The Ballad of the Brave

We gather here, this evening clear, to share our tales by night,
So I should hope that all these rhymes will be to your delight!
Now, if you all want poems and lines, or stories you do crave,
I shall tell you reading this the ballad of the brave!

Now reader, I should warn you, these aren’t for the faint of heart,
These hymns are full of sacrifice and bloodshed, for a start,
But also filled with victories, and battles squarely won,
So listen well, and we’ll be swell until the night is done!

The first tale will begin with legends from a town of old,
And heroes from the ancient village, valiant and bold!
But, they face an enemy that they had never seen,
I shall commence this tale, and hence, now let me set the scene...

Title: The Tale of Bronze and Bone, Part 1

The stories tell of Amarell, a noble seaside town.
Ruled by a king, with gold and gems, who wore a platinum crown,
But every now and then, the king would wander from his throne
To find a foe to fight, and thus, the king could hold his own.

His name was Bronze the Lycanroc, the King of Amarell,
His pelt was gray and bright, ( he was a day form, you could tell,)
His fangs were sharp as silver knives, and mighty were his paws,
And on his few days off, he would fight others with his claws!

The king would find an enemy who scared his people so,
And then, he’d gather knights and squires, and off the group would go!
To find the town’s attacker, and to make the foe his prey,
They’d slash and fight all through the night, till foe had passed away!

It happened that one day, a townsman came for Bronze’s aid
“A dragon!” He exclaimed, “And one with scales like shiny jade!”
I caught a glimpse of it, as it was entering its cave.”
So Bronze stood up, and called his knights, and told them to be brave.

“We’re off to fight a dragon!” Bronze declared across the room.
“The townsmen said that it was fierce, so it shall meet its doom!”
The squires all nodded nervously, the knights all drew their swords,
And to the enemy dragon all the soldiers rode towards.

The fearless lot slowed to a trot as they approached the cave,
And Bronze would make a speech, and flicked his tail in friendly wave,
“My noble knights!” He cried, “You must fight strong and battle hard,”
And whichever of you slay the beast is captain of the guard!”

“But sir, what do we know about this foe?” A voice declared.
And Bronze looked to his group of knights, to see which one had dared.
The smallest squire of all, he saw, a Rockruff known as Bone,
He raised his little head, and spoke, to make his angle known:

“Our only source of evidence comes from a townsman’s word.
He might have mis-seen, or maybe we might have mis-heard!
This foe we fight might be a friend,” Bone reasoned to the crowd,
Then nervously looked to the king, and anxiously, he bowed.

So now, although the king you know is valorous in a fight,
When others challenged his commands, although they might be right,
Bronze would scowl, he hated when his words were given doubt,
And so, as Bone bowed down, the kind exclaimed in sonorous shout:

“You question me, pup?” Bronze began to make a new decree.
“If you should think the foe is friend, then you should be the one to see!”
And so it was, that for the group of knights to figure out
Their enemy, young Bone was sent to be their little scout!

And here, dear reader, I must stop to take a little rest
I’ll be back in a bit, to tell you more about the quest.
Will Bone the squire complete his task, or will our hero fail?

Title: The Tale of Bronze and Bone, Part 2

I have returned again, my friends, to finish off our story.
Would the soldiers slay the beast, and then return in glory?
So Bone was sent to scout ahead to watch the dragon’s lair,
His fear was great, but he stepped in, and whispered out a prayer.

The rockruff squire’s breaths were small, and shaky were his paws.
His eyes adjusted to the dark, and Bone readied his claws,
But up ahead, there was a sight to see! With widened eyes,
Bone marvelled at the pokemon, who gave him a surprise!

It wasn’t monster fierce he saw, nor was it giant foe,
It didn’t have such pointy fangs, or hard scales in a row.
Instead, it was a colony of Axew that Bone found!
They talked and mined some shiny things, and passed them all around!

So Bone began to calm as Axew came and shook his hand.
“Welcome to our home, although it isn’t very grand.
We mine our gemstones in this hidden quarry here, to sell
And with the coins, we buy our meals, so we can all eat well”

“But recently,” He said, “Our precious gems aren’t selling out!
I think the town is tired of our wares!” He gave a pout.
We’re running low on food, you see, there isn’t much to eat.”
And Bone remarked. “Amazing you’ve accomplished this feat!”

“You all can work together well, to get each Axew food.
You all take care of everyone, to feed th’entire brood!
To think that one mistook you for a scaly, monstrous beast.
Please come with me, I’ll talk to Bronze, and get you all a feast!”

The rockruff scout helped clear the cavern of the Axew clutch,
And lead them all to Bronze and all the knights and squires and such.
Then Bone explained, “You see, the dragon wasn’t what you thought!
Imagine all the damage caused if you had gone and fought!”

So Bronze looked at the Axews, and looked them in the eyes,
And then the King faced Bone again and said, “You are quite wise!
And I was wrong to try and charge ahead, when all we had,
Were rumours from the townsmen!” And Bone was made quite glad.

Bone let the Axews tell the king about their cavern nest,
And Bronze, surprised, then turned to Bone: “I’ve never guessed!
To see a noble band that starves, that surely isn’t right!
When we get back, I’ll make them squires, and you, I’ll make a knight!”

The Axews nodded gratefully; they had some proper work!
The band marched back to Bronze’s castle, Bone suppressed a smirk,
And on that day, Bronze dipped his head, that held his platinum crown,
And bone was knighted by the king, and cheers spread through the town!

If you should visit Amarell today, then you would see
A different midday lycanroc would come to welcome thee,
Surrounded by his fraxure knights, and sitting on the throne
And so, the story ends right here, the tale of Bronze and Bone!
