Cassie leaned down a bit so he could reach easier and she smiled at him, her sharp teeth showing, but not menacing in the least, but it fell as she heard Octavius. "As I told you before, that wasn't your decision to be cruel. It's not your burden to bear. You may have been the instrument, but you were never the one giving the order. You are not a cruel person Octavius. One of the four kindest people I know." She was talking about Jason, Max, and Vera and him. Though she could have mentioned her tribe, but that would have strayed from her point.

Jason paused so he could hug Octavius firmly. "No one is gonna say that. If they do, I'll beat them with a stick." He was trying to get the man to smile and hopefully laugh.

Max nodded. "You are a wonderful person, Octavius. If you weren't, I wouldn't trust my cousin with you. I trust you with my life. And would protect you, all of you, with my life. Though, between the four of us, I think we can keep most if not all threats at bay."

Octavius hugged Jay back, a tad stiffly but definitely tight. "You needn't beat them with a stick, Jason. But the mental image is comical. I know it was done to save my own life but sometimes I question what makes mine more important then theirs? It isn't. But maybe I was meant to go on...maybe I am being kept around for something bigger. Something meaningful."

Cassie nodded agreeing with Max and Octavius. "The gods have an interesting way of making things go the way they want. I can't see the future, but I'm sure that you've got something important coming your way." She didn't know if Jason knew about the slaves in the orchard, and if he didn't know, then Octavius wouldn't know.

"I'm with Cassie on this one... You've got a beautiful soul Octavius, and now that you're free you can let it shine." Jason gave him a soft kiss on the cheek before letting go of the hug.

Max smiled, debating if he should pull a group hug on them. Seeing as Jay was pulling back, he let it go. Perhaps next time. "They tend to do that, don't they? I am willing to bet there is a lot in store for you. The bad is out of the way. Now you can focus on the good."

Octavius wove his fingers through Jay's as he resumed their hand holding. "I like it. Being me and able to shine. One day, I might shine as bright as you, Jason," he said softly.

Cassie shifted into her human shape so she could hold Max's hand easier since there wasn't anyone nearby.

Jason chuckled and blushed slightly. "But you're already shining as bright if not brighter..."

"What do you think about the gods?" Max asked, looking over at the boys to make sure things were okay. "I'd like to think they all are still looking after us. Though, when I send up silent prays, I always worry about doing so. What if I get the wrong god? What if someone unkind is listening and chooses to answer in the must unhelpful way possible?"

Octavius shook his head, blushing hotly. "Me? Next to you? You must not own a mirror. In that great big house? I'll find you one and show you how brightly you shine," he teased lightly.

"The gods don't do something unless it follows the great plan, or if they're punishing someone, so don't worry about getting the wrong god." Cassie chuckled and nodded. "They are always watching, even if it doesn't feel like it. Even if it feels like they're laughing at you..." Her tone grew more serious than it was. "They're not..." She took a breath and let it out in a sigh. "When I was in that cell, I had thought the gods had abandoned me... But they were just making sure I waited for you to come along." A slight smile pulled at the corner of her lips.

Jason's blush darkened and spread. "Once you find that mirror I can show you that your light is as bright as mine." He brought Octavius' hand up to his lips and lightly kissed it. "Would I lie to you?"

Max smiled, kissing her cheek. "I am sure that is the case. I would rather you not have to suffer, but am glad you are who you are and that we were brought together. So...what should we do this week? I am moving some produce sometime soon. From the orchard. In that bunk I showed you. Would you want to help with that? Once I get tbe go ahead from the buyer, we'll move them," Max said, talking in could he figured she would understand and guess the meaning behind. He wasn't so worried about Jay or Octavius. It was any unwanted or unseen ears in the trees. Seeing them all interact was one thing. But if it was found out about the escaped slaves, who knew what would happen. One of the only paths out might be compomised. "Vera helps with it. Planning the meetings. She can have things ready at a moments notice."

Octavius blushed, smiling softly. "I don't think you would. I trust you. Completely."

"I would really like to help with that. I'm strong, so I can move stuff that might be more difficult." Cassie knew full well why he was hiding his words. "It's really up to you, Jason, and Octavius as to what gets done, since I have no idea what life here is like..." She intended to ask Max later if Jason knew about the slaves.

"Good, because I would never lie to you in the first place." Jason grinned as he looked up the path. "Hey! We're almost to the base of the mountain!" He took off running, his grip on Octavius' hand loose enough so that if he didn't want to run his arm wouldn't come off.

Max squeezed her hand. He'd known she wanted to see the kids again. And he was sure they would want to see her again. "Thank you. And I'm sure we'll find something to do. I have some dreadfully boring meetings I am required to be at. Would you come with me to them? You don't have to but you're welcome to."

Octavius was happy to run with Jay. His grip tightened as he kept up with ease. "What should we do first? Berries or swimming or exploring?" He asked.

"I would like to go with you, though I likely will be furry than like this..." She chuckled slightly picturing a scenario. Cassie would follow Max into the meeting in her full shape, and the other people at the meeting would make a comment about no dogs, or something akin to that, and then she'd just stand up and then Max would either explain or let them fall into silence.

"Hmm, I think swimming for a bit, that way we can get out and eat the warm berries, and then go exploring and be dry by the time we get back." Jason glanced to Octavius before looking ahead. "What do you think?"

Max chuckled, only imagining what Cassie had in mind. "I trust you. Go for whatever look you'd like, beautiful," he told her, squeezing her hand. "I think we'll be a good team. Definitely make them think twice. Not that I fear being taken out by one of them. I'm trusted there. It's the people around them that feel entitled and jealous that I worry about. End up trying to take me out just to take me out. To advance."

Octavius thought it over, excited for the evening. "Yes, I think that'd be good. We can watch the sunset with some of the berries too."

Cassie gently squeezed his hand back, a smile on her lips which were pulled back just enough so that her canines could be seen. "They'd have a lot to go through with me there. My main purpose is your guard, I mean, that's what you bought me for, no?" She was just joking, but was serious about protecting him.

"Oh that sounds nice," Jason hummed softly at the thought of them sitting there watching the sunset and eating the warm berries.

"Well, I'm not entirely sure now," Max teased back. "I might need you for something else, as well." Bringing her hand to his lips, he kissed the back of her hand. "What do you think? Can I talk you into picking up some more responsibilities?" Max meant the run away slaves but one might think he meant something else.

Octavius chuckled. "So, where is this waterfall?" he asked, looking around.

Cassie had no knowledge of the something else that he could've meant, so she understood. "Maybe," She chuckled and moved to put her hands on his shoulders, bringing their faces a few inches apart. "But only if you ask nicely..." Her tribe never had to deal with unfaithful mates, or loose women, so she didn't understand what his father had been doing, let alone any implications of that nature.

"It's right over here..." Jason lead the way over towards a clearing, there was a large pool that had no obvious source, and at the edge it spilled over the cliff. The view was amazing, the sun was at least an hour from setting, but it was warm and beautiful.

Max tugged her hips closer, his face serious as he rested his forehead against hers. "Please, Cassie, would you be willing to help me?" He asked, sincere and adoring. "I promise never to stay by your side, to live our lives together, as partners, as mates."

Octavius froze, staring at the scene before him with awe. "...this....this place...it has to be magic. The elements sing here. It is...it's..." He trailed off, searchinf for a word in any language he spoke to describe it. Nothing seemed to do.

"Yes, a hundred times yes..." Cassie giggled as she tilted her head to kiss him softly, having not quite come up the crest of the hill to see the scenery. She would have been content to stay there, but then she remembered something. She wanted to check in on the family and the older couple before bed. If Octavius and Jason were there she'd have to either wait until they left, or give a reason as to why she was leaving.

Jason took a deep breath and nodded. "It's beautiful." He walked over to the pond and trailed his hand through the cool, crystal clear water. "It's also fed by a spring, but you can't really see that, but if anyone asks, I often say magic."

Max smiled, kissing her back happily. "Would you like to come check out the waterfall? Maybe we can sneak out before sunset to go see a few things in the orchard. This has beautiful sunsets but I prefer the orchard. If my father is home, diner will be after sunset anyway."

"It is magic. It is earthly magic," Octavius said, moving forward to run his hand through the water. It was cool and pure, just like he liked it. "I'm going in," he murmured, moving into the water.

"I would really like that, all of that." Cassie was already smiling as she followed him up the hill only to stop and gasp as she saw the pool and the view just beyond. Her jaw was agape and the words just wouldn't come out as she took it all in.

"I'm with you," Jason chuckled slightly as he slid into the water right beside Octavius. "A magic that is not often appreciated anymore..."

Max chuckled, bumping her shoulder with his. "Is this like anything you had growing up?" He asked, wondering if she had as beautiful a landscape as this. He was sure the place she had grown up was beautiful. But had they had a masterful like this?

Octavius looked over at Cassie, grinning. "I believe that is how I looked when I saw it a minute ago. It's amazing! You guys coming in?" He asked, swimming towards the edge of the wasteful, wanting to look over the edge.
