Title: Life Update
My other English class is about short stories. Particularly, in the art of brevity. I spent all of last year posting daily double drabbles for my favorite ship only to turn around and have to do it all over again for this class lol.
Other than all the reading and some writing, things are going so great. The commute is easy, my legs are adjusting to the walking (though I do still get winded past a certain point; there’s a good walk between campus and the train), my body is getting used to waking up at a reasonable time in the actual morning even before my alarm goes off, I’ve met so many cool people, and I only need to be up and about four times a week (Fridays are for therapy lol). This year will mark a whole decade together with my beautiful girlfriend, whom I love with everything in me. I’ve gotten into tarot thanks to her making me watch Agatha All Along (after WandaVision, natch, for context), and in exchange she FINALLY watched The Sound of Music (and she LOVED it). Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and—though I’m not exactly enthused about it—there’s talk of traveling to the elders’ home country over spring break. Life is good. I’m on the rag at the moment so that sucks, but in general, life is great.
The only thing I will say is that the imposter syndrome has hit me hard. Like, damn. Not only do I feel extra dumb in my vampire class (again, things would be so much easier if I liked the source!) but listening to everyone else’s pieces for my short story class makes me feel like I did the assignment wrong lol. It doesn’t help I submitted my first piece the way we were taught to do so in high school (LastName,FirstName_AssignmentName) which puts me at the very end in terms of presenting. I’ll need to fix that. I suppose that’s why the professor has us put names in the assignment itself.
Overall, I’m doing well. And I don’t even have to keep track of how many days it’s been.
Title: Epic the Musical
All these songs are bangers but the ones I’ve gotten stuck in my head this week since being recommended the musical are (in order)
- Open Arms (Polites my beloved!)
- Warrior of the Mind (Athena’s VA is PHENOMENAL)
- God Games (Had Athena and Hera’s exchange in my head all yesterday lol)
- Love in Paradise (I feel for Calypso, man.)
Wouldn’t You Like (Hermes’ laugh is everything!)
I might’ve missed one... can’t think of it right now though; something with Circe, I think? That’s my favorite saga lol. Also, the difference between this Hermes and André de Shields’ Hermes in Hadestown is jarring but so good.
Question for those in the know:

If Polites survived the Polyphemus
incident, do you suppose he would’ve gone for Circe’s
invitation?
Title: Life Update
Kinda regret my major tbh? I’m doing way more reading than writing, and when I am writing, it’s never the kind I want to be doing. But that’s par for the course, I guess, if I want to apply to the actual program I want to be in.
Now I have two weeks to focus on what I want to write. Oh, and also my health, I guess. Thanks to finals I’ve been staying up til 4am trying to finish them. But now I can catch up on some sweet sleep.
Aaaaa now I can do research to plan out my novel by watching more films with my newest favorite actress. Luckily, her stuff isn’t all that hard to find, unlike my last favorite (still love her though!). Unluckily, she’s been dead for the last two decades and there’s no interviews of hers to read so finding out what she was like off the set is nigh-impossible :/
Life is great. YouTube generally sucks ATM, but life is generally great.
• First and foremost, just got off the rag, so I’m free of that pain for the next little while!
• I’m crocheting more (I’ll have my beautiful hexicardi for Pride month!)
• I’m getting the creative juices flowing for the first time in the last three months (leisure-wise; my required poetry class counts not), which means...
• I can do the fun research I want! Which includes getting lost in TV Tropes rabbit holes and watching films featuring beautiful women with haunting eyes and delightfully deep voices.
• And I guess now I can really get started on poetry since I won’t have to turn it in. I’ve been working on a cute contrapuntal (don’t know why that form has me by the neck, but leave it to me to choose one of the harder forms to get right! Thank God it wasn’t sonnets. Or Ekphrasis.) for my sweet little rarepair ship and I’m pleased with it. Figuring out the formatting when I eventually post it is going to be a pain, but I’ll get it.
• No one has any health problems (sans our beloved pet, but she’s doing pretty good these days!)
• I won’t have to leave the house for the next month (and suffer under the potentially scorching heat of summer) for my classes since they’re both online AND asynchronous, which means I can get a head start!
• I can sleep. That’s all. I can sleep in and rest up and not feel bad about it!
• I can catch up on reading. I want to revisit Dolores Claiborne again and start on some recs (one of which is ASoIaF. Despite the fact I just found out through my 202 class I despise Multi POV, I’m hoping reading for leisure and not pressure nor grade will make all the difference. I want to say the required reading material had something to do with it as well.)
• I can get back into gaming. My darling Canadian friend of over a decade recently gifted me, among other things, her Switch Lite (with a homemade pouch from her sweet little sister!) and a copy of Pokémon Sword and I’ve not had an opportunity to play it since its arrival. I was content with never experiencing anything beyond the movie-like Gen 7 (and only the first half, which was terrible), but apparently she was not lol.
• And last but certainly not least, this Pride month marks 10 years of dating my beautiful, sweet, hilarious darling of a girlfriend. A whole decade of dating. Low-key and drama-free. Gotta love it. I love her so much. And we’re in no rush for anything (clearly lol).
