The knights seemed like statues, and almost all of them ignored him. But one moved his head to say, "King Grym commands it."

Avari, Olya, Ephina, Tazu-
Ephina and Tazu watched the fox (Though Tazu was only listening in) with a laugh. It was a hilarious scene, but it was the last time either of them would laugh for a while...

(Timeskip)
Over the next few weeks, things started to change in Nyxbrim, for the worse or for the better, it was up to you. The first big change was a curfew that was installed, meaning that there was less time in the day for shops to be open since it was the law that all stores be closed an hour before the bells tolled to signal the closing of the gates. This meant that the already small number of customers dwindled down to almost nothing.

A few weeks after that, there was a ban insued on entering the forest. That meant that Avari was allowed nowhere near it, there were even more silent faced guards, and Tazu could not go home. That meant that he had to sleep on a old cot in Ephina's back room. Due to habits from his life in the forest, Tazu usually slept during the day, and sat in the back room at night. So, he was fast asleep when one day, Ephina decided to take stock of her herbs. Keeping up a false sense of cheerfulness, she had declared that there was bound to be customers soon, and they might as well keep track of which herbs needed replenshing. During the process, Ephina paused. "Olya? Did you take any of the herbs? If you needed them, you could've asked."

Olya was out in the front room watering some plants when Ephina spoke. Olya tipped the can back before looking up in Ephina's direction and shaking her head "No, I don't think so. Are we low on something? I can go out real quick to get some... however I do that."
Olya had always guessed that for the herbs that didn't grow in the shop Ephina had went into the forest herself to gather some, but now with the new restrictions that wouldn't be possible. This however was probably not relevant.
As for the changes that have been over these last few weeks, Olya despised them. This was not the king that she had known, but rather what felt more like an invasion. She was sure that this was only the tip of the iceberg, though she never showed her worries in her cheery demeanor. Trying to keep the mood from sinking into a murky gloom was all that she could do to rub off that terrible sense of foreboding which lived in her.

Watching out her window, Avari sighed, glaring at a pair of guards who had their backs turned. "No deer for a while, Gerrin. That's just disgusting, isn't it? We have to eat the fatty beef these fools raise up i their homes. It's revolting!" Turning away from the window, she glanced at her bow and quiver. How easy it would be to simply... Dispose of the guards who blocked her from hunting the forest. Avari reached for the bow, then hesitated. My arrows are unique to me. They'd track me down in a heartbeat. Avari pulled her hand back from the wall and sat down on her cot with a huff.

Ephina sighed, and looked at her for a minute before responding. "It's the strangest thing, there's herbs missing, but I just restocked them yesterday. I wouldn't even have checked, but I happen to notice that the ones that are gone are completley missing, not a leaf left." Movnig into the front room with a carton full of jars, she picked up three jars that simply held damp soil. "See? Not even the roots." Holding a jar in one hand, she glanced at it with a slight frown. "The odd thing is that they aren't medical herbs, so it wasn't some child who was too poor to afford a cure for a sick parent." She set the jar back down. "I mostly keep them around for preservation purposes, but I have no idea why someone would want them." She tapped her chin. "I wonder if we should ask Avari..I mean, she isn't that far away, and she has more experience in the forest so she might know why someone would want them."

"Tazu maybe?" Olya said frowning. It was one thing for non-medicinal herbs to disappear the day after they've been restocked, but completely another when the entire thing is gone. Usually you'd just pick a plant right? Plus removing roots and all from the soil can be quite messy and time taking if you aren't experienced.
Or maybe that's just Olya overthinking and connecting dots that don't exist. She shrugs "That's really odd. Maybe we should ask Avari? I can go fetch if you'd like."

Ephina shook her head. "I know my husband-" she paused, with a pained look in her eyes, and continued. "I've known Tazu for awhile, and while he was a knight, he never showed any interest in that sort of thing. He might have learned things while he lived in the forest, but why would he take them? He never offers to help with the plants, and I would've seen the missing plants since I go in there often. Really, it's a miracle that he sleeps through all my constant trips bak there." She nodded. "She might be able to help."

"Well, it doesn't hurt to ask. We can wait til he's actually awake though heh." Olya said as she walked to the counter to set down her watering can. "I won't take long!"
Olya turned and dashed out the door and down the street in Avari's direction. Olya had visited before with directions from Ephina (maybe to deliver some seasoning for her venison or something, idk) so she new her way.

Avari looked up, recognising the sound of approaching footsteps. Walking over to the window, she looked out. After a moment, Olya came into view. "Oh, heya Olya. How can I help you?" She smiled, Gerrin jumping up into the window beside her.

Olya stopped under Avari’s window and smiled back.
“Oh, well Ephenia sent me over to get your opinion.. you see there were a few plants restocked yesterday that have just gone... poof! Not even the roots left in their pots. Maybe you’d have an idea, being a forest-y person and all, as to why?” She paused for a moment before continuing, “you want to head back to the shop and discuss it there? Maybe you’ll see something we missed.”

Avari looked thoughtful. "Missing plants, huh? Sure, I'll come at take a look." She smiled, then started towards the outside, snagging her bow and quiver on her way out. Gerrin hopped alongside her, brushing against Olya's legs as he went by.

At the stables, Ichon was acting rather-well, odd. He was walking listlessly around the barn, and when one of the hands dropped a curry brush, instead of chewing them out, he simply..ignored it. Serena pointed this out. "Looks like Ichon caught whatever's been going around. Today, when some officials came to get their horses, they acted just like that. All.." Serena gestured to the Head of Stables, who was walking over and over again into a pole. "Weird."


Avari-
Ephina was waiting at the door, and when she spotted the ranger, gave a small wave before glancing up and down the street, and ducking back in. The look on her face suggested that it was a normal day, and she was perfectly happy, but up close, one could see the worry in her eyes that had been seen on so many others faces.

Avari waved, then stepped inside. "You look to worried for this to be a few succulents. What's missing?" She slowly looked around the building, checking for signs of forced entry of otherwise, rather than looking at the empty pots.
