Jack walked into the crypt. There was a single stone coffin on a raised platform. He pushed back the lid to reveal the skeleton within. There wasn't any sign of the glyph. Jack frowned puzzled. Just as he was about to leave and look around, a voice hissed in his head.

"My sword, my armour, my helmet, my shield, gather for me, your reward I shall yield."

Jack blinked. "Could we reach a compromise of some sort? Only, I'm in a bit of a rush."

There was silence. Then...

"It's not like I'm going anywhere, buddy."

Jack groaned and left to find the items.

As Didact approached the grave where the glyph was buried, a dozen Hollow Men stood up from where they had been concealed in the undergrowth. While still clumsily, there ones were better armed and armoured than the ones that the Court and Sliuril had fought previously. He immediately brought his Suppressor to bear and began firing quick, steady bursts at the creatures.

Copper threw up her hands. "Well, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do." She muttered, more than a little annoyed. She did blow up one of the hollow men, but even that small feat of magic left her feeling drained.

"How about you start digging up that grave over there?" The Didact suggested, gesturing. Then he began firing again. The Hollow Men, shambling and tripping, were growing closer. He switched to his Boltshot. The weapon wasn't anywhere near as fast as the Suppressor, but it could be charged to fire bursts of energy that would almost certainly destroy these things. He tried it and watched in satisfaction as bones flew apart along with fragments of armor. He began charging up another shot.

Jack had decided to give the gravekeeper's hut a try. A suit of armour could be worth a lot of money. The small shack was abandoned, so he forced the door. He immediately saw the sword and shield mounted above the cold fireplace. "Great." He muttered, and pulled them down. As soon as he did, there was a growl behind him. The White Balvarine very nearly caught him off guard.

"Uh, that's actually a great idea." Copper shrugged. She found a remarkably convenient shovel nearby, leaning against a hut. Perhaps it had once been used to dig graves for the dead. Right now, Copper decided it would be better to use the shovel to disrespect the dead.

A whirl of energy picked up several pieces of a suit of armor, forming into one of the Summoners Sliuril had fought with the Court. But bigger.

"Hey, didn't I kill you already?" Sliuril muttered, her sword suddenly in hand. "Well, I'll have to make this quick."

She needed to remember not to kill this thing at too close of a range, too, since it would no doubt explode.

Jack swung around and used magic to push tha Balvarine away. He quickly summoned a sword and fired it towards the creature as it tried to get up. The blade pierced it through and it gave a long, mournful howl before it fell, dead. Then, Jack heard another howl in the distance. Then another... and another. Soon, the call was coming from every direction. "Brilliant." He muttered. He needed to find that helmet and armour soon.

Didact frowned. For every Hollow Man he took down, there seemed to be two more. It occured to him that he was trying to kill all the skeletons in an ancient, city-sized graveyard. He decided that that probably wasn't smart. The Forerunner gave a mental order and three Promethean Knights appeared, already shooting. They'd be able to keep the pressure on those things.

Sliuril grunted in pain as a swing from the giant First Summoner's sword fractured some bones in her shoulder. That had hurt a surprising amount, compared to the other Summoners she had fought. She would have to remember not to take any hits head on. She rolled to the side, the fracture already healed. Sliuril threw her sword at the First Summoner, driving it into a small chink in its armpit armor. It seemed to do nothing but enrage it, and she called it back in time to parry another swing.

Jack had mounted the shield on this back and was holding the sword as he ran, looking for the other pieces. He briefly wondered how he would carry the helmet and armour. The demon grinned to himself at the mental image of him running through a graveyard in full armour, several dozen Balvarines in pursuit.

Oh, right, the Balvarines.

He fired another few spells over his shoulder and heard a few of the creatures snarl and fall, but there were plenty more.

"How's that hole coming along?" Didact asked Copper. If he turned a full circle, there were very few places where he couldn't see Hollow Men. He thought and then made up his mind. He drew his Scattershot and got close to the creatures. The shotgun-likr weapon had devestating effects on them

"Quite well. I'd say I'm almost a meter into the ground. Say, how deep are caskets buried?" Copper answered. She was aware of the Hollow Men surrounding them, but wasn't entirely all too worried. "I hear some extra shooting - Promethean Knights?" She asked.

Sliuril took a step back as the First Summoner pressed on the offensive. There wasn't enough moisture in the air to use her ice magic, so she chanelled flames through her sword. It had no effect on the First Summoner, and even a follow up flamestrike didn't seem to deter it. Growling in annoyance, even as she had to parry another swing, she stomped a foot and sent a pillar of fire erupting in the Summoner's face.

"Six feet, wasn't it? That's, what two meters?" The Didact replied. "And yes. Promethean Knights, thank the gods." He thought about that statement. "Figuratively speaking." He added, shooting down another Hollow Man.

Out of the corner of his eye, Jack saw a grave which was different from the others. Freshly turned, in fact. He changed course and headed for it. The Balvarines howled in rage as he did so. Jack grinned. He had to be getting close.

"No, no, make it literally. I do like some appreciation now and again." Copper snarked. "Although technically we're not gods, we're Immortals." She hit wood. It flaked away under the pressure of the shovel, already quite rotten. "Hey, I found the casket!"

Sliuril put some distance between her and the Summoner, charging up one of her more powerful light spells. She released a large, powerful beam of energy, cutting clean through the summoner and evaporating most of the East gate as well. "Oops." Sliuril muttered.

"You can have all the appreciation you like if you open it up and get that glyph. Also, don't be too surprised in the skeleton in there tries to... y'know... kill you." He said, glancing around at the Hollow Men that surrounded them.

Jack had formed a barrier around himself as the dirt in the grave lifted up and fell to a side. Slowly, a Hollow Man climbed out of the grave. Jack noted that the armour it was wearing was exactly the same style as the shield and sword. The creature stumbled forward. Jack snapped his fingers and it impolded, leaving the armor intact. He picked up the armor using his magic and looked around, ignoring the Balvarines beating on his barrier. "Helmet..." He muttered thoughtfully.

"Yeah, more hollow men." Copper answered, moving to the side to avoid being stabbed by the live skeleton inside. She slammed it a few times using the shovel, eventually destroying it enough to render it harmless. Copper reached inside and extracted the first glyph. "Got it." She said, climbing out of the hole she'd dug.

Sliuril walked over to the gate, quickly casting a scan. She knelt down and retrieved the glyph, taking it from where it had been embedded in the masonry. The rest of the east gate crumbled away. "Oops."

"Very good." Didact nodded. "Lets get you back to the Cryptum." The Promethean Knights immediately formed up on Copper as he spoke the words, making sure no Hollow Men could get near her.

"Helmet. Hel...met. Met...hel? Metal? Metal hel- okay, no, this is getting me nowhere." Jack said, throwing up his arms, picking his way through the Balvarine corpses and the bloodstained snow. He sat down against the trunk of a dead tree and frowned uo at the boughs in thought. An engraved face frowned back.

"Helmet." Jack repeated happily.

Sliuril teleported into the middle of the battlefield. One of the hollow men rounded on her. Her sword sliced its head off. "I see you have your own encounters to face. How has it been?" She turned in an arc, a force spell shattering the hollow men immediately next to her.

"I suppose there was a modicum of teamwork." The Didact grunted. "But she's not the best of independent thinkers, is she?" He muttered in a lower voice, lifting up a large Hollow Man with his powers and tossing it into a group, bowling them over.

Jack entered the crypt. "Sword, armour, helmet, shield." He said, placing the corresponding items by the coffin.

There was silence for a moment. "That's... that's the wrong set."

Literal flames exploded out of Jack's eyes as he turned towards the skeleton lying in the coffin.

"Just ki- JUST KIDDING."

The glyph suddenly appeared on the coffin lid. Jack snatched it up and stormed out of the crypt.

"The living have no sense of humour."

"She's a bit scatterbrained." Sliuril shrugged. "Dying tends to have that effect on you."

Sliuril strode towards the Cryptum, leaving trails of flame in her wake. The shrubbery around the graveyard, as it turned out, was extremely flammable. "Can you identify which glyphs these are, or will we have to wait for Jack? I'm interested in finding the last one."

"I probably can scan the glyphs and compare them with the markings around the Oracle." The Didact said. "Obviously, we'd need Jack to figure out which one-"

"I'm here." Jack grunted, walking towards the group. He'd really just had to follow the burning shrubs. "Got the glyph as well." He said.

"Great. We can head to the Oracle straight away, if that's what you want." The Forerunner shrugged.

"We're missing one Glyph, but if between the three of us we can't find it, then I suppose it's probably with Cortana right now." Sliuril grumbled.

"Can we head to the Oracle? I'd like to know where those two are headed, and between the three we have, they should know, right?" Copper asked.

Copper and Glaurug, still holding the Glyph, descended into one of the ruined Temples. Copper made a disapproving tch as she looked at the remains of the once glorious structure. Golden pillars had lightened to an almost white, occasionally broken up by the green of vines snaking up.

"With the glyphs, we'll be able to activate the corresponding parts of the Oracle. Most likely, if we can phrase the question properly, they'll be able to tell us." Jack replied.

"Very good." The Didact nodded, getting on the Cryptum. "It's not far to Snowspire."

"Back so soon?" Beowulf asked.

They piled into the Cryptum, Sliuril trusting the AI and the Forerunnner to get them there.

"In case the glyphs don't work, Copper, where do you think they would be headed?" Sliuril questioned.

Copper shrugged. "I don't have access to as much information as I should, really, but then I would assume that Cortana is headed to one of my remaining strongholds. If she wants to wage war on the Godsphere, an army would be essential. No offence to Glaurug, but he's only a tier three."
