"I don't know, Lina. I think it's too dangerous for us to handle
the guarded Confederate army, guarding the borders of Kentucky and
Tennessee," said Cassius to Evangelina, worried about Evangelina's
security.
"I'm sure she will be thrilled to hear from you," Evangelina
smiled. "And I can ask one of my friends in the Underground
Railroad to help get her the letter!"
"Of course I will! I am the whole reason you're here instead of
safe at home with your family," she told him. She still felt guilty
that he had to pick a side.
Evangelina led him to her fathers study. There was plenty of paper
and pens. She got some ink as well and then want back to the
kitchen. She set it out on the table for Cassius.
Mom, I would like to tell you that I'm an outlaw in the
confederate States of America. However, I never been making any
mischief to some of my co-soldiers nor to the highest officials of
the army. I was pitied when I saw a young lady from the post,
harassing and abusing. I can't help it. So, I tried to escape with
her, when the armies from the Union's presence came in Charleston.
I'm sorry if I did anything wrong to you. Please forgive me.
Don't worry about me, mother. I am fine here in Kentucky, with the
young lady I saved and I always loved. You must not enter Kentucky
for you safety.
Please, say to father I'm deeply apologize for what I have caused.
I hope you understand.
