BING BONG BING!
"PUHUHHU!" Monokuma's face broadcast over every monitor in the school. "The first day is over~ The students have formed alliances. Different factions have split off and with them, each cute little boy or girl has made a promise! Will these promises be kept? How will these students be torn apart? Until next time, lovely roleplayers!"
The screen shut off.
And with it, another day began.
Nagisa Aoki's POV
Then, her thoughts came flooding back, and determination filled her wide blue eyes, as he jolted out of bed. "Niwa! Amano!" Nagisa shook his two roommates awake. "I- oh my goodness. Wait. I'm sorry! I woke you so rudely! But, today... is really important." Nagisa clasped at his vest nervously, only just realizing as she did so that she'd been sleeping in her clothes... not that that really mattered in an urgent time like this.
"We need to head on out there to the cafeteria, and show everyone we can get out of here, together! S-So, will you two come with me?" he asked.
Suzume Fujimori's POV
Ah. It was a dream. How odd dreams were. In a school like this, though, she wouldn't be surprised if it were a reality. Something considerably confusing about her dreams were that she could almost feel the breath going from her lungs... She shook her head. Today was a new day. She approached Megami.
"Good morning, Megami," she told her roommate. "It's probably not a good idea to rest when anyone could try to kill you. Well- never mind, pretend I didn't say that! Oh! Well, let's just- head to the cafeteria, shall we? There will be plenty of people there, so, it might be best to just humor the announcement." She awaited her dormmate's response,
Femi Davis's POV
Femi awoke, gasping. He grabbed at his own neck, instinctively. He... he was breathing. That- was a relief. Then he paled again, glancing over at Suko. He wasn't sure if he could trust his dormmate, not at all. Could they really... be friends?
He wasn't so good at the friends thing. Part of him wanted to wake his "friend" up. But much more of him wanted to let him sleep... let him sleep, don't disturb him, don't let him-
Femi Davis slithered away and tried not to break down crying. Ugh, he had to stop doing that... he just couldn't trust this "Suko", or anyone here. He couldn't trust... anyone. Especially not...
Kowai Kurai's POV
Hisoka, who she wasn't so sure she liked. Oh, she'd kill him alright, if she could afford to. And the musician?... What was the name, Kunai? Oh, she seemed okay. A nervous wreck, though.
She pondered, then, should she awaken them? Pretend to go back to sleep? Perhaps she could overhear something if she pretended to sleep. So she did. She pretended to go back to sleep...

Around the School
"Ding dong ding! Morning has arrived! The students are still locked inside of Hope's Peak Academy. Will they ever escape? Or remain trapped forever?!" Monokuma's cackles rang through the halls. "I wish you all a wonderful first day~! Remember our school motto. Chills... Thrills... Kills! Do your best to uphold it~ Puhuhuuhuhuuh~"
And then every screen around the school went black.
Third Person POV
"Oh... morning already?" Niwa scrunched his eyes against the light, rubbing his face. "Didn't expect that. Didn't... think I'd sleep so much. Or something..." He yawned, exposing a row of shiny white teeth.
"Up!" In a flash, Niwa's face had collided with the floor, his blanket swept out of his grasp by Amano. "We must meet our fellow students at the cafeteria! If we are late, there will be no trust between us. This is our one chance to begin a proper relationship with our fellow Ultimates of Hopes' Peak Academy!"
Amano's eyes blazed with intensity. At his feet, Niwa moaned, pained noises escaping his throat.
"Can't I sleep?" he whined.
Amano ignored him, instead sweeping out of the room, leaving the two behind.
"Guess that's a no," Niwa grumbled, finally sitting up, untangling himself from the few remains of his blanket. He stood up, rubbing his head, and then turned to Nagisa. "We better go after him. Before he gets himself murdered." Niwa's eyes drooped, but he managed a small smile. "Dumbass..."
Suko Nobu
Suko had been staring at their dormmate for an entire two hours, and yet still he continued doing that weird wriggling worm thing on his bed. At this point, it was honestly becoming a little concerning. Was someone dying? Was he having a nightmare? Had Suko accidentally slipped some cyanide-
Suko gave a jerk. He was awake!
Then a grin spread over their face.
"Hiya!" they chirped, throwing themself at him.
Hisoka Yamanaku
As all Yamanaku's, Hisoka would wake up at an early hour. 5:25 on the dot, where he would spend the morning getting ready for a day of social climbing. It was important to get adequate sleep for such a schedule. One's brain did not function on four hours.
Which was how much he approximated he got last night.
With a guttural groan, he dragged his aching body out of bed. Everything hurt. Why was he awake. Why was he following some stupid Cafeteria schedule when he should be barricading himself in a room?
Allies, his brain helpfully told him. You need to make them in order to survive. Without connections, you are invariably screwed. That is why you must wake up at strange times in the morning on little to no sleep. This is all done to preserve something important. Your life.
Hisoka told his brain to shut up because he didn't need logic on four hours of sleep. It was already making his headache worse.
He quickly got dressed inside of the bathroom, where he then proceeded to fix his hair and brush his teeth to shiny perfection.
And then he threw a pillow at Kowai's head which was admittedly petty, but an effective way to wake up someone you didn't like when you were sleep-deprived.
He then proceeded to yell, thoroughly waking up the other rat hiding in the room.
"WAKE UP! WE'RE HEADING TO THE CAFETERIA!"
Hisoka Yamanaku
Hisoka scowled at her. His dark mood was quickly dissolving into something even more foul. "I don't care," he replied snidely. "We're heading off to the cafeteria now, before we're late. If you don't want to come, you can stay and rot here. But don't blame me when you end up stuck on someone's knife."
Before she could reply, he whipped on his heel, hair whipping dramatically behind him. "Let's go Kowai."
"Alright, just a sec." Out of instinct, I threw my pillow at where my alarm clock normally is, but instead hit my notebook on the floor.

I was in the cafeteria with Magician Boy and he was telling me about what he'd found. "I already reported my findings on the people to Meg just before bed, but I didn't tell her about the way I found to sneak through the school. I wanted to save that for this morning. So basically..."
Majikaruman Dōseiai-shadearimasu
I started explaining where to find a certain broom closet which had a panel that led into the walls. It's a tight fit, but it's possible to squeeze in.
Kowai Kurai's POV
She got up, sat up, stood up, tilted her head at Kanai. "Oh! Hisoka, maybe she's not hungry. But- uhhh- Kunai? Kanai? Whatever your name is? Can I call you Fiddle?" She giggled. Wow, that sounds super dumb. She put her hands on her hips, cheery, shiny smile upon her lips. "Butttttt- even if you're not hungry, it's probably best we head to the cafeteria, even if that means Hisoka is right," she grumbled. "So could you come up with usssss? Pleaseee? I think it might be the best course of action right now!"
Pleading, sparkling, massive puppy eyes. Though reddish-brown, like bloodstains.
Nagisa Aoki's POV
"I- wouldn't call him that!! But- it's probably a bad idea for him to be out there, all alone, we should definitely go after him!" Although, even Nagisa had to admit, that enthusiasm was almost a little exhausting. He sighed in frustration. "Alright, Niwa, let's go. I know- you probably want to sleep right now, but- we have to get in there!"
Femi Davis's POV
Femi inhaled and exhaled, and after a few minutes, forced himself to speak. "Okay, okay. Sorry. Good... morning." Great. Nice and awkward. Perfect. Just. Fantastic.

Niwa Atsushi
"Ah, I was just kidding." His yawn betrayed his lie. Hoping to distract from his flushed face, he quickly said. "So uh, I guess we'd better go, huh?" He was on his feet, hurrying past the door, avoiding Nagisa's eyes. "Yep! Off to the Cafeteria so we can watch Amano get murdered!"
That probably wasn't the thing he was supposed to say. But who cared at this point anyway? He already looked like an idiot.
Masking a groan, he made his way down the hall, Amano's back finally coming into sight. The taller (boy? man? gangly teenager?) was rushing down the hall at a pace that seemed too fast- even for him. Was he worried about something?
Niwa frowned a bit, but continued hurrying after him. They would arrive at the cafeteria soon. Soon, the students would try to work out a plan to protect one another. If Amano truly believed they could do that as he had suggested, then why was he so concerned?
Could it be...?
Hisoka Yamanaku
Hisoka ignored the blabber of the rabble behind him, instead choosing to leave the room and starting down the hall. It was as dim and disquieting as ever- and he found his heartbeat finally calming down. His eyes felt better too. And the tiredness flooding his veins had finally decided to give his brain a break.
He eased out a sigh. And then went rigid.
Am I alone?
His heart started pounding at the question.
"Hello?" he called.
"Hello."
His heart stopped temporarily. That voice...
"Oh. You."
Chika Tsukamoto stepped out from the shadows. The two of them stared at each other for a long moment. Then the usual sneer settled onto both of their lips. "Heading to the cafeteria?" Hisoka asked coolly.
"Yes. I intend to be on time."
Hisoka snorted.
"Guess that'll be nice. For once in your life."
The two glared daggers at each other. Then Hisoka rolled his eyes and walked away. Chika followed him. It set his teeth on edge.
Would she try and stab him in the back? Surely not. She had the brains to come up with something more in-depth. And you didn't exactly target someone you were known to hate.
Hisoka stopped at the door to the cafeteria, and then slipped inside, Chika following close behind.
Suko Nobu
"Good morning!" Suko chirped, hugging him tighter. "You're awake! I was waiting for you! We're gonna play Snakes 'N Ladders today!" With a cheerful laugh, they released Femi, collapsing back on their back. They grinned up at him. "It's my favouritest game in the world! You get to hug snakes!"
Like we just hugged! they wanted to add, but Femi still looked so confused by the hug that they decided against it. "We can also work out! And hug! And set people we don't like on fire!" Fire is great! Let's set things on fire! Perfect start to a blossoming friendship!
Nagisa Aoki's POV
He sneezed several times on the way there. Oh, no, not again!! What was it with these hallways and being so dusty?! He'd have to clean them up at some point if she ever got the chance to... Shaking her head, he headed off to the cafeteria, looking behind to ensure Niwa was following. But, Nagisa, besides hope and determination, was filled with something else…
A prickling sensation, a sensation of fear and uncertainty of Niwa. But why?...
Kowai Kurai's POV
But, she might get discovered, didn't want to look all stalker-ish. "Ah, jeez, Hisoku! W-Were you going to leave me behind? I feel offended!" She looked to be on the verge of tears. She pretended to notice Chika for the first time. "Oh, hey! Who is this?" She tilted her head. "I don't know if I've seen you before!"
Suzume Fujimori’s POV
I wonder if I can trust Megami. She hasn’t proven to be untrustworthy, at least not yet, and she seems to be rather intelligent. I think I should be careful around her, though, you never know who you can trust…
Femi Davis’s POV
“Please stop that… you’re really- making me uncomfortable. I’m worried you’re going to-” Wait, why was he telling them? AUGH!! Could it be he already considered Suko… a friend?! Ugh, this was just sad!
Worried that Suko would notice his panicked expression, he immediately changed the subject, “Maybe we should head to the cafeteria, to-eat something? I’m really hungry,” he lied unconvincingly. He’d be a lot less likely to get murdered in- a more wide-open environment, right? Because there’d be more places to run and hide if need be… he might find something to defend himself…
Wow, this was a mess... not like he could trust this person, anyway... He sighed.

Narrator
Amano Tetsuo and Niwa Atsushi arrived at the cafeteria. The air was gloomy and dim. Not a single plate of food was prepared for them- It had a thin feel to it, as if all the life and energy had been sucked out by a demon.
Niwa inaudibly gulped.
Behind them, Hisoka strode in, face set in a firm line. He took a place at the end of the room, soon followed by a girl with two braids and another girl- who neither Hisoka nor the braided girl seemed to like very much.
The room got even more stifling.
"Everyone!" Amano announced. "We must now prepare food for our discussion! It will create a more ambivalent atmosphere-" Amano paused, his face falling. Even the ever-cheerful Amano could fall prey to this dimness?
"Sounds good," Chika murmured quietly. She was watching everyone carefully. "Who'll head to the kitchens though, to prepare it? It's not like we can really trust each other."
Amano's eyes widened. "O-Oh! Of course- I'll organize the chefs. The most trustworthy people I can think of."
"Which of course, includes you," Hisoka murmured. Niwa looked slightly uncomfortable, but also as if he agreed with the sullen Yamanaku.
"Yes! I shall be among them-" Amano studied the people. "As shall be Megami, Suzume, Chika, Nagisa, and er-" He studied the people. "-Hisoka! Sound fair?"
Chika's eyebrows shot up. "Fair enough," she said.
Suko Nobu
Suko giggled. Aww, silly bean! He's so cute and fluffy! I can't believe he thinks- Suko shook their head with a chuckle. "Okay! You ready to play, then? I promise I won't joke about felonies, if you let me cheat at Snakes 'N Ladders."
They gave Femi a hopeful look. "I promise I'll play fair on our second round too! How about it?"
Nagisa Aoki's POV

Suzume Fujimori's POV
Okay, not as much enthusiasm as she would've liked. However, edible was probably the least that could be asked for in a situation like this.
She wondered how a certain person, in this room, had managed to be so enthusiastic... what did she have to be enthusiastic about? The situation needed to be assessed realistically.

Third Person POV
Amano visibly perked up as he hurried after him. Chika gave a deep sigh and then followed them. Only Hisoka remained unwilling, sitting at the table with crossed arms. He glared at the rest of them, daring them to challenge him.
Inside the kitchen, Amano was already barking orders. "You! On stove duty! You bring the food out! You cut it! Prepare at least 2 dishes individually! Ensure there is enough food! If it isn't quality, it's yours!"
Chika bemoaned the situation, muttering something to Nagisa under her breath. Amano shot her a glare which she readily returned. "Give yourselves 45 minutes to finish! Once we're done, we will start serving!"
Suko Nobu
Suko perked up. Finally! Someone finally understood the deadly game known as Snakes N' Ladders! No underestimation here!
They grinned, looping their arm through Femi's. "Come on! We gotta get the game outta my bag first! Then I'll tell you allllll about it!"
Narrator
The students poured out through the kitchen, holding their individual plates. Some held two. Others, such as Amano, proudly wielded three plates. Amano set them down at a table on the other side of the room, and gestured to Niwa and Nagisa. Niwa lazily slouched over, plopping down in the chair and examining the three dishes.
Eggs.
Pancakes.
And some horrid concoction of Amano's hand.
Niwa stared at it, and carefully inched it away from himself.
Chika walked through the kitchen, muttering something to Hisoka. The red-haired teenager appeared to be ignoring her, but as she spoke, his gaze flitted across the cafeteria and landed on Amano. Amano blinked at Hisoka, apparently seeing his gaze. Hisoka's eyes narrowed and he looked away.
I was the last one to leave the kitchen, and someone had shut the door on me. Drawing back, I took a deel breath and kicked the door open. "FBI OPEN UP!" I ran in with three plates balanced on each of my outstretched arms, with one on my head. I quickly charged to Buraddo's table and threw the plates down. "Eat up bitches!"
