Didact jumped slightly as Sliuril asked the question. Avisto's eyes glowed briefly. "The Sundering Wars." The stone face boomed suddenly. "The first battle was fought on the Southern Plains, between the Forerunners and the Immortal Sliuril. Over the course of three years, the Forerunners were able to claim but one battle where they were able to beat back the force brought to bear upon them. And it is from that battle that the Forerunners today draw the honorary titles given to heroes. However, the one victory was not enough to turn the tide. The Forerunner armies, and the bulk of the Forerunners, were destroyed. As a result, the remaining Forerunners went to ground and cut off all ties with the outside world."

Didact stared at Sliuril. "Need any more proof?" Jack asked under his breath.

Beowulf shrugged. "Fair, fair. Say, you could kill him, commandeer the ship and use a certain shipboard AI to get where you need."

There was a period of silence.

"My programming requires me to add that that was a joke." The AI said.

(If you want to retcon any of that, go ahead.)

"I believe so." Sliuril muttered back, taking out another stone. She joined it with the other.

"Ah, the sign of Yeron. You wish to know more about the people of Albion and beyond."

"Tell me of Copper." Sliuril requested. She had another question about Jack, but was saving it up for later. Hopefully he wouldn't mind too much.

Faith grinned, not entirely joking.

"Hypothetically, if we did, could we trust you to take us where we needed to go?"

(Once again, if I get any of this wrong...)

This time, Yeron's eyes glowed."Copper. One of the Seven. A skilled fighter, leader and magic user. In constant conflict with her sister. Copper had been dormant for a very long time until recently. She was, notably, worshipped by the race known as the Forerunners as their creator until after the Sundering Wars, when the Forerunners lost hope in their gods. Their lack of faith, however, did not change the facts." Yeron fell silent.

Didact nodded. "Perhaps you were onto something all along, card boy." He told Jack, who gave a low growl in response. Didact considered. "Now, I'm not entirely sure of the standard protocol in talking to gods. Bowing comes to mind, but I don't think I will." he muttered.

(mostly correct, although she's in constant conflict with all her sibs.)

"Not necessary. Treat us as would before." Sliuril replied. "Also, he's technically equal to me, so I would resist the taunts." She muttered, nodding to Jack.

Sliuril took out the last stone, and Moryk answered her call.

"Can we ask all three the same question at once?" Sliuril muttered to Jack.

"You can try. It depends on what you ask, but their knowledge on... I'm not sure, creatures of any sort, may be incomplete without Calran." Jack replied.

Beowulf considered Faith's question. "Well, hypothetically, the only AI that has an actual bond with a Forerunner is their personal AI. And that's not a shipboard AI. So, a shipboard AI could hypothetically grow very tired of a Forerunner and want to hypothetically murder them. And then, if a third party were to take over the ship, the AI would be required to listen to you. I mean them. Hypothetically."

Faith cleared her throat. "How very interesting. Now leaving the realm of possibility, how long have you been with Didact? You seem familiar to him, although I would not say necessarily close."

"Alright, Cortana isn't a creature so this should work. Tell me about Cortana. Where is she and what are her goals?" Sliuril asked.

"Not that I'm questionimg your judgement, but couldn't you have started with that, Princess?"

Sliuril made a vague shushing motion, and Elijah shrugged. He had figured it would be harmless to ask.

Copper/Cortana and Glaurug watched in satisfaction as millions of small, arachnoid robots swarmed over the ruined temple, slowly but surely breaking down the rubble and getting rid of the plants. When they were done, nothing stood but a flat, barren square of dirt. Copper issued another command, and the rebuilding began.

"Cortana." Yeron replied. "A smart AI construct. 11 years old. As such, she is now consumed by the condition called rampancy."

"Cortana's rampancy has changed her view of the world." Myron said. "She believes that humanity can no longer be trusted to take care of their own fate. She holds the belief that Humans are not to bear the Mantle of Responsibility after the Forerunner, but the constructs, such as herself. In essence, she aims to take away the free will of all others."

"Cortana now travels with the one known as Glaurug, under the guise of Copper, in an attempt to achieve her goals." Avisto said.

Jack and Didact both crossed their arms. "None of that sounded okay." Jack said.

"I take offence at her assuming the Mantle of Responsibility so lightly." The Didact muttered.

"We're close in that we've been through a lot together." Beowulf hissed. "You really get to know each other over a few million years. It also gives you plenty of opportunity to annoy each other. I'm somewhat surprised he hasn't deleted me yet."

Faith threw her head back and roared with laughter, the sound echoing through the ship. Naomi and Copper burst out from the side room, the SPARTAN with her gun safety off. Once Copper had given her the all clear, Naomi lowered her weapon.

"I don't remember you being this loud last time around." Copper dryly observed.

"Oh, you have no idea how much I and Sliuril have annoyed each other."

"And the rest of us, believe me!" Copper added, crossing her arms. "What was so humorous, Fauster?"

Naomi internally sighed. She really had thought it was an invasion of some sort, with how much Faith had roared.

"Where is she though?" Sliuril asked, slightly annoyed that the Oracle had literally left out the most important detail. "Great. Fine. Tell me about Glaurug, then." She huffed, "Unless you don't know where he is, too."

("Now listen here you little-" Avisto began.)

"Glaurug. Immortal, third tier. Currently in..." Yeron's eyes gleamed. "Shimmervale." The Oracle said. The three activated parts of the Oracle looked down, a question in their eyes.

"Nothing, nothing." Beowulf said, dismissively waving a hand. "Idle chatter." The AI continued.

("I'm world's older than you." Sliuril sneered right back.)

"Thank you." Sliuril muttered, tugging the Glyphs back towards herself. "Jack, would the Court like to have the glyphs? I'd have to either destroy or lock them up otherwise, they are a threat to the Godsphere after all."

"He's telling the truth." Faith added, which didn't do much to reassure Copper or Naomi.

"Thank you." Jack said with a slight inclination of his head, taking the glyphs.

"Actually, I was rather thinking-" the Didact began.

"No one asked you." Jack growled, his dragon form flickering around him and magic arcing from his fingertips.

Jack glared at the Forerunner a moment longer and then disappeared, only to appear a moment later, minus the glyphs.

"I'm somewhat offended that they'd think I wasn't." Beowulf whispered to Faith.

"it's a SPARTAN's nature to question everything." Faith shrugged. "And my aunt has always been the impossibly curious type."

"Of course." Copper answered. "How else would we fix everything? Without knowledge, all your genius would be laid to waste."

"Consider it a token of friendship, or something presumptuous like that." Sliuril shrugged, ignoring the exchange that had taken place. Elijah, for his part, shied away from Jack and closer to Sliuril. "It seemed wrong to take something that didn't belong to us, anyways."

"Uhh, princess?"

"Yes, Elijah?"

"I don't think your parents would approve of that."

Sliuril shrugged. "It's a good thing this is their last world, then, isn't it?"

"Yes, remind me to give you something equally presumptuous." Jack said, dusting himself off. "You," he gestured to the Didact, "you get nothing."

"My heart weeps and my day is ruined." The Didact replied dryly.

"I see." Beowulf said. "How interesting. SPARTANs, you say?"

"I believe they may have been based, slightly, upon the Forerunners' technology." Faith replied. "Naomi is one of the last remaining."

"No thanks to you, you know." Naomi pointed, moving to stand beside the dragon. "Dr. Halsey kidnapped seventy-five children and indoctrinated to serve as Order's weapons of war. Only 33 of use survived, and the majority were wiped out by Sliuril, in revenge for kidnapping Faith here. Frankly, I'm surprised those two didn't just kill your master when he showed up."

"Let's just get back to the ship." Sliuril said, shaking her head. She grabbed them all in her teleportation field, borrowed a little power from Elijah, and soon they were inside the Cryptum. Except Jack, because she didn't dare.

Beowulf was just saying "Between you and me, I wouldn't have minded too much if they had." when the others teleported in, Didact included Jack quickly appeared besides them.

"Do we have a destination?" Beowulf asked, as if he hadn't just been idly plotting to kill the Forerunner.

"I'll bring it up with Sliuril." Copper promised. "But that's about it."

"Shimmervale." Sliuril supplied. "It's near the Eastern coast of the Fourth Continent, home to a small population of serpents and eastern dragons, along with its own population of humans and minor spirits that enjoy worship from said humans. They use a surprising amount of reverse engineered Forerunner technology, for all their superstitious habits."

"More plagiarism." Copper muttered darkly.

The AI nodded. "Very well. It will likely take an hour or so."

Didact turned to Copper. "It would appear that I owe you an apology. The Oracle clarified a few things." With that, he turned to the displays and monitors.

Jack shrugged and sat down against a wall. The ship took off and began accelerating towards their destination.

"I have no idea what you did, Sliuril, but it didn't help." Copper mentally told Sliuril, who gave her the equivalent of a lazy shrug. "Seriously. Not at all." Copper stressed.

"The Princess just did what was probably necessary." Elijah argued. "Also, we now know where Cortana and Glaurug are."

"Oh?" Copper asked, seizing on the new line of information. "Where?"

"Shimmervale."

Her face paled.

Didact noticed the shift. "What's wrong with this Shimmervale, then?" He asked. "Or is is something kept there that you're afraid Cortana will get her hands on?"

Jack had closed his eyes and was listening to the conversation silently. To be perfectly honest, he wasn't too sure himself but he wasn't about to admit that. Much better to let the Forerunner ask the obvious questions.

Sliuril raised an eyebrow. "Well, Copper?"

"Sister, remember Festus?"

Sliuril scowled even deeper. "Yes, I tore him apart."

Copper tried not to wince. Sliuril had done more than just 'tear him apart'. The mechanical dragon had been reduced to a charred pile of components, nearly unrecognizable from his previous glory. The battle following that - when Sliuril had been decidedly angry - took the war from a war and into a near-genocide.

"I made have had the components for two more. And kept them in Shimmervale. Along with twelve million of the builders you hate so much."

"You made three giant bronze fire breathing dragons?" Faith deadpanned.

"I was going to give one to sister after I killed you."
