Arlaekh smirked at the sarcasm, before replying to Mandalyn's question with dead seriousness, "When Callise took over the government, Fate made him give something back. He's certainly taken a toll from his wounds, even if he has all the power he needs. The healing, is where you come in." She started to pace, "I'm telling you, because I know you are going to refuse, this healing has benefits for you as well. I'm just not telling you them."

out with it then. Arlaekh sighed before breaking the news, "You and Callise are linked — which is why his injuries have been affecting you and taking away from your overall performance. If I were to kill you, I would indirectly kill him." She narrowed her eyes at Mandalyn, "However, don't expect to be protected from the whims of my colleagues. I told you before—they're curs. If you are killed by their hands, well I will probably kill them, but otherwise it would not affect me in the least." She left without another word. Then she turned around to call back, "If this is the last thing I tell you, I am the one behind the scarlet veil."

Arlaekh headed out from the cells before she remembered something. She went back to Mandalyn's cell, "From lunch." She poked a piece of bread through the bars. It was relatively substantial but cold and hard.
