In her room.

Mirej looked at the ground, her eyes filled with tears.

Her face, devoid of emotion, sagged.

She looked up, and saw the figure of the person she hated most.

Mirej flinched.

The figure leaned into view.

Tall, dark-skinned, short black hair, and an arrogant smile on his face.

"Mirej."

He said quietly.

The voice filled her with anger.

"Go away Ijota."

Lin snapped.

The figure smiled.

"Don't be like that.

Come on.

We were paired for a reason.

It was-"

"Don't you dare say destiny."

Mirej snapped angrily.

Ijota took a step back.

He held out his hand.

"Come on Mirej.

Come back to Naryusk'aji with me.

Please."

Mirej stood up.

"No!"

Ijota snarled.

"Your parents demand it."

"I don't care about my parents!

I don't care about this stupid Suli tradition!

I never wanted to get married.

I hate them for this stupid arranged marriage!"

Ijota seized her by her hands.

"You leave me no choice, Mirej."

His voice was thick with anger.

Mirej screamed.

"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!"

The boy gritted his teeth.

"Mirej. Please. I love you."

Mirej hesitated.

"I don't."

She whispered quietly.

"What.

You...

you...

YOU-"

Ijota let out a roar, brandishing a long, slender knife.

"You are the most-"

He stopped short.

His knife clanged to the floor.

Ijota looked shakily down.

At the silver knife sticking out of his chest.

"you...why?"

He whispered.

Blood tricked down his lips.

His eyes rolled back in his sockets, as his body swayed to the ground.

"I hate you."

Mirej whispered.

"But my parents didn't listen.

They were so convinced that Ijota here was the perfect Suli man for me to marry.

If they'd listened to me...this would never have happened.

Was taught nothing more than to follow orders.

Then was sent to a random family.

Forces into a marriage.

I've never felt anything.

She stared at him.

"The second one is impossible."

Miren paused for a moment.

She lay on her bed, thinking.

"Have you ever wondered about ending it all?

No worries.

No stress.

No deadlines."

She sighed peacefully.

"That would be paradise."

He was watching her. There was an odd look in his eyes. "I have," he said politely. "Has anyone not considered such a thing before? But it goes against logic. Our own personal instincts, our reason to exist- do not coincide with such a decision. So I have disproved it within my mind. And would prefer not to follow through. Y'know."
