"Yes, well, I'm just going to go be a visiting wildcard over here." Jack said, stepping away from the Didact. He got the feeling that being too close to him for any extended period of time wasn't a good life choice.

Cortana and Glaurug, along with the dragons, looked up as the Cryptum approached. Several score of newly constructed Promethean forces also looked up at its approach, hissing in anticipation.
"Well? Go and lead my forces to victory, crow." Cortana said, smirking.
Glaurug took to the skies, wings blazing a bright orange trail. Several hundred promethean winged knights buzzed after him, filling the skies with the humming of so many wings beating at once.
"Incoming!" Draugnur pulled away, flying up and delivering a fireball to the first arrowhead formation that formed.

"Locked." The AI replied.
"Fire at will." The Forerunner said.
Jack nodded. "Drop the ramp." He ordered. Didact complied. After a moment spent studying the formation on the Cryptum's displays, Jack jumped out of the ship, Sword of Aeons appearing in his hand.

Faith rolled underneath the ship, barreling into some of the forward units. The were smashed against her suddenly three ton bulk, and veered off course to begin firing. These shots were negated by her armor, the few that passed bouncing more or less harmlessly against her scales.
The fliers had even less effect on Draugnur, who was surrounded by a dozen spiraling arrays. They shot out beams of purple energy, which seemed to disintegrate anything they touched.

The Cryptum was firing a steady volley of projectiles into the attacking force. Didact was stood in front of a large monitor, watching the battle. He would occasionally tap on any enemy that seemed to be getting into a good position and the ship's weaponry would quickly take it out. At the same time, he carefully observed the fighting technique of the others.

Glarug stalled mid-flight, briefly getting blown away by the aftershock of one of Jack's beams. There was a massive headache bugging him, and it only grew worse by the minute. He couldn't even cast in this condition, let alone fight.
"Retreat!" He shouted, and the Knights began disengaging.

"They're moving away." Jack intoned as the Knights began retreating. "Press the advantage for as long as you can, but don't let them lead you away." He said, firing off bolts to take down Knights but not giving actual chase.

The flying knights finally retreated into the fortified Temple, and several ordinary Knights entrenched in battlements opened fire upon the party.
The Temple was an amazing sight to behold - a ten meter wall stood, with fully automatic turrents and Knights at every available surface. The wall bristled with crawlers, the ground teeming with explosives where trenches were absent.

"Is there any way we could remote start those explosives?" He asked.
"I could shoot at them." The Didact offered.

"Absolutely not, that would affect the humans here." Draugnur cut in. "Leave natural disasters as a last resort, genius."
"Fine. Didact's plan can be used." Copper agreed. Their advance began to slow down as they neared the Temple. More and more knights were gathering along the walls, the trenches bristling with their weapons.
A mechanical dragon shrieked as it flew over the battlements, headed straight for the party. It's brother followed it. Their calls filled the air and bounced off the valley walls, echoing over and over.

Jack had looked up to see the missiles being fired but had now gone back to fighting, firing lances of energy at the enemies manning the temple.

"Sliuril!" Copper called out. "Get me to an access panel!"
"Are you kidding me-" Sliuril muttered, raising a shield to block incoming fire.

"Didact, clear a path." He growled.
The Cryptum's turrets retargeted to enemies directly in his path.

Sliuril regrouped with Copper, who had an entourage of Promethean Knights by her side. They were ineffective against the sheer number of their brethren filling the air. Knights began firing from where they had dug in, plasma bullets filling the air. Sliuril dropped her own shield for a more energy-efficient redirection spell, simply allowing the blasts to curve away from them.
Cortana growled, seeing how the battle was progressing. Glaurug had proven as ineffective as she had feared for this battle, no doubt his true loyalties were interfering. She would have to eliminate him soon. As an Immortal, he was naturally a liability anyways.
Cortana turned away, using the chassis' powers to open up a portal. This battle was lost - time to leave.
A dragon headed for Jack, sparks of electricity between its mouth. The other headed for Sliuril and Copper, who were fighting through the mob to try and get to one of the nearby access panels.

"Err... there's a few more dragons down there now." Bowupf said. Didact nodded.
"Target the ones that aren't with us." He said.
"What a disappointing order." Beowulf muttered.
"Hey, that's what I said when they had you commissioned." The Forerunner replied distractedly, watching the guns open fire on the two dragons.

Faith twisted in the air to avoid one of the dragons, which charged right at her. Draugnur fell upon it with all his wrath, beams slicing off a large chunk of the dragon's left wing. It began to fall, even with the limb slowly being reassembled by the builders. At the lest moment, the mechanism fired its thrusters and veered sharply away from the ground, knocking a stunned Draugnur with its bulk.
The other dragon tucked in its wings, firing thrusters at maximum to slam into Jack and evading the ice blast. It disengaged as quickly as it could, bellowing its challenge.
Sliuril and Copper slowly but surely made their way through the throng of enemies, the Elf's double shielding and Copper's Prometheans clearing the way. No matter how many they killed, though, more would swarm and those not destroyed thoroughly enough would be rebuilt in a matter of seconds. Their hasty advance had left them stranded from the main force. Finally, they made it to one of the few intact access panels. Copper hunched over the holographic displays, rapidly typing in commands.

"Doesn't look too good down there." Didact muttered, watching the battle. The Cryptum was focusing on the largest targets, trying to remove the major threats first. However, the cannons were yeilding very limited results.
"Oh, to hell with it." He muttered. "Start firing missiles." He said.
Beowulf nodded. 'Aye, missiles away."
Didact watched half a dozen plumes of smoke approach either dragon.

Draugnur roared and shot a fireball at the dragon, before a dozen additional arrays materialized around him. His eyes began visibly trailing purple smoke, all his arrays charging up. He abandoned all pretense of defense and focused nearly thirty large beams at the dragon, firing all at once. The dragon resisted, at first. Then the overwhelming force of the magic began to wear down it's armor, and soon it had been burned away. The explosion that should have happened was washed away by Draugnur's attack, continuing down to the ground and destroying a good amount of ground before he stopped.
Sliuril watched as Copper finally cracked the access code. The temple lit up brilliant orange and began deactivating, the Knights doing the same.
Glaurug landed with a loud thunk next to them, half a wing blown off from the aftermath of one of Didact's canons.
"Copper?"
"Crow."

"That," Jack said, getting to his knees, one hand in the ground to steady himself, "sucked."
Didact saw the Knights deactivating and the temple light up and guessed what was going on. 'Bring us in to land." He told Beowulf. "Let's have a look around that temple." The Cryptum began descending.

Copper continued tapping into the holographic display. Builders began cleaning up the remains of the battle, dismantling the Knights back into their base components and assimilating a few into Copper's private repertoire of soldiers. She also granted access to Didact, mainly because she didn't want to know how durable the Cryptum really was. The battlements and weapons disappeared, also becoming dismantled.
Finally, she turned to face Glaurug.
"Crow."
He didn't twitch from his kneeling position.
"Glaurug."
Glaurug looked up, half crying.
Copper sighed.
"It wasn't your fault. You couldn't have known."
