Taro was behind Julius when the Athena entered the vent. He padded softly, trying not to make too much noise. Looking at the small gaps of metal underneath him, he could see the scientists in the lab, testing their new experiment on more ghosts. It seemed like this building had some connection to the afterlife.

Holding up a hand for Julius to stop, Athena mentally scanned the room. Deeming that it was safe, she pulled out her scissors once again and cut away the cover. Pulling it in, she laid it against the side of the vent, quite a tight fit. Hope you're ready for some action.

As Athena stopped, Taro did too. While Athena opened the vent, Taro took the time to observe his surroundings. The laboratory was mostly green, but with white occasionally. There were coffins full of ghosts that the experiments had failed on, and there were shattered test tubes on the floor. The occasional liquid spill here; your normal body parts there. A completely normal-looking science laboratory.

Suddenly, almost without warning, Athena launched herself from the vent onto the nearest scientist, quickly taking her down. The ambush plan worked, the scientists were caught completely off guard. Kick, dodge, punch, punch again, dodge again, kick...

Julius frowned. He saw someone go past the corner of his eye and he dodged backwards, sticking out an arm. A scientist threw a useless punch, leaping headfirst into Julius's fist. He shook his head at Athena who was trying to beat up the rest of these people. A fake gun formed in his hand and he pointed it at the scientists. "Ight. We're doing this the hard way or my way. On the wall." He handed the imaginary mic over to Athena and laid back on the wall, finger gripping the fake trigger.

If it worked, which it did, fine. Grabbing one of the unbroken test tubes, Athena carefully stowed it into her bottomless left pocket. Smashing the rest, she hissed at the scientists, "Where's the portal?"

Taro picked up another vial and placed it in his mouth, careful not to break the glass. Dodging around scientists who barged into the room, pointing their guns at them. He quickly ran into the vent where he poured the liquid downwards, splashing it on scientists' faces, which immediately dissolved. Taro gave his most wicked cat grin before jumping out of the vent and running towards Athena and Julius.

Kaori had just found her transmitter and opened it up, reminiscing at the sight of it. She immediately started typing: Athena? Where are you? Is Taro with you? she transmitted and sat down to await another fateful response. Hopefully they hadn't gotten themselves into trouble, but they probably did. And if they did, she'd have to be ready. And she would.

She hung her katana at her waist, and awaited Athena's reply...

We're good. Taro's with me. Just rest.

"I'll give you one last chance. Where. Is. The. Portal. And no, don't play dumb with me, how else would you get your test subjects?" Athena could just extract the information from their minds, but revealing she had telepathy to the scientists was equal to dumping a price on her head. She didn't need that right now.

Julius almost spewed at what Taro did. He decided next time to never underestimate that little murderer. He focused on Athena and helped her out. "Come on then. Where's the portal. Cause I'm shooting someone every minute those secrets ain't spilled."

The Cowardly Head Scientist

The head scientist looked at Athena and Julius, terrified. He opened his mouth to speak but one of his colleagues slapped their hand over his mouth, muffling him. Clearly the head scientist was very gullible and cowardly, and was prepared to spill all of the information. But the other scientists didn't. They wanted to keep the information a secret, especially away from Athena and Julius, and especially the cat. The cat had literally killed off fourteen of the scientists, and seemed to be prepared to kill more.

Ripping off the colleague's hand off his face, he started speaking, rushed. "Thesecretportalisinthebasement,andisalreadyon.Justgodownstairsandyou'llfindit."

Taro, hearing the location, immediately bolted downstairs, to the basement, where he found the portal.

"Awesome." Julius headed downstairs behind Taro, letting Athena beat up the rest. He watched the portal with unease as it swirled ominously. He was a little creeped out by the thing and sat down on a box, waiting for Athena.

Athena freed what was left of the ghosts. Ushering them into the basement, she gave the scientists a sweet smile then tossed something small and silver into the room, before disappearing down the stairs.
