"That-that's never happened before. It....confirms every thing..." He whispered.
The symbols on his cheeks glowed a soft pink, shaping into love hearts before disappearing quickly.
He blushed, looking away, hoping Adrik didn't see them.

"Everything is going to be okay."
She paused.
Her hands parted.
She lifted her head and glanced around the room. On the end of her bed, a puppet leaned against the frame. The puppet's grotesque, twisted face was patchworked in spots, but in a very creepy way, it was almost kind of cute, with red animal ears and large button eyes.
When it spoke, it's voice came out squeaky and low at the same time. "You seem jumpy today, Isla! Are you scared of something?" It smiled.
The girl ignored it. "Who's in here?"
A tuft of black hair popped out of the shadows. Isla stiffened, her hand raising-
But it was only a little boy.
"You're Isla Greer, aren't you?"
Her guard instantly went up again.
He giggled. "No need to be unfriendly! I'm just asking a simple question!"
She lowered her palm, but she was starting to glare at him. "Who are you supposed to be?" she demanded. "I didn't see you-" she checked herself. "I haven't seen you here before."
"I just enrolled." He skipped up to the bed, and before she could protest, he sat directly on the puppet. Squawks of indignation rose from the bed, but the boy merely hummed and rocked back and forth. "This is a 'real nice room you got here! 'Bed's soft!" The puppet popped out underneath the sadistic child and gasped for air, its life apparently flashing before its eyes.
Isla smirked. Then it vanished. "The he-" she checked herself again. "What're you doing in my room?" she asked instead.
"Spying!"
Her eyebrow twitched. "Try again."
"Stealing your puppet!"
"Not stealing if I don't want it."
The puppet glared at her.
"Awww, well, I'm plumb outta ideas! So I guess you'll kick me out then?" He pouted. "Kinda mean, y'know. To kick out one of your classmates."
"I don't care," was her automatic answer. "Get out, or I'm calling in security."
He lifted his hands in surrender. "Yeesh, yeesh, okay! I'm leaving!" He skittered off to the door. Then he paused in front of it. "Any tips you've got for the newbie?"
"Out."
He smiled and closed the door behind him.
Isla sighed. "How'd he get in here anyway?" She eyed the puppet. "I don't suppose you-"
"He sat on me," the puppet grumped. "My delicate stitching cannot take this abuse."
She coughed to disguise her laughter. "Well, maybe it has something to do with his magic. Something had to get a brat like that here-" she eyed the door, even though he was of course, gone. "Hmph. Well, in any case, we'd better get some damage control done. I don't want that creature doing any shows of power here. Would mess the whole thing I've got going up."
The puppet hopped on her shoulder. "Revenge?"
She grinned. "Something like that."
The puppet grinned.
She opened the door and stepped out.
Adrik tilted his head to the side. "Confirms what?" he asked.
"And...I want you to accept it straight away, don't doubt it...because it's true. I swear. With all my...heart."
He took a deep breath, his golden eyes brimming with scared tears.
"Adrik...I....li-"
The door fell open.
A small boy poked his head into the decimated room. "Oh wow, what happened here?" He gave a few obvious sniffs. "Did like, a bomb go off or something? Is anyone dead?"
Adrik coughed. Coughed again.
Surprisingly only a few doors down, Isla yelped and stumbled backwards.
She tapped her foot against the floor angrily. "Oh, I don't know you, do I? You must just be that insignificant. I don't suppose that makes a difference. Anyway, go on, get on your knees and apologize. You have two seconds."
She glared intensely at this- this- person, notebook at the ready should she try anything.

Isla's eyes burned with rage, but she smiled still, even though it didn't seem very genuine. "A fight, huh?" Her sclera began to melt into black. "Well, if you're looking to be beaten into the ground, then I suppose I could extend a little effort."
"You... lick frogs?" Adrik frowned. "I mean, I guess that that's a passtime... And I'm not judging or anything."
"A little effort, huh? You're not gonna give me your best? Then that'll be the last mistake you ever make." She contemplated her next move. Will the sentence about the puppet work? she wondered. Should I wait for her to come to me this time?
