Evangelina didn't need anymore then that. She kept her hand in his
and led him out to the tents. As they walked, many of the soldiers
stopped what they were doing to come talk to her. They eyed Cassius
wearily but stopped when they got a stern look from Evangelina,
they stopped. They knew she was strong willed and could look after
herself.
"Evangelina!" One of the men ran over and grabbed her around the
waist and twirled her in a circle. She braced herself by putting
her hands on his arms.
"Hey, Ben," she stepped back. He had a crush on her, but she didn't
like him back.
Cassius was worried, because the soldiers glared him wearily, but
he doesn't deserved their trust. His only trust he needed so bad is
Evangelina and her father. Cassius was stood back few inches from
Evangelina. When Ben, one of the Union soldier, grabbed her around
her waist, Cassius chuckled, but on the inside, he was jealous.
"Why is this feeling that some boys came near to her, I might
get jealous? I wish someone will answer my questions, but nobody
was gonna hear me what am I thinking."
"I was so worried about you and your pretty little face. Have you
thought about my offer?" Ben asked, bending he kissed the back of
her hand.
Evangelina took her hand back pointedly and said, "I have thought
it threw a hundred times now, Ben, but it won't change. I'm sorry,
but you'll have to look elsewhere for a girl to marry."
Cassius stopped from chuckling. Cassius thinks Evangelina is only a
beautiful girl, a nice woman and a skilled nurse, but he never
think she is also a brave girl.
"I didn't know she's a brave one. I thought she's just bluffing
the day she threaten everyone, such as myself. I guess I should
trust Lina from now on."
Ben pouted and laughed, "I will win you're heart one day, my
Evangelina."
"I know it's pointless to try to get you to chase some other lucky
girl, Ben, you're too stubborn," She smiled at him to show she
meant what she said but it wasn't a bad thing.
She kept walking with Cassius. She reached out her hand for him
again.
"Let's go to our destination, shall we?" said Cassius.
This time, Cassius holds her hand tightly, while walking to the
next destination. Some other soldiers glared wearily. This is the
first time Cassius holds hand with a girl.
Evangelina beamed at him and nodded. She lead him through a maze of
tents and stopped by a large tent she recognized as her fathers.
She noticed a tent that was different from the others and wasn't
normally there. She stopped and looked inside. No one was there so
she assumed it was for Cassius. She checked with her father and
then Cassius that it was meant for him.
"I don't know if there are any spare clothes for you to wear, but I
can ask. Do you need anything?" She asked.
"I don't need anything, Lina. I only need you..." Cassius starts to
startled. "A-A-I mean, I don't need anything, Lina. Thank you... I
wish I'm going to change my clothes, but it's okay. Thank you."
Cassius said and awkwardly smiled at her.
"Cassius, how on earth did you say that on purpose? Lina will be
mad at you if you say that to her. Gosh, Cassius! Gosh!
Evangelina smiled at him when he said that. It sent her heart into
overtime. She turned to leave and nearly ran into one of the poles
in the tent. She placed her hand on it and moved around it. She
turned back to look at him one last time, then walked out slowly.
She walked to her fathers tent and collapsed on her fathers
bed.
Gen. Lovelace smiled at his sleeping daughter and tucked a blanket
on her before using the spare cot.
Cassius just smiled at her when she moved around at the pole. After
she went to her father's tent, Cassius said to himself.
"Awkward! ... Oh no. What did I just said a while ago?" Cassius
walked around and startled. "It's a good thing Lina isn't mad at
me."
Then, Cassius went outside and sat down at the bench. Cassius saw
Evangelina's father's tent when Evangelina's father smiled when her
father gently smiled at her daughter and tucked a blanket on her
before her father using his spare cot. He smiled when Evangelina's
father do to her. Cassius really missed his dad.
"Whoa. I guess her father is as same as mine. Caring,
tender-loving and nice. I'm happy for her. She's so lucky that she
has a father like that."
The next morning, Evangelina stretched and curled up deeper into
the blankets. It felt so nice to have a bed under her. She finally
got out of bed and went off to look for Cassius so they could have
breakfast.
Evangelina smiled and took his hand again. She really like holding
his hand. Her hand was so small and delicate compared to his.
Cassius made her feel safe. Evangelina led him to the cook fire and
got them each some food.
