Kieran knew a lot of monsters and creatures had strange fascination
with asking riddles... a little strange to meet some now, but if
they could help the group find the well, it would be worth it.
"Sure... what's the first one?" Kieran asked. No response... He
stared at the full moon in annoyance.
“I happen to be a conquers as well” he grinned, his eyes swirling
multiple colours “with this special form of mind control. If I keep
eye contact, the subject does whatever I want”
"You are controlling something artificial. My intelligence is not
real. It was created by the Zombie King for his own purposes. I am
simply the vessel."
“It’s a shame, I haven’t used my power in so long” he purred,
curling more around the general “But I am in fact capable of
killing almost anything, due to my size”
The stone men did not stop moving. They said, "I have a name that's
not mine and no one cares about me in their prime. People cry at my
sight and lie by me all day and night. What am I?"
Kieran had heard of this one before. "A tombstone!" he barked. No
reply. He sighed. It probably needed to be in english.... Thinking
quickly, he did his best to scratch out the word on the ground. It
took a few minutes and it was hard to read... but maybe Melody or
another human would get it? They'd probably question why a raccoon
dog could spell too, but that wasn't important.
Melody looked down. Was the raccoon-dog trying to scratch something
out? She leaned over and squinted. "Hm....does that say Tombstone?"
The men stopped moving, then stomped into a line, moving out of the
clearing. "I guess that was the answer!" She shrugged, then paused
and looked back at the raccoon dog. "Waait...that's not
normal."
"I don't care, as long as we have control over the Elemental
Animus."
They moved back in after a while, except this time they were
wooden. They started moving around again. "I am the beginning of
sorrow and the end of sickness. There's no happiness without me nor
is there sadness. I am always in risk, yet never in danger. You
will find me in the sun, but I am never out of darkness."
The general flipped out. "HOW? HOW HAVE YOU DONE THIS?! ARE YOU
TRYING TO COMPETE WITH HIS ROTTING MAJESTY?! I WILL NOT ALLOW
THIS!"
The general relaxed. "Good. That would not be helpful. I am glad
that you are not trying to usurp his royal Majesty because that
would make me. very. angry."
Kieran was thankful he'd picked up a riddle book after moving into
town. He loved reading, and trying to slowly comprehend books like
that had really helped him go from illiterate to a speed reader.
Riddles with "beginning" and "end" often had to do with grammar or
the spelling of words. Hmm... what did all of the words have in
common? The letter "S"! After doing a quick check in his mind, he
was pretty confident it was the correct answer. This one was easier
to show, he traced out a letter "S" on the ground, while hissing
like a snake.
“I would never usurp the king” he shook his head “he sounds like a
greater threat than me, meaning he is much better than me” he said,
flattening his hooded neck, and closing his pincers “I only seeked
approval from you”
