As Keiki magically inserted the magical key into the magical invisible door, then it swung open to reveal...
A figure. It stood in front of them, face shadowed by an enormous headpiece. A rippling black cape blew behind him, fluttering in the wind, barely concealing the obsidian black chainmail armour that clasped his limbs and lower torso. Purple hair cascaded down, flowing past the shoulderplates.
"So you're finally here." Niwa's voice was calm. "I expected you sooner, Mage."
Narrator
"Delayed, you say?" A gloved hand swept up. Niwa turned on his heel, glaring straight at Keiki. His finger pointed accusingly. "Delayed is truly too kind a word. You were attacking the Southern Patrols; casting them into the Minotaur's Abyss! You cannot lie to me! I understand just how cruel a heart dwells within you. No, nothing will ever be enough for you."
He started pacing back and forth. "Do you know what it is like, to look into the faces of my armies? To promise to them that we will win this war? Knowing just what their fate will be, by your cruel hands? No-" he stopped. "You don't understand. You care naught for human life. Am I the only one who's more than your playtoy? Or am even I just an interesting piece for you to toy with?"
Niwa whipped to them again. "Answer me, Mage of the Highlands." His gloved hands dug into the belt of his cape and he glared at them with tears in his eyes. "What are humans to you, Monster of the Night?"
Narrator
Niwa recoiled, disgusted. "Foul beast! How dare you say such things?" His eyes blazed. "Funny? You think toying with our lives is funny? You can sit there and- and speak of your nails, while the thing which dirties them most of all is the blood of your victims?" His hand rested on his sword. "Apologize, if not to me, to the families you have cast into dimness!"
...
"I...uh- think there's a mistake here. I'm not this monster and all that- I never killed anyone- blood disgusts me...gets all over my clothes. Yuck."
"I'm just the fabulous old me, somehow turned up here in Loony-ville. I think you're mistaking me for someone else, Niwa, sweetie."
Narrator
Dream Niwa's cheeks flooded with heat. "S-Sweetie? How dare you- I don't- You don't-" He shook his head sharply, then settled on a glare, withdrawing his sword in a sheen of motion. "En garde, Mage of Darkness! Today, I shall take you down and end your reign of tyranny for good!"
He pointed his sword at them. "Withdraw your weapon! Today, we shall both make our final stands. I will not permit you to continue your massacre any longer and you will not admit guilt for your actions. We shall see just which will is stronger." He straightened up. "If I win, then you will apologize to those you have wronged."
Narrator
Niwa's face became red. "Demon! Have you no heart?" He puffed out his chest, taking an intimidating step forward. "This is your final chance. Make good on our promise from when we were children."
His cheeks faded back. He stared at Keiki, sadness pooling in his eyes. "Keiki." He offered his palm. "I don't want to hurt you. Surely underneath these... deflective mockings, you're there. So-" he hesitated. Niwa took in a deep breath and with it, his eyes hardened. "Turn yourself in. Apologize to those who have suffered from this war. I will... I promise to visit you, wherever they put you. You will not go to die."
Narrator
Niwa faltered. "Where do you... go to do it?" he asked. Then he froze in time, colour seeping from him. The entire world went black and white, every shade besides greys and whites and blacks gone.
A message, like a computer error bar appeared in front of Keiki. "Warning:" it read, "If the object of LS's dream is disproven, then he/she/they will wake up and experience negative stress, potentially leading to crying and/or object throwing. Continue?"
Narrator
The colour returned to the world. Niwa was staring at Keiki mournfully.
"I can still see you in there," he said quietly. "Keiki, please. Stop all of this. We can be- together, again. Even if you don't want..." Tears sprung to his eyes. "Keiki-" He reached out a hand, faltered, and it fell to his side.
An owl churred from a tree. Niwa continued looking right at Keiki, pink eyes glimmering with unshed tears.
Narrator
"Keiki... do you mean that?" Niwa stepped forward. He raised a trembling hand to brush Keiki's cheek. "Are you certain? This... you're willing to abandon your massacre? Repent for the souls you have harmed?"
His eyes welled with tears.
"Keiki, I-"
