She walked sadly into the study.

"Alexander. You...you haven't happened to see my book, have you? It's missing."

She said in a dull, quiet voice.

Genya shook her head.

"Of course you haven't. Silly me. Never mind."

She trudged away.

Not answering, his face very stiff, he began sorting the books. His hand trailed to his pocket, but he gave his head a brisk shake and moved a red one onto the shelf.

She handed him a bag.

Genya sighed and buried her face in a pillow.

"Leave me, so I can go and die now.

The book was my world.

Now there's no point in living anymore."

The Lady has fallen ill, and won't be needing you to come and tidy up near her."

The maid pursed her lips.

"She's fallen gravely ill.

But I presume that's good news for you, judging by your strange hatred of her."

The head maid shooed him away.

"Now go.

Get out of my sight."

He gave a slight nod, but his eyes had taken on a hazy appearance. Like he wasn't hearing a word she said. Mutely, he took his leave, making his way to the kitchen.
