Now that Halloween’s over, the real horror can begin: NaNoWriMo.
But first...
Two references in the first post; three if the title counts. I might exchange plushies with anyone who gets them all.

Title: PHIL + NaNo Day 1
• Finished the Raylóng quest and got my beautiful dragon baby on Halloween!
• Nappy was a nightmare to catch, good God.
• Found the first Machine Part at the Rocky Cave. Only took seven years, but you know... better late than never.
• I’m so close to getting the 25K Candy New Halloween Event Pokémon. Like, scarily close. Started today at Level 8 with 8.5K candies and as of this post I’m Level 9 with 18.7K. Like?? Whoa?! I just might be able to get the forme-change items at the very least, if not both the Glitch mons as well, before the event ends. Maybe even the shiny plushie too. If I’m not mistaken, I believe I got all 10 of the Featured Event mons (one of which is my first self-hatched shiny!), so I won’t have to worry about them anymore.
• This place has taken my attention over PFQ, simply because there’s more to do. I finished the Halloween event there in 2 hours. I’m still grinding over here. I’ll do a full comparison later.
• Gems work so differently here and it’s absolutely wild to me. It’s actually kind of frightening how different the gem culture is around here compared to PFQ.
• Clicking. Good GOD how do people stand to click here? I have to make the hitbox bigger every time I open a clicklist, and when it hits me with the “Are you human?” security measure, I have to resize it again, and it’s annoying. On the bright side, I can do 500 interactions far quicker here, and on mobile too. You win some, you lose some, I suppose. Currency is harder to get here too. For all intents and purposes, I still consider myself a beginner, and the culture shock is real.

I have so many stories cooking in my head. I’ll edit in brief summaries for some of them later. I won’t be doing a full novel this year—instead, it’ll be a series of oneshots. An anthology, if you will. There’s only one subject I can stand to let myself just write with absolutely no pressure to be perfect, and I’ve been meaning to get back into it for some time now. Also, I don’t know when I started staying up so late again, but I don’t like it.

Title: PHIL + NaNo Day 2
• Clicking for candy is aaaaaa. I’ll need 63K total and I don’t think I’ll make it. At the very least, I want the eggs, which will be 30K Sweets, and I’ll be Level 10 by the end of the day my time.
• I keep sending out the 10y anni Mareep plushie when I have enough DP. Would be nice to get one back, but I’m not gonna cry if I don’t lol.
• Edit: Welp, Level 10 before 10PM and it looks like I won’t be getting the forme-change items, nor the shiny plushie. But if I grind enough today and tomorrow I’ll have gotten all the eggs, so that’s something. Maybe I can grind enough for the Teddiursa forme-change item, but that’s as far as I’ll get :/
Bro, it’s only been two days and I’ve already hit a snag. Fantastic. I know I just said this was the one area where I’m completely at ease, but man does it feel extra clunky this time. We all have those parts we just don’t want to write, and I’m there right now.
Midnight Edit: I know what went wrong. I didn’t stick to the pre-write. I had the broad strokes planned and decided to take it in another direction last minute, and that screwed me over. Ugh. Why.
I had an idea for a Pokémon story a while back (we’re talking years) with my Sailor Moon OCs. Writing Pokémon and playing Pokémon are two very different things, and I haven’t touched the anime in years to see what kind of BS they get away with to go by that. I did use PvPoke to sub in for the first battle, and that seemed to work out alright.

Before long, she runs into Streetsmart Tomboy Chick who invites herself to tag along. Tomboy teaches Rich Girl on battling and generally how to take care of herself. It gets very messy. Not sure if anyone wants the twists, but maybe when I have more time.

• I still don’t know how the Gem Exchange works in terms of ratios, and at this point I’m afraid to ask lol.
• I don’t appreciate the lag when I’m going through clicklists. I want to think it’s the system telling me to slow down or take a break without throwing the “R U HUM4N?!” popup at me, but still. I’m amazed I was able to do as much on SCS as I did since the lag was worse then.

Getting my stride in the writing department, so that’s swell. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up soon! Also need to remember that while I do get an extra hour of writing, times in games have not changed. Reset is at 4PM my time now, I think?

• I love that edits aren’t documented, and neither are exact times. Also, are we allowed to curse here?
• It’s funny how going to the Toolshed doesn’t open a new tab, but going directly to the Berrygarden does.
• Still annoyed about Greg. Why offer if it’s not on the table? I put my female Machoke with my Hitmontop and they just wasted over 1K PD in the damn daycare for absolutely nothing.
• Speaking of the Daycare, how does it work here? On PFQ you click 64 and you get a chance at an egg. There’s also percentages that go up to 99%, and some added things that influence like happiness, level gap, same species and body size. Here, it just seems to be if they’re from two different people and that’s that. Also annoyed how you can’t just release eggs you don’t want, you have to wait til it flushes itself out.
• My least favorite Dream World task is clicking mons on the Index page.

Girl wakes up at the nurse’s office at
her high school. She’s dressed for going out, complete with her
wallet and whatever was in her school bag, despite knowing she went
to bed in pajamas the night before. She has her ID on her, but
she’s not registered in the system. Her house still stands, but
it’s not hers anymore; instead, the school butt-monkey lives
there.
She realizes she’s been dropped into a world in which she does not exist. Her hometown is virtually unchanged aside from this. The girl who was her best friend in her world, Vera, is still here, but, of course, this version of her doesn’t know who she is.
And to top it all off, the day before was her birthday, and her wish was to be able to spend more time with Vera.
With nowhere else to go, she heads to the local library. While gathering her bearings, she finds someone has slipped a mysterious tape in her bag, alongside a note to bring said tape to Vera later that evening. So she bides her time, and she goes. Turns out, Vera is hosting a movie night with two other girls, but they can’t agree on a movie to watch. Vera invites her in. They watch the movie she brings.
Big mistake.
The movie is her only link to the world she came from. It shows her the bad things her Vera had done, and this Vera is adamant that, while those events did happen, it did not happen like that. She didn’t do half the things that girl who shares her name did. Needless to say, everyone is upset, and Girl is horrified.
After the movie, when everyone is sent home, she tries to reason with Vera. She never would’ve showed the tape if she knew what was on it, and she didn’t look beforehand because it didn’t seem right to peek at something which wasn’t meant for her. She didn’t plan this, she doesn’t know who gave it to her, and she doesn’t know why she has to deliver it. She tells Vera who she is, that she’s from a different universe, another timeline where they’re best friends, and she has the photos to prove it, photos she always keeps on her since they’ve grown distant. To her relief, this Vera believes her, offers her a place to crash, and promises to help her find a way home. They end the night on good terms, sleeping side by side in Vera’s bed, and for the first time that day, she has hope things are going to get better.
And then the next day, she wakes up in the nurse’s office again. I really thought since this niche is one where I can write as bad as I want and still have it be good (when the bar is just literally using proper SPAG, like just having it be readable, like, c’mon!), I’d be killing NaNo. But not only am I out of practice writing for this subject in particular, I’m not even all that enthused about it, and that’s really screwing me over. Ugh.

• I sold something via the GTS last night... but then I went to bed and I don’t remember what it was lmao.
• I wish there was a way to change the date appearance from Day/Month to Month/Day, even if it only affects the user who set it. I honestly can’t remember if I signed up for this site in May or September of 2016. When I see 9/5 I think September. It’s only when it gets to impossible numbers like 13/11 do I remember, oh, right, Day/Month exists. I think I signed up on May 9th then.
• Looking this up, my entirely inactive girlfriend has more plushies than I do. Entirely because of me lmao. I gifted her all the plushies I could, and she would’ve gotten the badge for it ages ago!
• I’m so close to getting a Level 50 berry and finishing the HS quest! Only took seven years, but. At least gardening isn’t that much of a pain in terms of a waiting game, kinda. The seed makers on the other hand...
• Breeding, however, still a pain. I don’t know how I’m going to get/catch up on events otherwise. Ditto is always a pain to get in any Pokémon clicker game, it seems. Well, aside from PFQ giving you a Ditto voucher. But even then, the breeding rates are gross so it’s hardly worth all the effort. I guess the point is to get it and trade it.

• 10:00 Woo just spent 340K recovering Pokémon I released the last time I was here two years ago and thought I’d never touch this game again.
• I’m an idiot who cross-referenced items from the Item Shop to the GTS... and still bought from the shop, which is more expensive. But I can easily work up 19.8K PD back so... I guess. Am I doing this just to keep from writing a hard bit? Yeah.

• Gems. Eternally looking for Dragon, Fairy, and Bug Gems. I don’t have access to Galar, so rumbling is out; I don’t have a good grasp on the Gem Exchange (coming from PFQ the rates are jarring, absolutely staggering) and I don’t even know where to begin; and scam artist Greg the Gleeper asking for Dragon Gems and Fairy Gems for the Kalos legends is just... none of this seems worth it to me. I still hate being forced to have a living dex, and I hate having to pay such steep prices for literally everything when they’re things that are already so hard to get.
• Ditto. Why are you always so damn expensive? 10K Normal Gems, are you kidding me? And I have to bother someone else to borrow their blob to even get the damn egg from Greg the Gleeper in the first place? Gems are at least somewhat easier to come by thanks to rumbling, but dammit I hope you’re worth it. I pray breeding rates with you don’t suck. Don’t be like PFQ in that regard, please. All this for a tiny blob that looks like it’ll stick to the wall like one of those sticky hand toys. And forget the Lab Ditto, I’m not grabbing every single Normal egg that pops up in the vain hope it’ll turn out to be a Ditto, my luck is horrible.
• All I can really do is send plushies. I send as many 10y Anni Meeps to as many people as I can. I mostly play slots in Legend mode, fishing is fine but unreliable, and Bulletin Board requests ask too much for far too little.
• I just want a reliable (preferably quick) way to get these elusive gems whenever I want so when I eventually choose to take on these time-consuming, money-stealing, extremely expensive quests, I won’t feel like I wasted my time, effort, money, and items for some glorified pixels. There are definite benefits PFQ has over PH regarding the entire point of the site. I’m still gonna make that comparison list one of these days. After NaNo though, of course.
• I want to do all I can myself without bothering anyone for help. The social anxiety is so real, my God, I hate it. I hate being this way.

• Lmao I was so excited to unlock Paldea Research and after seeing the tasks for research points I just start cheesing it. I will gladly do 2K interactions instead of hatching Dragon eggs spawned from the Lab!
• Found 6 Dragon Gems in a Gold Box. YEAAAH!
Day 13 Word Count: 891
I’m terrible at writing mysteries. Terrible at solving them too. My brain is more than halfway off and I struggle to piece things together when it’s all in such disarray (especially on the first go) because I’m more interested in what happens rather than how or why. One thing leads to another which leads to another which leads to yet another, and before you know it you’re neck-deep with ten different paths to take and—cue analysis paralysis.
On the one hand, my inability to solve anything makes it fun because you can throw a twist at me and I’m always going to look like :O
On the other, when I do try to solve it, I never get it lol. Well, except for Rarity Investigates. I adore that episode. I love the film noir aesthetic, but damn am I too dumb to follow it lol. But I still love studying the mechanics of writing mysteries. I figure if I can crack the code I’ll crack the case. I’ve tried writing backwards, but no dice. Yet.
That said, I don’t think I can sit through an Agatha Christie novel (I don’t remember which one I started, but I gave up quite quickly; I’m tempted to say it was And Then There Were None though). I’ve listened to the original Sherlock stories, watched the BBC series, fell in love with Miss. Sherlock (RIP to Yuko Takeuchi, oh my god ;w;), simpled for the Honorable Miss Phryne Fisher (God, do I wish I could read the books!), and adored Agatha Christie’s Marple (the first three series, anyway). Schoolgirl Detectives (or Seoman Girls High School Investigators) and Solomon’s Perjury are two of the three Korean shows I really ever got into. Not to mention Archie’s Weird Mysteries was my introduction to the Archie gang as a kid.

I feel like I’m overdoing the dialogue a lot in this work. And I’m also overthinking it. To make NaNo this year I thought I’d have to do just 2K per work and I’d have it made. But it’s been a struggle, even with my prewriting.

• I’m tired of the constant gateway timeouts. And I know it’s not on my end because everything else loads just fine. What the hell?
• When it comes to shiny hunting on here, I’m aware I’m at a disadvantage (not being premium and all) but I’m not sure how much. All my pairs have terrible breeding rates because I’m trying to breed for events. Might just start with a low EXP mon and work my way up from there. Magikarp it is... whenever I get around to it.

• Got Rainbow. Had to wake up real early for it too. And I’m still not done with the quest? I have to do it AGAIN? RESTART? HELL NO. There will definitely be some I will not get because it’s just too much. Like the Honey Tree one. God. Nappy is absolutely horrible.
• Obsidianix coming in clutch AGAIN with the Machine Part! Woot! No more wasting time in the Silent Forest!
• How is it that hatching today with a x2 bonus is still like pulling teeth?
Social anxiety sucks, man. I feel like such a bother asking people for help on here, and it’s so dumb.
Also really gonna try to do the writing method where I jump around and write whatever comes to me for whichever chapter has my fancy at the moment. Sounds like utter torture to a linear writer like me, but hey. Might as well. This damn mystery one is so clunky, I hate it. This year’s work is not my best. Ew.

• Yooo I hatched my first Mega-Able mon! A Mega-Able Scyther!
• “Your Gem Cauldron has finished boiling! ... But what is that!! Instead of the expected result, your cauldron produced a Mystery Key (Black)!” If I didn’t spent two days boiling my first Mega Stone (I didn’t use an Odd Incense), I’d be more excited.
• “You push the black key carefully into the hole, turn it twice to the left and... cccrrk!! The mystery box opens and you look curiously in it... 1x Full Moon Island (Map) found! The key breaks and becomes useless.” At least it’s useful!
Today’s Word Count: 400+?
I think I might just stop NaNo this year. I’m 10K behind and I’m not going to catch up. Plus, the works are crap. Complete and utter crap.
