Matty nodded in understanding as Calmia spoke about her friends scattered across the galaxies. She could relate, in her own way, to the idea of having connections that were physically distant yet emotionally meaningful. Her own experiences of forming friendships from a distance due to her work and her lingering imprint of magic had given her a small taste of that dynamic.

"I get that," Matty replied with a small, sympathetic smile. "Even when you care about someone a lot, sometimes life just gets in the way. It's... hard, but it's nice to have people you can connect with, even if it's not always in person." She fidgeted with a loose thread on her pants, her gaze distant for a moment as she thought about her own friendships and the challenges they sometimes posed.

She looked back at Calmia, her smile a bit wistful. "It's kind of amazing how you can form connections with people from all over, even if you don't see them often. It's like... distance doesn't always have to mean you're far apart." Her voice held a touch of quiet introspection, her own experiences coloring her perspective on the topic.

It was never meant to be.

Matty's cheeks tinged with a hint of pink as Calmia's question hit close to home. She let out a small, embarrassed chuckle, her gaze dropping to her lap as she admitted, "Yeah, I guess I am." Somehow, she felt comfortable sharing a bit of her own experiences, even though the topic was a bit delicate.

She looked back up at Calmia, her curiosity piqued by the mention of off-world messaging and calling systems. The concept was utterly foreign to her, a stark reminder of the technological differences between their worlds. "Wow, that sounds really advanced," Matty replied with genuine awe. "We don't have anything like that where I'm from. It must be really convenient to be able to stay connected even when you're far apart." She couldn't help but be impressed by the possibilities that such technology could offer in terms of maintaining relationships across vast distances.

Matty's curiosity was momentarily interrupted as Calmia shifted her attention to her phone. She watched as Calmia started typing, a curious mixture of amusement and understanding playing across her features. The idea of technology being so seamlessly integrated into someone's life, even in the midst of a conversation, was a bit surreal to her.

She couldn't help but chuckle as Calmia explained that it was her sister she was messaging. "Of course, no problem," Matty replied with a playful smirk. "Sisters have a way of demanding attention at the most inconvenient times." Not that she would know.

After a beat, her expression softened and she added, "Is everything okay, though? You seemed a bit... concerned." Her concern was genuine, her own experiences with family dynamics (ranging from okay to downright terrible), coloring her understanding of the situation.

It was never meant to be.
