A Dangerous Rebellion

"I would like that," Octavius said, smiling back.
"Let's go then!" Jason led Octavius out to a path into the nearby woods behind the mansion, and to a small clearing. "I used to spend a lot of my nights out here when it was warm."
"It's beautiful out here...this whole place is. It's like a fairytale. One I keep expecting someone to wake me from. But it's real and I get to stay," Octavius said, awed as he walked behind him.
Jason grinned as he set things down. "You can stay as long as you want to. You're free, completely and utterly. If you want to go off one day you can, and if you want to come back it's up to you."
Octavius chuckled, kissing him. "I am glad to hear that."
"And I'm glad that you're here," Jason smiled into their kiss before taking his hand and leading him back. "Let's go find Gaelan!"
Octavius nodded, grinning at their held hands as he walked with Jay. "Are there more people around here I should meet?" he asked.
"Oh you can meet everyone if you'd like, but..." Jason slowed and stopped with a sigh. "I think it'd be safer for you if we went with you still b-" He couldn't bring himself to say it. He knew what the consequences could be and he couldn't bear to think of what might happen if this were to get out. His grip tightened on Octavius' hand as he had this inner conflict.
"...should be seen as a slave? I have begun to become comfortable with you, Jay. But I am still a trained slave. My...lessons will not be forgotten lightly. If ever. I can still play my part perfectly," Octavius told him lightly. Part of him rebelled, wanting to finally be seen. But the more sensible part knew what was at stack and would not, could not risk it.
Jason pulled the man into a tight hug. "You are not a slave. You might have the training of one, but you are not a slave anymore... I hope that later in life those lessons will fade if not vanish from memory completely..." He almost hissed through clenched teeth as he could only imagine what he was put through. "Octavius, you don't have to do this if you don't want to..."
"Do what? Help? I still wish to help. I have to pretend for appearances sake anyway. I don't mind helping others while doing that. It'll keep you safe. And I want you to be safe. You are...everything. I own no earthly possessions. Besides the clothes you have given me. I own those and treasure them." Hugging Jay tightly, he breathed deeply. "I will be okay."
Jason let out a sigh and shook his head. "As long as you're okay, then I'll be okay." He let Octavius let go first before he relinquished his grip. "This way," He held Octavius' hand as they walked down the path, but once they reached the mansion, he let go. Weaving through the bushes of the garden, they soon came to the center with all of the flowers. Kneeling along one of the paths was an older man with graying hair, his hands covered by a pair of work gloves, and those covered in dirt. The man hadn't heard them coming and was whistling an old, but not entirely forgotten military tune.
Octavius missed the warm comfort of Jays hand and hoped they would not need to always hide. Seeing the older man filled him with curiosity. And hearing the song, he felt compelled to hum along the few bars he knew. He had been punished severally the last time he had let himself forget his status as a slave and sing along to such a song and clamped down on the urge. Keeping himself just behind Jason, he angled his head respectively.
Jason smiled as he walked over. "Good afternoon Gaelan!" The older man looked up to him and bowed his head in respect. "Master Jason, good afternoon." He was about to push himself up when a hand motion from Jason stayed him, as he knelt down beside the older man. "I've no time to play today I'm afraid, got to finish up here and then the horses need to be fed." Jason nodded planning to take care of the horses, that chore was always fun for him. "Gaelan, this is Octavius, and h-" "He's the one you brought home yesterday, and the one who has stolen your heart." A faint smile rested on the older man's lips. Jason went pale but before he could say anything Gaelan continued. "My apologies for interrupting, but I had seen you two in the halls earlier, I hadn't meant to come around the corner then, but I saw what I did. As I serve your father, I also serve you, so I shall say nothing." Jason was a bit shellshocked to say the least. He was frozen on the spot
Octavius had gone stock still, waiting to be hit, to be yelled at, to be accused of something and name calling. Bowing his head further, he was shocked when the older man did none of the above. Jerking his head up to look at him, Octavius studdied Gaelan. He had no idea how to respond or if he should say anything. Keeping his mouth shut, he waited for someone to do something. What was this world he had stumbled into? Servents loyal to their masters out of loyalties sake? Most of the places he had lived in where a den of snakes, waiting for someone yo show weakness so that the others could pounce and attack them. Turning his head to Jay, he tried to figure out what about this man made people so...so...good. He had to be some sort of living deity. Maybe he was an angel unwittingly born human? To command such power on kindness alone...Jason was special, Octavius decided. Beyond anything he had ever seen.
Gaelan stood up removing a glove and offering out the clean, but obviously calloused hand to shake. "I come from a better time, and I try to keep my morals straight." Jason smiled and after Octavius shook his hand he moved in to hug the older man. "Thank you," Gaelan chuckled and patted his back. "You know, I sort of had a feeling you'd turn out this way." Jason cocked his head to one side before it clicked and he blushed a little as he figured it out. "Was it that obvious?" This question only made the older man crack up with laughter. "Goodness gracious, to these old eyes it most certainly was." Gaelan smiled over at Octavius and calmed his laughter. "Now, what did you two come to see me about?"
Octavius gave Gaelan a smile. "I was hoping to offer my help. Should you need it. I am Master Jason's guard, but as long as he is okay with it, I am more then happy to help out, put in honest work whenever you need me."
"Help? Perhaps, but I'd much more enjoy your company. Though I think you two had plans with your cousin Jason. Black Ridge, yes?" Gaelan grinned as he knelt back down. "My body might not move as fast as it once did, but my hearing is still quite keen." Jason laughed and nodded. "You were always the winner at hide and seek, you always seemed to know where I hid." Gaelan waved a hand at them as he leaned back over to get back to work. "Now shove off and go enjoy the sun," He chuckled.
