“Oh, hey, head detective!”
he chuckled slightly.
“Anyways, I was putting in my 101% in working on paperwork, as I always do, on a consistent basis, when these kids started fighting each other, distracting me fro my oh-so-important (paper)work!”
Aleks laughed nervously, rubbing his palms together.
“You should definitely scold those kids so we(myself included) can all go back to work andIwilldefinitelynotgotakeanothernap…!"

Laurence Walton's POV
His mouth fought to form the words, but in that state, with all those eyes on him... He couldn't keep his composure. What the hell was he even supposed to say?
Oh, she punched me, so I fought back. Really civilized behavior there, Laurence Walton. You should have just left while you still could.
But all he could do was stare in silence. He couldn't even form the words. He had to explain, but... He couldn't find it in him.
When my parents find out about this... Oh, for God's sake, this isn't going to be pretty. I'll be thrown out of the agency at best, considered a criminal at worst.
It didn't matter that the mongrel had started it. He had allowed it to continue. And all he could do was hang his head in silent shame.
Eloi Torres's POV
Eloi winced. "Oh, I... I'm so sorry." That sucked. That honestly sucked when things like that happened.
"Don't worry. Call it intuition, but I feel like you'll really do something great. Someday, your dreams of being a hero won't just be dreams. That's a promise, from a fellow Spiderman fan. That is, if you like Spiderman...?"
"Really? Thank you! I'll... I'll try. Maybe you'll do something great, too!" Elois glanced away, pulling his hat down further. "Y-Yeah... I do! I love Spiderman... He's so cool... I--"
He was struggling to decide whether to actually talk about it or change the subject when he was interrupted by a loud noise.
"H-Hey. Did you hear that? It sounded like a gunshot... Should we check it out?"
Eloi considered this for a moment. On the one hand, maybe they weren't supposed to check it out. But on the other... What if it was something really serious? What if it was... Something really scary?
He gulped nervously, and took Niwa's hand, he wasn't sure whether he wanted to for reassurance, to reassure Niwa, or... Both, maybe.
"Yeah. M-Maybe... This is the calling we've been waiting for. To... Um... Face our fears and- become heroes. Or something. Awk, that's cheesy, um... Let's check it out."
Cadence Laurier's POV
Should she head in there, though? Someone else was probably already taking care of it. Then again, she might have a responsibility...

Narcisse Michon
Oh great. Another headache. Narcisse massaged his forehead. And of course Detective Konstantin was at the heart of it. These people were determined to get grey hairs out of him before he hit fourty.
"Orientation is cancelled. We'll clear this up."
The girl with the bloody lip started to stand up, but he held out a hand, warning her. "Not you," he said coldly. "Both of you, stay." He turned to Detective Konstantin with a glare. "I don't know how, but you're definitely involved in this. All three of you are going to come with me to my office and we're going to discuss this. Like adults. Understood?"
She opened her mouth.
"Understood?"
She closed it.
"Good. Everyone else, you're free to leave. This party's over. It never should've been a thing to begin with."
Niwa Atsushi
"Heroes... yeah." Niwa smiled at him, accepting the hand in his. "Let's go."
The two made their way towards the doors. As they stepped through, fresh night air wafted over them. It was chilly for an October night, and the clouds on the horizon promised an even colder day to follow.
He chuckled nervously.
“I was doing my work! I swea! Cross my ehart and hope to… eh… lose a finger? Not die.”
He rubbed his palms together, smiling sheepishly.
“Just because of my historuy with… uh, misadventures does not mean I’m always responsible!"
He laughed.
“Can I go back? I need to catch up on slee- paperwork!"

Oh boy. Detective Palpatine had made a fatal error.
Head Detective Michon's eyes began to glint with an ancient kind of evil she imagined only existed in mummies and ancient ungodly beings. "Detective Konstantin... I will be seeing you in my office, correct?"
"Yep! Yep he will!" Andreja yelped. She snatched the dumbass by the arm and started dragging him towards the hall. "Haha, silly Dark Lord! You totally didn't mean to defy Michon or anything! It was a slip of the tongue! You're so dumb sometimes!"
"Um, if I may-" the baby intern began.
She shot him a glare. Do not tangle with eldritch forces.
His mouth closed.
Aleks sighed, letting himself be dragged along.
“I didn’t even do anything this time! Promise! It wasn’t my fault! This is a breach of my rights!”
Aleks groused and grumbled.
“I have work to do! Come on, let me do my bare minumum!"

The three troublemakers were now in his office. Here's to the hope that they don't burn down my new rug, he thought darkly. Causing trouble at the initiation of all things...
"Would you like anything?" he asked, busying himself with the bookshelf in the corner. "I can get you some water or even wine if you're of age... though I suppose you've probably drank your fair share."
He turned in all three.
"Really... what other reason would you have for starting a fight on your first day? When we can cut you out of the program with a neat letter to your parents?"
He glanced at Detective Konstantin. "Don't think I've forgotten about you. Your lack of work ethic is well documented in your file. You're on thin ice as it is."
Adrik Volkov
Adrik was forced to watch helplessly as his new friend was dragged off by the Head Detective. It's not fair... he was defending me. Is he going to get punished for that?
Waves of guilt rippled through him. He bit his lip and tried to choke back a sob. He was 15. He was supposed to be beyond that by now. But still... he scrunched up his nose, fighting back tears. It was so stupid.
I should be the one punished. If I'd just let her say whatever the hell she wanted, everything would be okay. It's my fault...
"Oh, that must hurt, huh?"
Adrik jolted back to reality. A person was in front of him, smiling at him. They had long, curly brown hair that seemed to go in all directions. The outfit they wore was that of a...
Oh no.
"You just went pale," Detective Mawer teased. Her eyes glinted with mischief. "Everything all right there, intern? You need to sit down?"
"D-Detective," he stammered.
Third Person POV
The whole room seemed to drop in temperature. Narcisse's glare grew more and more murderous and intense. Shadows started creeping from behind the wastebasket.
Was that a tentacle behind him?
Best not to question such things.
Andreja smiled sweetly and twirled her pen. Not so subtly, she jabbed Aleksandr in the shoulder.
His fingers tapped against the side of his leg.
“Rude.”
He rolled his eyes, huffing.
“Look, I didn’t do anything today! I swear! Not my fault this time!”
He raised his hands defensively.
“It was all her!”
he pointed at Andreja.

Andreja Buivis
This guy was a confirmed idiot. Andreja considered sending a brief prayer for his soul, but decided against it in case Michon did turn out to be some god-of-chaos like figure and he got her well wishes. She prided herself on her lack of self preservation, but good lord did she draw the line at eldritch abominations.
"You..." Michon said slowly. He lifted his finger. "Are on. Thin. Ice. Firing you would be an act of leniency. I'm thinking dorm duty for a month? Public service? Caring for Detective Mawer's quarters, perhaps?"
Okay, he was sadistic. That was confirmed.
She shuddered. Nora's pomeranian, demon in puppy flesh. That thing was terrifying. It probably ate the souls of children for breakfast. And oh boy did it sh*t them out. That thing produced feces on mass. She would not be surprised to learn that it was eating nuclear waste considering the smell.

You know the first rule in combat? Shoot them before they shoot you.
he made a zipping motion with his hand, laughing nervously.
“I can do cleaning, but actually helping people for free? no siree!”
he waved his hands in front of him, grinning sheepishly.

"I don't think you 'shut up' fast enough," he said silkily. "Perhaps the lesson hasn't sunk in yet? I'm not hearing too much respect in that tone of yours."
"I respect you sir," the girl said meekly.
He shot her a glare. "Thin. Ice."
Andreja Buivis
"Good." Michon smiled cryptically.
Andreja barely withheld a shudder. That guy was 110% absolutely f*cking insane. She would not touch the crazy. She would not interact with it, she would not bother it, she would not-
Oh, who was she kidding.
"It was his fault." She jabbed intern kid with her pen. "I would never risk my precious position as investigative assistant in such a manner. The thought is simply ridiculous!"
The ultimate tactic to taking the eldritch beings off your trail- throwing someone else under the bus. It was hilarious and perfectly evil. You know, sometimes it could be hard, being as genius and beautiful as she, but you could always find a way to make it work.
♟️Laurence Walton's POV📖
In her defense, though, he could have walked away. Instead he had fought back. Maybe this never would have happened if it hadn't been for him. He didn't want to deny it, that would be undignified. But to not deny it, to accept the blame... Oh, he could say goodbye to the degree he had so desperately hoped for. His parents would probably prefer to let him drop dead on the street than come home anything but victorious.
He wasn't even supposed to be here! Why had he gone and gotten involved? Stupid Laurence. Stupid. You're not usually like this! Of all the shameful--
"No. It's alright, I am responsible. She provoked me, and I overreacted. It was my fault, not hers. It was incredibly undignified behavior on my part, sir, and I..." He lowered his head. "I offer you my sincerest apologies. If you should have me banned from the internship program, or punished in any other way, I... Wouldn't blame you. In the least."
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! SAVE YOURSELF. YOU ARE SO DEAD! SOME FUTURE YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE!! You just threw away ANY CHANCE of saving the situation!
"It was... A pleasure meeting you all. Not one that I deserved. I'm sorry for everything."
Despite the lack of a stammer in his voice, his tightened shoulders still shook. His voice still wobbled slightly, as did the rest of him. Only his tone carried the illusion of composure, and only slightly.
I should tell the truth about what happened. But... I wouldn't want to throw Andreja under the bus like she did me. After how I reacted, I'm no better than she is. I don't deserve to be here.
🌧️Eloi Torres's POV🧣
He didn't really want to let go of his friend's hand, for fear of what the noise might have been. Maybe he still wasn't that brave yet.

Aleks put a hand on Lawrence's shoulder.
"Oh, to go back to the time when I was an intern, so young, and full of life... nah, no I wasn't."
Aleks chuckled.
"No need to shift the blame on this poor boy, right? Nobody- except her-" he pointed at Andreja. "-got hurt! So basically nobody important, right?"
Aleks smiled sunnily.
