"I was simply being couretous," Mr. called out lazily. "But, now that it seems you are fine, I suppose I'll open the elevator." With a dramatic sigh, there was a loud click, a ding, and the elevator opened wide, the doors sliding open.

"Thank you for your assistance," he said, his voice as close to non-sarcasm as he could make it. Grabbing 13's hand, he darted out into the hall, glancing both ways as he spotted a vent cover just to the left. Hurrying to it, he began to work on it, finding it surprisingly easy to remove with just his fingernails.

13 watched him work quietly, apearing oddly calm. It was more of a dazed calm, as if she wasn't really focused. But, when Colt managed to remove the vent cover, she whispered, "There aren't any guards, you should hurry!"

"Don't I know it. I'l going to go first, you'll follow close behind. Pull the cover shut after you. 'K?" he said, beginning to move into the rectangular opening.

13 nodded. "Okay." She waited until Colt had completley entered the vent before pulling herself in as well as fitting the vent cover. Just as she finished, a guard ran down the hall. She held her breath, staying still until he was gone. When he had completley left, she gave Colt and odd look. "Why do you know so much about hiding in vents?"

He gave a soft smile, though he knew she couldn't see it. Pulling out his old flashlight, he whispered, "These crazies forced my entire school into a Hunger Games sorta thing, if you've ever read that. Essentially, they had one student trying to kill all the others. The vents were the safest way to get around."

"I haven't, they never let us read," 13 said quietly. Still, she looked past him into the darkness before speaking again. "Mr.? Where do we go now?" "That's easy," he said camly, "All you need to is," he rattled off a list of directions that seemed to go on forever, though it only took him a minute. "You''ll end up on the second floor, and the elevator will take you from there."


Nadia, meanwhile, had already figured out where Oak Apartments was, pulling out of the driveway and into the street. It didn't take her long, though longer then it had Dan and Colt, to find the building. She was a little concerned as to how to get in, then something clicked. This wasn't an apartment complex, obviously. This was some kind of "Skeleton" to allow them to hide in plain site. So, she just had to..." Parking in an alley across the street, she carefully made her way over, skirting around the edge of the building until she found what she was looking for- a fire escape.

Colt frowned. "Not quite where we need to go. Not quite sure I'll tell you where we are headed, but the second floor certainly isn't it, and we just came from the elevator."

"You're ruining my fun, I wanted to mess with you," Mr. said in a pouty voice. "Alright, fine. You want to head to the first floor to meet that other boy, I suppose? Follow the elevator path."

If Colt could have crossed his arms, he would have. That last thing he wanted to do was trust this guy, but it seemed like the only choice still. "Are you trying to tell me that we need to go back into the elevator?"

Mr. sighed audibly. "No. All you need to do is follow the path of the vents, which follows the elevator. There's a shortcut that can get you to where you need to go. Happy?"

The boy had to restrain himself from making any snippy retorts. Shaking his head and making a dismissive waving motions with his hand, he continued to move forwards, doing as the man had said.

13 followed after Colt quietly, not saying a word. She was small enough that she had little trouble navigating the vents, and was able to keep up easily. After a while of silence, Mr. spoke again, making 13 jump a little. If she hadn't been watching herself, she might have hit her head against the low metal ceiling of the vent. "Allright dearies, time to take a sharp left now, mkay?"


Nadia clambered up the fireescape, wincing at the pain in her side. It wasn't too bad, though. She could make it. She managed to get all the way up, opening up the window into what apeared to be a regular apartment. But when she opened the door a crack, she knew that this was most defiently not an apartment complex. There was someone walking down the hall, who spotted the door. Nadia panicked, and when he got close enough, grabbed the soldier by the collar, yanking him into the room and slamming his head against the wall, knocking him out. Taking a minute to recover, she noticed a phone in the guard's back pocket. She immieadiently grabbed it. Thankfully, it didn't have a password on it, so she opened it up and began scrolling through, trying to find something. A notification popped up on a app called "Work Emails,"and she opened it up. Her eyes widened. "That's not good."

Though bristling at the man's choice of words, Colt did so; it was a bit of a tight fit to shift his body into the new passage, but he managed it, ducking his head momentarily to glance back at thirteen. He'd had to put the flashlight in between his teeth in order to hold it while crawling forwards, but, taking it out and pausing, he called quietly, "Doing okay?"

Thirteen nodded. "I'm okay," she said quietly. She followed Colt down the new path, though it seemed to go on for awhile. Eventually, however, there was light coming from another enterance, this one more brightly lit then the others. Mr. spoke again, his voice echoing through the vent. "That's the first floor enterance, take it or leave it."

Taking the flashlight from his mouth, switching it off, and slipping it into his front pocket, he said, "We'll take it, Mr. Gameshow Host. C'mon, kid." Speeding up, he reached the vent cover and looked out, scanning the new location.

"Ah, ah, ah, it's Mr., remember?" He went silent. There didn't seem to be very many guards around, a couple walking around here and there, patrolling. 13 caught up, crouching behind him. "What do you see?" she whispered.

The blond didn't respond, just pushed out the cover and lowered it as quietly as he could to the ground. Slipping out somewhat awkwardly, he lept to his feet and spun around to help Tina out, reaching out a hand.
