had been awakened, there was a good chance that he would be constantly leaking thoughts into his surroundings without some sort of ward - not something she enjoyed.

"<Like this?>" he ventured after a while, glancing at Sliuril. However, it was Jack who grunted in approval.
"Quick learner." he said out loud. "You've focused your thoughts. The next step would be to send them only to those you wish to receive them as opposed to... y'know... the world."
"<Oh, is that what I'm doing?>"
"<Yes.>"

"<Yes.>" Copper, Glaurug and Faith deadpanned at the same time as Jack and each other.
Finally, Copper and Glaurug re-entered the ship.
"I think we should be able to look for Cortana's tracker, now." Copper said, sitting herself at one of the interfaces once more.
She scowled, though, as soon as the results popped up. "No, that's ridicious..." She muttered, trying to refresh the results. Then, she had the query resent to be sure.
"It says here Cortana has disabled almost all UNSC AI-enabled servicess... by getting them to join her cause." Copper muttered. "Thats... and she has a Guardian."
"Where?" Sliuril asked.
"The one underneath Mt. Sinai."

"<Sorry about THAT.>" he said to everyone.
"Ow." Jack said once the ringing in his ears had faded. He was faintly aware that Copper had said something quite important and, if asked to do so, he could have repeated the sentences word for word. However, he hadn't got the chance to fully process them and could already feel the headache coming.
"Oh, gods... er... saving your presence, of course, I'm so sorry." the Didact said apologetically. Even he had felt the force with which the last word had been delivered.
"Did anyone else feel that bird fall out of the air?" Jack asked, rubbing his temples.
"Seriously, I- I don't know what-"
"Probably an entirely blameless bird-"
"I just suddenly..."
"...little bird children and a little bird wife, they mate for life as well, don't they-"
"Shameful is what it is." Beowulf interjected, having already charted a course for the mountain and brought the ship around to bear.
"He should be put up in front of the International Bird Court of Justice-"
"There's no such thing." Didact said, somewhat defensively.
"A lot of things have changed, you were asleep for a long time." Jack shot back, enjoying himself before he got back to business.

"It's fine." Faith grumbled. "No one was harmed outside of us. Ow."
"Jack, cut it out." Copper muttered.
"He deserves it." Glaurug argued.
