The words seemed to melt the ice covering her feet. Dropping
Koneko, she scrambled back into a wall. She fell against it,
pulling her knees up to her chest and tucking her head between
them.
"Please don't kill me,"
she whispered, her voice shaking.
"I don't want to d-die here. Please. . . please. . ."
She trembled there, on the ground, a slight bit of blood trickling
from her bare foot where she stepped on the shattered glass. Koneko
scooted behind one of the garbage cans, not making a sound.
"Woah, woah!" The man raised his hands in the air with surrender.
He tilted his head to the side a little, looking remorseful.
"Sorry... little girl. I didn't mean to scare you." He extended an
arm, hesitated- and then gently patted her shoulder. "I'm a hero,
don't worry. We're... just looking for some villains."
He cast a glance behind him at his companion.
"We won't hurt you. I promise."
His turned to look back at her, and his eyes caught on her pale
foot. They widened, then narrowed exponentially.
"You're hurt."

He cast another worried glance at his companion, but gave her a
soft smile. "Nice to meet you, Neko. I'm Tashi." He accepted her
hand and shook it firmly. "My hero name is Quick Silver. My friend
here-" He gestured to the person behind him- "-is Zuzu."

Tashi blinked. "Uh... what?" He shifted his weight a little
awkwardly. "Is something wrong...?" He frowned at her expression.
His eyes widened. "You're-"

Neko's eyes filled with tears as she gripped his wrist with an
iron-hard hand. She whipped her other hand from behind her back,
the starlight forming into a huge sheet, encasing both heroes in
something stronger than metal up to their necks.
"I'm s-so sorry,"
She choked out, letting go of Tashi's hand. She ran to grab Koneko,
and turned to face Tashi.
His hand jerked through the bars and landed back by his side. He
slumped against Zuzu. "The villains," he said quietly. "The ones...
we were fighting."

Neko dropped to her knees, clutching her head. A raw throated howl
escaped her lips, as she was unable to hold it back. It was as if
liquid fire was coursing through her body. The starlight exploded
in a mass of gleaming shards, a slow motion action in which Neko
looked up, surprise filling her expression. Stretching out her
hands and pulling them backwards all of the shards came strait for
her. She closed her eyes as the glittering pieces of starlight
impaled her.
