Evangelina was sad that he was homesick. She wanted to go with him to visit his mother.

"Hey Cassius? What if we wore disguises to go see your mom? No one would know it was us and no one could recognize us," she suggested.

Evangelina led him to her fathers study. There was plenty of paper and pens. She got some ink as well and then want back to the kitchen. She set it out on the table for Cassius.

Mom, I would like to tell you that I'm an outlaw in the confederate States of America. However, I never been making any mischief to some of my co-soldiers nor to the highest officials of the army. I was pitied when I saw a young lady from the post, harassing and abusing. I can't help it. So, I tried to escape with her, when the armies from the Union's presence came in Charleston. I'm sorry if I did anything wrong to you. Please forgive me.

Don't worry about me, mother. I am fine here in Kentucky, with the young lady I saved and I always loved. You must not enter Kentucky for you safety.

Please, say to father I'm deeply apologize for what I have caused. I hope you understand.
