Danny nodded, smiling as he ducked his head under Nat's attention. "Yeah. Didn't you see me smile?" He teased, nudging her shoulder again. He didn't tell Angel about the lack of ice cream in his life. He didn't think she would enjoy hearing about how his parents had treated him. He'd tell in time but for now, they were happy and he didn't want to ruin it.

Nat smiled as he nudged her shoulder again. She could tell and really hoped he would stay and join them, she could really get along with him. "I did, and I like your smile." She planned to make him smile again, and as often as she could. It sounded like both of their pasts weren't very happy. Soon enough they reached Angel's apartment and she held the door open for them. It wasn't huge, but it was comfortably spaced. There was a living room with a couch and a television, a kitchen with a table, a bathroom with a shower and bath, and a bedroom with a small closet. "Make yourselves at home while I get the ice cream,"

Danny stiffled a yawn as he bent to take off his shoes and leave his backpack at the door. "Thank you, Angel," he called before looking up at Nat. "You like my smile? Really? Thanks! Yours is great. Can...is it okay to ask about those guys? You don't have to tell me if you don't want. Either way, if they show up again, I am kicking their butts with you girls. Though, you do a pretty awesome job keeping them from you to begin with. What kind of cobra was that?"

Nat nodded and glass clinked softly as Angel got out the bowls for the ice cream. "I really do like your smile, and yeah... I suppose you do deserve an explanation after helping with them..." Nat sat herself on one end of the couch as she took off her sneakers and set them aside. "Well, I'm not sure how much you've already seen, but, well," She sighed slightly and tucked her legs up under her. "I guess I should start from the beginning. I was created in a lab and was tested on. Another woman got me out of there and I've been with her and her girlfriend since then. I'm the science experiment for those guys' boss and he wanted me back..."

"That sounds as bad as mine. Probably worse...mine...my parents were, no, they are highly religious. He is a catholic priest and she's the lead singer and director of the choir. When I was born...they didn't want me. But they were the perfect catholic family so they made me hide everything...he often told me I wasn't his...that I was and am the devils spawn and my mother had to have had an affair. He...said the best way to cure me is to beat it out of me...always in places no one would see. Had to keep up appearances. I got sick if it and ran away when I turned ten," Danny explained, pulling in on himself as he sank down onto the couch, pulling his knees to his chest and making himself a tight ball. "I won't go back..."

When Danny finished his story Nat all but leapt over and enveloped him in a huge embrace. "You never will go back. Never." Angel walked in and added her arms to the hug as well. "You're part of this family now, so they never need to be thought of again. You don't ever need to go back if you don't want to." They held him firmly to reassure him that they wouldn't let anything hurt him again.

Danny blinked, finding his eyes full of tears. He opened his mouth to speak a few times but nothing came out. Wiggling his arms out from between his body and theirs, Danny hugged the two woman fiercely. Tears started pooring down his cheeks and the boy began to make strange sobbing sounds. Nodding his head, Danny managed to whispered, "Th-thank you."

"You don't need to thank us," Angel whispered back, letting him let go once he felt he had enough. "You can thank me by staying with me and not living out on the streets." She said as she went to finish grabbing the ice cream. "And you can thank me by smiling." Nat said as she grinned at him trying to cheer him up a bit. Angel came back in with the ice cream, three bowls in her hands. Two with chocolate and vanilla and one with just chocolate. She handed the two mixes to Nat and Danny and kept the chocolate one for herself. "I wasn't sure which one you guys would prefer, so I gave you both." Nat thanked her and dug in. Angel sat herself on the other side of Danny.

Danny smiled, his eyes red from crying but still happy to be with them. He took a moment to stir the two flavors together, making a lumpy blend before taking a bite. He savored it, looking like he was moments from falling asleep. Frowning, he looked down at himself. "I shouldn't be sitting on your nice couch...I'm all dirty. Would it be too much trouble for me to take a shower before bed? Also, I think Nat should get the couch. I don't mind taking the floor," Danny asked, using those manners he'd learned to portray a perfect son. Though, now that he was getting sleepy, his tails, nine that were much like Angels wings and tattooed to his back when he was hiding them, were beginning to slip into their coopereal form.

Nat smiled back at him seeing his smile, but she almost spat out her ice cream. "You're not taking the floor." Angel shook her head. "That is out of the question. A shower is definitely do able, but you on the floor? Nope. Not happening." Nat swallowed her mouthful before nodding in agreement. "If you don't want me on the floor, then I can sleep on the top of the couch as a lizard or snake." She wasn't going to suggest she slept beside him, but she would if nothing else than to keep him company and be there to comfort him.

"I didn't even think of that. It doesn't put a strain on you? You'll be fine sleeping in one of those forms?" Danny asked, looking at Nat. "That'll work for me. Even if you want to take the armrest or I can pull my feet up so you can have a cushion on one side. I've got a pair of clean pajama pants in my backpack so I won't get stuff dirty. I just don't have a clean shirt at the moment. This is the cleanest," he said, pointing to the shirt he had on. It wasn't too bad but there was dirt and dust in places from sleeping on the ground. The darker color helped hide most of it.

Nat shook her head. "It comes naturally to me. Just as your heart doesn't get tired of beating, I don't get tired of shifting like that. A big shift and a lot of energy expenditure takes it out of me, but a small shape for sleeping? I'll be fine." She smiled while Angel leaned a little closer to Danny to inspect the shirt. "I have plenty of t shirts you could use or have until we get you a couple more pairs of clothes and take this stuff to a laundromat... Danny, I don't mind the dirt at all, I've had to clean worse messes out of my couches that I caused." She chuckled remembering the times with injuries that didn't heal quickly.

Angel nodded and set her empty dish in the sink before heading to her bedroom to grab the shirt. "You're not making a mess, and you're no more work than I had expected and planned on when I invited you to live with me." She emerged from her room and set the shirt on the arm of the couch. "You're not much work and in my eyes every moment of work is worth it to see you happy and healthy." The shirt was a simple design of a dream catcher with feathers, though simple it was pretty.

Danny looked it over, staring at the dream catcher with a smile. "Maybe it's an omen," he said softly, running a had over the feather. "I'm going to go shower now. Before I accidently fall asleep..." Danny said, standing up and heading to his backpack. There he grabbed his pants before setting off to the bathroom.

Angel looked off after the boy then looked to Nat. "He deserves more," She sighed softly and picked up the dishes and busied herself with cleaning them in the sink. She knew the shower was easy to use and figure out so she didn't go over and explain. Nat tried to help do the dishes, but one stern look from Angel and that was it, so she went back to the couch and curled up as a bearded dragon on one of the cushions.

Danny figured things out on his own fairly easily. He was surprised and amazed by all the different scents to the soaps. After cleaning himself up, Danny quickly dried before catching sight of himself in the mirror. Generally, he avoided them. They showed things he didn't like. Like his ribs, bruises, and how not perfect life was. But when he saw himself this time, he kept his gaze there. Then he gave it a slow smile. He was surprised to find dimples in his cheeks. That was really him? Maybe... When all nine of his long, bushy tails fanned out behind him, he couldn't deny it. Carefully, Danny tugged on his pants, carefully working his tails through the hole he had made in them. Then he tugged on the shirt with care, smiling at the dream catcher. "...start of catching a dream? Maybe. Especially how some of my dreams turn out," he chuckled to himself before coming back out. Spotting bearded dragon Nat, he grinned, padding to his backpack to drop off his clothers before hurrying over. "Yeah, you are probably the coolest people I've ever met," he said, tails flicking excitedly.

As Nat saw Danny come over she flipped over herself and shifted back into herself, her eyes wide and mouth agape as she stared at his tails. "Whoa... Those are... So fluffy..." She was completely in awe. Other than the dogs and stray cats she'd seen, she'd never seen anything furry up close before, let alone petted anything with fur. All she had were scales and claws. This? This was completely new and amazing. Angel turned around hearing the exchange and her eyes widened as well as she took in the tails. "When you said you had tails Danny I didn't quite expect these," She walked in drying her hands in a towel. She let her wings emerge from her back through the holes she'd cut in her shirt.

The boy shifted his feet nervously before sitting down on the couch again, tails flicking as if each had a mind of it's own. "Yeah...though, I think my parents always though I should have pitched forked or spade ended tails. Completely hairless. I like these. Once, when I was little, one of the older boys saw me in Sunday school. He said I looked like a ninetails. Showed me a picture on a pokemon card. I like the darker colors of mine though. Blacks and blues are more me then the browns and whites." One of his tails fell in his lap and Danny unconsciously grabbed ahold of it, stroking the fur calmingly. "I really like your wings. In my dream, you pulled them out to defend Nat. You didn't need them in real life though. They are prettier then what I saw."
