Third Person POV

"And you're avoiding the question." Her smile took on a knife-sharp edge. "Tell me. Question for question. Quid pro quo, if you will." There was an odd intensity in her eyes now as she leaned forward. She must be about to fall off the edge.

Hollow pursed her lips.

"Why should you know?"

She said, her voice muffled.

Her eyes glinted behind her mask.

It's the mask Tengan.

The mask.

Can't you see?

Can't you-

QUIET!

Hollow smiled.

Tengan

Villains are so selfish, her mind whispered. So self-centered. They can't even explain their own thoughts, they're so absorbed into themselves. They're filthy stinking animals.

"You're pathetic," she breathed. "You know that?"

"..."

Hollow didn't respond.

"I-"

She sighed.

No words.

"I guess you're right."

Third Person POV

A rustling outside the room.

"Tengan you stupid... doing there... Shut up..." The locks on the door spun and the stoppers retracted back inside.

Tengan whipped to Hollow.

"Get out."

Her voice was ice-cold. Then, a little flicker started in it. A tiny, miniscule flame.

"Come back tomorrow."

Hollow was silent as a mouse.

She nodded quickly, and slipped out of the window.

A muted thud, as she landed on the floor, follow by a curse.

Then silence.

Yelling sounded from inside the room.

Tengan's cold replies.

Then, nothing.

It was the next day.

The sky was still dark, there was little sign of life.

Hollow looked up at the familiar window ledge.

She'd been sitting, on the floor, for a while now, pondering.

Her pale fingers twisted nervously, her palms pink.

Her brown eyes looked dull.

Should I go in there?

"..."

Hollow grunted angrily.

She would attempt to help Tengan get out.

That was the right think to do.

If Tengan didn't comply, then Hollow would be gone.

She doesn't like to linger.

Tap..tap...tap, tap.

At the window.

Third Person POV

There was no response. Only the sound of knuckles against a reinforced glass pane.

Finally, inside, two amber eyes opened. Slitted pupils darted back and forth. Her eyes closed. Her tongue passed over her dry, cracked lips, and the exertion gave them a fresh break.

Blood running down her chin, Tengan stood up and walked over to the window. Behind her was the clanking of a chain.

She stopped in front of Hollow and gazed up at her.

Tashi Yasu

Tashi walked down the road, his hands shoved in his pockets, shoulders slumped. Beside him, the Monster walked, her face hooded, red hair cascading down her shoulders. They came to a stop at a crosswalk, waiting until the pedestrian sign showed, then continued across.

It's unlike you to be so quiet, she commented as they turned a corner. Guilty conscience?

Tashi didn't respond to her. He'd woken up too early this morning. The coffee this morning had burned his hand and when he'd dropped it, drenched his clothes. Dripping in brown stuff, he hadn't liked to hear that he needed to walk his little sister to school. Particularly when today was one of the most important days at his new hero school. One he'd barely gotten into, much less had respect at.

Looking back on it now, Quick Silver recognized the tone of his words. Excuses after excuses. Was that was she deserved? Was that what he should be making now in hindsight?

No more than you, he sniped back, not in the mood for her teasing. You've gotten into three fights this week, Tengan. What the hell?

Past Tashi had angled his head back to look at her. He saw the slight stiffening in her shoulders and the way she'd bit her lip. As if she were holding something back.

Thanks for walking me to school. They both came to a stop in front of the place. It was hardly three blocks away from their house. Tashi had highly doubted the villain attacks his mother had been fretting about even mattered. Tengan was a tall girl, strong and her bright red hair sang of a powerful quirk. 'Preciate it.

Whatever, was his reply. Just don't expect me to bail you out of juvie.

As he walked away, he could feel her amber gaze on his back. Even now, over 7 years in the future, it gave him chills. But his past self gave a snort, rolled his shoulders back, and stalked off.

Hollow returned the stare.

Her hazel eyes were full of surprising intensity.

There was a hint of anger...annoyance in there?

The way her hands were trembling...

Was she nervous?

Her eyes had a faraway look.

There was something in her head.

A thought.

A troubling one.

Third Person POV

Tengan tipped her head to the side. Then gave a brief nod. Come in, she seemed to say. She turned around and walked back towards her bed, her straightcoated arms clenched to her chest, ready to lash out at a moment's notice.

Tashi Yasu

Your sister's creepy.

Why, whatever gave you that idea? Now, so many years in the future, Quick Silver could barely recognize the face. Perhaps someone who'd been a friend. No, more likely an acquaintance. Someone who's opinion mattered to you, but one who you wouldn't remember in the details of the worst day of your life.

Except for the role they played in bringing it.

His past-self bit his tongue, gripping his tray tighter to his chest. Lunch period had arrived. As aspected, he'd been late. Too late to participate in the activity he still couldn't quite remember the identity of.

Is she?

Well yeah. I don't think I've ever seen her looking at another person besides you. Just that awful deadened stare. A fake shudder. Past-Tashi clenched his teeth together and continued walking to his seat.

Maybe she doesn't want to look at you, was his reply. You don't have the prettiest face.

A mock gasp. They both smiled at each other. Quick Silver hated Tashi for that.

Mean, dude! You didn't need to go that far.

Past Tashi scoffed.

You deserved it.

And why's that?

Everything went blank. How did he reply to that? How was he supposed to distance himself if-

Tashi Yasu?

Homeroom teacher Katsumi-san was behind him. Yes sir?

The next few words hit his ear with the delicacy of a bowling ball.

It's Tengan. Your sister.

Hollow hopped in, without a sound.

Eyes scanned her surroundings briefly, then flickered up to meet Tengan's gaze.

Not a word was said by Hollow.

Her mask was stained red by a recent killing.

It'll never wash off.

She thought.

At last, her lips opened.

Her voice was quiet.

"..."

Too quiet to hear.

Third Person POV

Tengan gently patted the spot on the bed next to her. Her cheeks were rosy for once, but her amber eyes were as cold as the metallic room.

"Who did you kill?" Her raspy voice peculated in wisps, slithering into Hollow's ear.

Tashi Yasu

Past that, it was all just blurs.

Screaming.

Crying.

A horrible word.

Quirkless.

When they'd gotten home, she hadn't let him say anything. Not that he would've. She just tore herself from his side and breezed upstairs, chin lifted, amber eyes as cold as ever. He'd watched her go.

And what he did next would haunt him forever.

He did nothing.

He walked to his room. Sat down on his bed.

And like the horrible person he was, he pulled out his phone to text someone. Who it was didn't matter. All that mattered was that upstairs he could hear screaming and he didn't care.

He slept like a baby that night.

And he would continue, even as the bruises began accumulating on his sister's pale, smaller body.

Hollow sat by her without a word.

"..."

"..a random civilian...

He had it coming."

Was all she said.

"...would you like to get out of here?

....There- I-"

She paused.

"I want to show-

..something."

"Civilian... eh?" There was a glitter in her eyes now. They could hardly be called dead now. No, they were furious.

But she turned to Hollow, cocking her head to the side. "You already know my requirements. You know what I wait for. And I still believe it's coming."

Tashi Yasu

That wasn't the ending. No, those happy, peaceful rests as the girl above him battled terrors of the night prayed for him to come up and be her hero. They were just... little smidgens. The little nudges up the scale to the day where it would finally tip.

And he'd find the oxygen stolen from his lungs.

Where are you going?

Tengan paused at the door.

School. She avoided his gaze. She did that every day now. He found himself irritated by it.

It's Saturday, moron. He watched as her hand tugged on her sleeve, clearly uncomfortable. Why do you want to go? Beat up some other kid?

Would you beat them up for me?

Heroes don't attack children.

A long pause.

Heroes... Do you think you're one?

What else would I be?

I'll let you know, she replied. Such a Tengan thing to say. He bit the inside of his cheek, shuffling his feet, awkward for the first time.

She turned around and left the house.

He watched her go.

That day, in her fights, not a single person besides herself received a bruise.

"....would I call them a civilian though?

...no...I wouldn't."

Hollow frowned.

"They weren't innocent..."

She turned to face Tengan.

"Understood."

She said, not paying attention.

Her hands fidgeted.

Third Person POV

Tengan didn't reply. Her eyes glowed faintly as they plunged into the depths of the darkness and coldness of the stone room. As she spoke, her hand ran through her hair.

"Does punishment require innocence? Or can it be doled out by the equally guilty?" She turned to Hollow, hand lazily cupping her chin. "I'm curious. What do you think?"

Tashi Yasu

Until that horrible, horrible day...

Splashes of blood and sludge.

Screaming women and children.

An explosion that still ricocheted around his skull, chafing the soft insides.

Until he'd woken up and he'd met her amber eyes

And she was staring right back at him.

And then the whiteness of a pillow, smashed over his face and the amber eyes still staring at him and that shock of red hair and then-

Nothing.

They came in.

He didn't die.

But as he watched her go, hands locked behind her back like a prisoner off to the nooses, as she stared right back at him, eyes empty and hollow-

He'd known that he deserved to.

An eye for an eye.

A tooth for a tooth.

Killer for killer.

They charged her with murder.

A murder that the systems themselves should've taken part in.

Tashi awoke.

"..."

Hollow wasn't sure how to respond.

and i'm not either it's 11pm help

"I-"

She stopped abruptly.

Her eyes flickered to a battered satchel she was holding.

An object glinted in it slightly.

She winced.

"You don't care," Tengan replied. Her gaze took in Hollow, a faint smirk settling on her lips. "You couldn't care less, so long as you feel better."

She gave a confident nod.

"I understand that feeling. I believe the guilty deserve to be punished. Rights must be cleansed by any wishing to do so."

"..."

Hollow thought about that for a moment.

"Who would come under the 'guilty' category?"

She asked, immersed in her thoughts.

"What punishments would suit them?

Death?

Or is that not enough.

Or too much."
