"I think the glare you gave her was really subtle," Metis snickered.
Once again ignoring her inner psycho witch, Mattie felt around her bag for the crisp, white envelope she had been given. Keeping up with Bellatrix's pace, she unsealed the envelope and took out two pieces of paper. Upon unfolding these revealed a hastily scrawled map of the academy and her room number.
"Oh...I've been assigned to R24," Mattie said in surprise.
The irony of it all, her middle name being Reverie and 24 being her old room number at the orphanage. The universe played such cruel jokes indeed.
"Wonder why they gave me a map," Mattie thought.
"Because all the bathrooms being circled in bright red marker is totally not a clue," Metis drawled.
"Are you saying that they're afraid of me vomiting all over the place?" Mattie demanded.
"They know you throw up at the slightest miscalculation of power. They probably do think that, yes. Now that I think of it, yes, they do think that," Metis stated, amused.
"You are no help to my self-esteem," Mattie grumbled.
"Honey, it's not my job to do that," Metis cooed.
"Didn't I send you away?" Mattie growled in irritation.
"It was boring."
"How could you possibly get bored in less than five seconds?"
"Mortals," Metis stated it as if it was the most horrible insult she could muster.
[I have literally no idea how the room number system goes so I'll just edit this if needed ._.]
[Edited because I literally forgot Mattie just sent her away a post ago.]

Mattie pulled off her boots, placing them in her lap. She concentrated, then splayed her hands over the boots. Black dots danced across her vision, and she started to feel nauseous. Standing up and knocking her boots to the floor, she ran to the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet after pulling her hair up.
She supposed she threw up around four times before she found herself leaning against the wall, panting heavily. She managed to haul herself up, quickly gargle that awful taste of bile out of her mouth, and drag her bare feet back into the room. She examined her boots again with shaky hands. They were completely fixed.
Mattie slipped her boots on, enjoying the familiar comfort they brought to her. "I'm all set," She said, her voice sounding much weaker than usual.

(this will be interesting 030)
(I wonder how Metis will react to touching a "life drainer" :p)
"Maybe she was just overreacting again," Mattie tried to reassure herself.
Mattie put her hand out, touching Bellatrix's. Almost immediately, hot pain spiked through her entire body.
"MATILDA YOU FOOLISH GIRL!" Metis screamed, sounding incredibly distant.
As quickly as the pain appeared, it dissipated. Mattie sucked in some air, hoping it was over. It might have been over for Mattie, but not for Metis.
"MAKE THE PAIN STOP!" Metis bellowed, giving Mattie a headache. "STUPID GIRL! YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU'VE JUST DONE! MAKE IT STOP!"
Mattie's outstretched hand was jolted with a sudden burst of energy, and an explosion pushed both of their hands back.

"S-st-stu-stupid....girl....look....what...happened..." Metis' voice was a pained echo.
"Metis?" Mattie managed to think. "What happened?"
Metis let out a feeble laugh. "Your little friend took away some of the pain you carry.
"Then why were you so against it?" Mattie wondered.
"Besides the fact that she could have killed both you and herself? I am your pain, Matilda. The pain you carry lured me here into your mind, letting me avoid death's clutches. Your friend just took away a large portion of it, possibly killing herself, and now I have lost a large part of my anchor. Split between time and space. I can still hang on, but I am not so sure about your friend there.
Matilda shot up to her feet, darting to the bleeding Bellatrix's side. Mattie was tackled by an array of emotions. Most of it was anger at Metis for not telling her exactly what would happen. She had just recovered from the explosion herself, but nevertheless she placed her hands in the air above Bellatrix. A primal cry emitted from her throat - a result of all the emotions charging her- probably echoing from miles around, and her hands glowed, and began to heal.

Matilda wasn't aware she was crying until she was gasping for breath. Her greatest fear was the reason she isolated herself. It was the main reason she left the orphanage. It was the reason she'd never had a friend before. It was the reason for the constant pain in her leg, an aftershock of a tumble of emotions she had had when she'd set a dragon to burn New York.
Her greatest fear was becoming Metis. A cold-blooded killer.
A fresh wave of emotions flowed through her, and Matilda's hands glowed brighter, making poisonous black steam come out of Bellatrix. The steam was Mattie's pain in a gaseous form.
Her hands stopped glowing, and she clenched them into fists. The steam hung in the air, waiting.
"No. More," Mattie hissed, willing the pain to nonexistence.
As the steam disappeared, Mattie gasped for breath as tears poured down her cheeks. Her body had gotten so used to the pain it was still trying to process the fact that most of it was gone. Mattie was just tired now.
[Personally think that was a bit dramatic, but oh well.]

"You are the most stupid host I have ever taken in my entire century of living," Metis' voice was a mere echo.
"Correction, I'm the only host you've ever taken," Mattie snapped back.
"I do try to tolerate it when you're right," Metis' voice was barely a mumble.
"Any particular reason your voice is so much more quiet?" Mattie asked, stumbling to her feet.
"You just injected a part of me into your friend, basically. Of course, I'm more quiet," Metis said, irritated.
"Please don't tell me she can hear you too," Mattie worried.
"Barely a whisper in her head, and her thoughts are shielded from me."
"Good. It's enough for you to poke around in my mind, not in others."
"What's that supposed to me-"
Mattie cut her off with a mental push, leaving her fuming in the depths of her subconscious.
