They are short forms to say that a dragon has two of the same colour. If a dragon has three different colours they are considered XYZ. If the first two colours (primary and secondary) are the same its an XXY dragon. If secondary and tertiary are the same colour then it's considered and XYY dragon. Same with primary and tertiary is XYX.

XXY dragons have basically two of the same color. For example, an XXY dragon could have:
Primary: Jade
Secondary: Jade
Tertiary: Rose
XYY and XYY are basically the same thing. XXX means a derg with the same colors for all three genes, and XYZ means a derg with all different colors.
