I noticed this a few days ago, and I just checked it, it still happens.

While I am on my phone the image for the Dark Gem is kind of broken.

Here is all the info I have:
- I am using a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)
- I used the app "Samsung Internet"
- It happens on both settings of my Internet app to show "Mobile Version" and "Desktop Version" of the page
- It happens on both PH Experimental mobile setting and without the experimental setting

I saw it happen on the following pages:
- Item Bag page
- the "Mysterious Kalos" Gem Collector page (Yveltal trade)
- When giving a Dark Gem to a Pokemon
- on the Pokemons Page, that is holding the Gem
- at the Gem Collector buying a regular egg (e.g. Absol)
- at the Gem Exchange

So, basically everywhere where the image is used. I can't really test it on other mobile browsers, as Chrome doesn't work at all right now on my phone. Maybe someone else can check their browsers

What changes have you made to the display-settings? This looks like a version of dark mode?

Ah yes, forgot to check that one. Yes, it's the Dark Mode from Samsung Internet. I just checked it, on Light mode the Sprite is normal.

Can the app alter images so they are more visible in their dark mode?

I don't think it can. It's a third-party dark mode and not every dark mode works the same way.
[Also, I'm not sure this counts as a PH-bug, as it's caused by an outside change? I'll have to check with Riako before potentially moving it to 'Confirmed']

I did a quick check and based on this source, the night / dark mode does affect images.
This isn't a PH bug, that's for sure :)

Edit:
The source isn't from the official website, but it was linked from developer.samsung.com, so I'm going to trust the information on that page is correct, because I found other sources where it said it doesn't affect images.

The problem is the Dark Gem not reacting to the Dark Mode as a normal image would.
Dark Mode makes everything less bright [as you can see on the page you linked], but the Dark Gem acts as if Mirej chose "inverted colours".

Dark mode doesn't just make everything darker, it has to make things that were dark bright so that the user can see it, how it does this is up to the developer of the app.
I believe since the dark gem image is fairly dark, the app decided to invert it.

It doesn't make the dark background any brighter on the example they showed on the website you linked, I don't see why it would for that one gem.

The first source was from when dark mode was first launched.

From the second source (the updated one):

QuoteSince most images remain unchanged in dark mode, modifying the text could lead to visibility issues

Notice the most there.

QuoteA heuristic based image classification has been implemented to apply filters to certain images

So this means the app is in fact classifying the "dark gem" image as an image that needs to be filtered, in this case inverted.

Well, good to know that it's not PH's problem :D I didn't even know that some dark modes do that

Is that case, I'll be moving this to "solved", as it's not something caused by something on PH.
