First off, I'm going to sigh *sigh*

I had a topic a while ago about swearing so this is a subject about it again. I saw this on another site and I thought it was quite effective so I'm going to try to suggest it here.

So basically as per say for a topic rating I don't mean rate it 1-5 stars or anything. Simply put a [T] letter in the topic heading (meaning teen) to say this topic may contain some swearing or violence that may not be suitable for everyone.

BUT! This doesn't mean we should post explicit things with swearing in them. It's just a reminder that if you're uncomfortable with this don't click/read this then. Also, it should only be for use on the forums, as you can't put a title in your status or anything.

To make everything fair, I'll add a disclaimer XD.

Disclaimer:
Users should click on topic with the label [T] at their own discretion. Pokeheroe's will not be at fault for any information viewed that is deemed acceptable, by the community. (I suck at writing disclaimers)

Or:
Just end up censoring everything. Just replace them all into a filter that just turns all the letters into stars or something.

Support it?
Hate it?
Just comment and criticize it. :)

What exactly is your suggestion?
Every user has the ability to set a title for their thread. So everyone can put such a [T] in the title whenever he wants to.

Now what "feature" do you want to be added?

It's not a feature, I'm just saying that we should tell/broadcast to users that to add a [t]letter to their topic if they will be using mild violence and swearing. We don't know all the users ages, because some people lie and also people have different levels of sensitivity to these things. So, what I'm saying is technically the rules say "you aren't allowed swearing" but I'm just trying to find a small loophole around that, because then you (abiding by the rules) you could be banned.

~~~
So it isn't really a "feature" but more of a suggestive type thing to see what users think if this would be helpful to them.
I think that, if anything, it should work like this:
When you start a thread, you should be asked, on a scale of one to ten, how offensive your thread/certain words in your thread could be considered. This can be adjusted when you edit the first post of the thread.
In settings, each user can say, on a scale of one to ten, how okay he or she is with swear words.
When someone opens a thread with a rating higher than the rating he or she selected, he or she will be warned that the thread may contain unsuitable content for him or her, and that it should be viewed at his or her own risk. He or she will then have the option to view the content of the thread or to return to the forum from which he or she arrived at the thread.
Pages marked 9 will automatically display the warning, even for users who claim to be okay with it. Users who are under the age of 17 cannot view threads with a rating of 10 at all, rather than simply receiving a warning to read at their own risks. (There should be a note about this when rating one's thread; also, users below the age of 17 cannot create threads with a rating of 10, lest they be unable to return to it. This particular rule can be removed so long as EXTREME caution is given to those attempting to read the thread.)
How does this idea sound? This way, at least, every user can decide for himself or herself what he or she is and isn't okay with, and there will be a warning before the thread is opened, so everyone who doesn't want to see something is able to not see it, while everyone who is okay with it can still read it. It should make everyone happy. Of course, I don't know how hard it would be to code. Would anyone be willing to give feedback and criticism on this idea?
Well, I see several "major" problems here:
→ First of all, when you create a new topic you never plan that this topic is going to be full of swear words (hopefully). You can't predict User XY is going to use an offensive swear word in Post 103.
→ Secondly, such ratings seem to me like an "excuse" for people to use multiple swear words in a thread when it's higher rated. You shouldn't use those words only because the topic is considered as "9" (or whatever) - you sometimes use them because the fit to your current situation or post.
→ And lastly: We do not tolerate any offensive posts that are PG-13 rated. That means that your ratings like 9 or 10 wouldn't be allowed in any way.
I simply don't see how this would work. Like I said: You can't predict that a topic is going to be full of swear words.
Yeah, basically what Riako said, no support. Just censor your swear words if you really have to use them, or better yet, don't use them at all.
To be honest, I don't understand why people feel the need to swear either. I personally don't swear at all, and I am annoyed when people curse, but I posted that idea as a compromise for people who, for whatever reason, insist upon doing so. I am fine with it not being accepted, because it simply means that nobody can swear at all; I just wanted to have it there so that there would be a proper warning if this suggestion was accepted.
